Friday 22 September 2006

GOOD MORNING!

OK. Desperation time. Ten minutes to go before midnight, and Friday starts. I have a deadline of TOMORROW MORNING (already put back more than once!) for three documents I need to write.

So I'm starting Friday early! Hoping to have my To Do list complete by the time it's time to go to work!

pro's CI - 12:15am (SATURDAY) - oh no

Oh, what a mess... I've got customers trying to use the new, not-fully-functioning system. I just had to handle someone's purchase manually (at 12:10am). ::sob::

I think this is a PayPal issue - I think they changed something - because I had problems with my two most recent sales even before I made the change.

It's just so weird that my program handles the payment correctly when I feed it in as an array - same data that PayPal posts back to me. And yet when I receive it as POST data, I get an error. WHY?! It's got to be something on PayPal's end, and it has to be something that changed because it worked fine before.

I'm in hell.

Hell Can Wait

Go to bed, pro! (official ass-kicking version)}:)
Perhaps you might wish to consider the benefits of going to bed now, pro. (politically correct version)8)
What do you believe you most need right now, :? and what do you WANT to do about it? (PA current methodology version) :)

Hope your dreams are far more heavenly. Rest up and avoid another migraine, for "tomorrow is another day." Wow--the toughest thing for procrastinators to know is when it's actually BEST to put something off for another day! But in my book, sleep has a clear priority over hell. ;)

that's ironic, isn't it?

Too bad I didn't see your post last night, but I was too busy obsessing on my script problem. I finally got to sleep around 1am - crashed on the couch fully dressed, and slept like a log until 9am.

>Wow--the toughest thing for procrastinators to know is when it's actually BEST to put something off for another day!

Isn't that ironic? It's true, and I find it so strange. Procrastinators are time bingers who don't know when to put things off to another day (as well as when not to). Very strange!!

pro's CI - 11:55pm (late, late, late)

Seems I will never learn. Instead of using my good judgement and spending the evening relaxing and then getting to bed early, after returning from the meeting I thought I'd finish up the business conversion.

BIG MISTAKE. Naturally I encountered problems (inevitable) that I am too tired to fix, so I made a false start and everything is screwed up. Well, maybe not everything, but screwed up enough to be annoying. I have yet another programming problem that is quite mysterious, and I'm too tired to think clearly. I could spend 5 hours on it now and never find it. If I sleep, I may find it quickly in the morning (I hope).

Looks like I screwed up my weekend since I can't leave this half done. I really shouldn't have started it tonight. I knew that very well going into it, but I felt impatient so I did it anyway, and now I'm paying the price.

I want to do my bedtime routine instead of crashing on the couch as I feel like doing because then, at least, I'll have a better day tomorrow. If I crash on the couch, I'll ruin tomorrow, too.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~To Do~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

  • Bedtime Routine
    • Take last dose of pills.
    • Make up bed (convert futon from couch to bed).
    • Empty dish drain and wash any dirty dishes.
    • Take out contacts.
    • Brush teeth.
    • Take shower.
    • Put on jammies.

confession

I never did my bedtime routine. I crashed on the couch, fully clothed, at 1am.

And now I'm back at the script problem, before doing my morning routine. I'm just obsessed with this. I think I just found the problem, and I want to fix it.

Last CI for gettin it done

Well, I didn't get much done this afternoon either, Late afternoon DH called and asked if i was going to a housewarming party for one of our friends, which I thought was weeks off... So scrambled around getting kids fed, re-dressed and cleaned up, me primped etc. and we just got back.

Done
Went to a housewarming party W/DH and kids.
E-mailed Elaine same day i heard form her - good job me.
(of course it helped that i've been trying to contact her for a week or more, so naturally i responded quickly when I heard from her...)
kids PJ'd and off to bed
learned how to use colors on here. yea.

Still to do
evening routine-
snack, bath, teeth, etc.

Goodnight all.

pro's CI - 8:15pm

I'm back from my meeting, and I think I will make the business change live now. It's best to do it at a slow time like a Friday night. (It's slow here, too.)

The film crew is still taking over W12 St. They set up a snack table for the crew right in front of my building. The street is cordoned off and lit up - the actors must be there now.

the news outside

The TV film crew that took over West 12th Street today is packing up. It's for a new show called "Black Donnellys", which will take the place of ER on NBC in January, if anyone is interested ( ::YAWN:: ).

