LarrySeattle's Check In - Tues Sept 21 2010

Wow - I got 80% of Project XPT done and that's it!

Better than nothing!

I am going to work on time estimating for work - I need to double estimates of time.

Till tomorrow!

1.  Project XPT - 1 hour estimate

2.  Project LTX - 1 hour estimate

<===========================>

What's next - What's next - What's next!  What's the next thing on the List?

LarrySeattle's Check In - Tues Sept 21 2010 - 11:54PM on

Hello All!  I am new here and want to try the check in at a last minute of the day.  I have an hour or 2 of work yet before time for sleep.  Here goes!

1.  Project XPT - 1 hour estimate

2.  Project LTX - 1 hour estimate

Here I go!!

What's next - What's next - What's next!

What's the next thing on the List?

Trying something new...

I keep posting l-o-n-g lists of things to do on here because so many items seem to be of near equal concern to me, but then I feel discouraged when I don't get more done or I get distracted by other things. Also, I already keep an even longer list on on my desktop so that I don't forget anything (Ha!) and thus have two lists going. So, my "newer", new approach (let's face it - I try something new every other day it seems) is to add completed items on this list as I go along:

RUNNING LIST OF THINGS I'M ACCOMPLISHING TODAY:

cleaned up dog
folded sheets
prepped for work
called Discover about new interest calcs
called Verizon about phone bill
talked to my son =)
returned email
called Cathy about Noah's Rosetta Stone
made appointments with three families
sent information about science labs

Check-In at 3:20 pm

Following my last check-in on 15Sep2010 I've been spinning my wheels a bit. Very common for me to lose traction after one big milestone - get absorbed in routine and not tackle the next Big Project(s).

Trouble is that I have several looming on me over the next month - a big one at work and three at home, and those are just the ones that have near-term deadlines attached.

So Right Now, I'm sitting down to tailor my priority list to address these projects, the other stuff that can't be ignored, and get my other 2do's safely filed where they won't be forgotten but aren't nagging (I actually have a semi-functional system for that using Outlook Tasklist and a commercial hardcopy organizer; I just have to make myself use it.)

My goal for what's left of today is to get that list together and start tacking the immediate tasks based on true priority and not the first thought, or the first sticky-note reminder, to pop up.

Anyway, back to the gym this morning  and second day at work after vacation.  pretty good day so far, but I'm avoiding the task I need to do now.   bookending finishing requirements.

I passed my thesis proposal/oral exam yesterday! woohoo!! Thank you all for your support.

I slept in a bit this morning, then went to a work meeting. Today is a relatively low-key day (I want some time to recover from weeks of studying) but I do want to get back into the swing of labwork)

*Make a schedule for the week
*Manage expt
*Work on S's project
*Deal w/ email and some papers

And then a bunch of non-work stuff:
Prayer time
Dinner w/ girls group
Deacon notes, email about YG
Financial stuff
Clean bathroom

Going to lunch now, then I'll manage expt.

You deserve it!

What a great accomplishment. From all the hard work that I've seen you put in here on the chatbox and check ins, you have really earned this milestone.  Congratulations!  Give yourself a biiiiig pat on the back! Whooo hooo!!!!

(Kromer)

  Yes....................we can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulaions.

Congratulations and Thank You, Kromer!

First of all, a big CONGRATULATIONS to Kromer on passing her thesis proposal / oral exam! Anyone who has done anything like that, or know someone who has, knows just what a big accomplishment that is. Just hearing about it helps inspire my own efforts, so I say Kromer gets a THANK YOU too!

Hooray Kromer!

Well...the cold finally caught up with me!  Decided to stay home today and rest.

Lots to do at the house (isn't there always!) but I'm giving myself proper permission to let go and let myself get well.  Will do some 'quiet' tasks like menu planning, writing and a small bit of filing.

I hope everyone has a productive day!