I went to pick up my mail, and I got a package from my sister, which was kind of odd since it's not any kind of special occasion and I haven't spoken to her recently. She - out of the blue - sent me some neato-keen collapsible silicon cooking utensils - some collapsible measuring cups and a collapsible sieve.

When I first moved back to New York and was freaking out at the tiny size of my apartment, I looked into silicon cookware because you can fold it up to store it, and I mentioned this to her. Then months later, she sends me these very unique things - like nothing I've seen in kitchen shops myself. She's so thoughtful and sweet. I wish I could give her a hug, but she's in California. I tried to call her, but she's not home now.

pro's CI - 5:40pm

I'm so frustrated, I don't know whether to scream or cry. I have a bug in my program that I can't find, and I'm too tired to look for methodically. I didn't expect to have to write this program in the first place. I thought I was done. I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I'm sick of sitting here. I so wanted to finish this today, and I will not.

found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUGH!!!!!!!!!!! Found the bug. And I said I liked computers... why?? :?

ahhhh....

I've got what I need. Now I'm 100% ready to go with the business conversion. But I'm sure there will be problems, so I'd better not do it now. It's 6pm, I'm brain-dead, and I want to eat and go to a meeting at 7pm.

I think I time-binge because I'm impatient - or that's one of the reasons. It's very hard for me to put this down, but I remember how bad I felt when I let myself time binge last week and let go of all my routines and self-care stuff, so I'm not going to do that.

I worked well today, and now I'm DONE!!

Norm's 8pm BE - Last one for the day

OK, well, I didn't get anywhere near finishing my list for the day, but I never believed I would do so well with my Weekly Review (thanks partly to Milo who's organising suggestions gave me an idea for dealing with my scary in-tray). Now I've processed the in-crate that was on the floor (last week), and have today processed all the stuff from the Household/Joint in-tray, and THE ENTIRE BUSINESS IN-TRAY! Even separated out from the other stuff that tray was still full to overflowing. And I didn't cheat and just shuffle things into different places - I processed it all properly - some of it got put into the appropriate place in the Tickler with a reminder, but most of it got dealt with. Phew! (Can you tell I'm jazzed? LOL!).

Anyway, it's date night now, so off to watch Terminator 2 with DSO.

Have a great day those of you who are still going, and nighty night to the rest! :)

I could swear there was just an earthquake here. The last time I felt my bed shake, it was an earth quake - just a little one. I heard a loud rumble, then shake. But there's nothing on the news this time (last time it was confirmed on the news). Maybe it's just the TV crew on 8th Avenue doing something. They're filming a TV show.

Norm 3pm BE

Still processing this business in-tray....

Also replied to an Email about tickets for a theatre production that got cancelled due to English weather, and replied to an Email from a prospective student. I must be doing something very right - I'm getting quite a few enquiries that result in new students. I didn't used to have to find my own students before when I worked at the College (and this is still the case in my payroll job), so this is all pretty new to me.

Pilates

Do you have a DVD pro or do you do it from a book? I've been to a few sessions - I thought I didn't like it at first, but I tried a diffrerent teacher and I liked her classes. Never had one-to-ones though, and I've only ever done the floor based exercises. Complements yoga quite nicely I think, as there's quite a bit of overlap on the physical side.

Pilates books versus videos

I bought several Pilates videos, but didn't like them and now I'm selling them on amazon.com. The videos don't work as well as the books in Pilates because you really need to understand the concepts behind it, and the videos don't adequately explain that. Also, you can't do the routines smoothly, moving from one exercise to the next as designed, when using a video.

This morning, after going through the intro routine exercise by exercise - reading each description in the book before doing it - I did the whole routine again as a fluid whole. It's very nice to do it that way - can't with a video.

The books explain the theory, they tell you the exact positioning of your body that you are striving for, how your breathing should synchronize, and show frame-by-frame photographs of what the exercise should look like. Then they tell you the transition positions into the next exercise. A trainer is good because she/he can correct your positioning. I think I can get away without this because I have years of dance training and already have been through the posture correction thing with a ballet teacher. I'm starting with a lot of core strength and control.

And yes, it's very compatible with yoga - draws from it with the breathing and mindfulness.

Of all the types of exercises I've tried I prefer Pilates because it trains your body to do what it naturally does as well as possible. It's not like ballet with its exaggerated turnouts, unnaturally wide stretches, etc. It teaches you correct posture, correct breathing, and teaches you to be in full control of your body. I really like it.
