11:35 AM: Now 10 days out from leaving my painful prior job. Only three days out from finishing emptying my old office. Rest of the month has several divorce related meetings and appearances. Hopefully can finish up all necessary paperwork, licensing, and certification requirements to start pending new job in another state in October (?).
A key question is how can I best utilize uncommitted time the next few weeks? Would like to work on some personal development, including the procrastination that always holds me back. I also have to deal quickly and effectively with procrastination about certain requirements I have to meet to be able to start my new job as soon as possible. I wanted some 'down time' between the jobs, but can't really afford a prolonged work break.
Four things I would like to work on incorporating into my life effectively are:
1. Volunteer work for a professional society in my field. I am involved in committee work, but tend to procrastinate about it, even though the activities are rewarding and enjoyable.
2. Exercise. My work is sedentary, and I tend to deal with stress and frustration through 'comfort' eating. However, making time to exercise, and actually getting myself to do it, are things I procrastinate about. Right now I do not have the excuse of my job, so the 'only' thing holding me back is procrastination. I know I have to do it, so I try not to.
3. Personal development study. I want to read positive, inspirational, educational material that will help me to better understand myself. In addition, I want to learn some things just for myself. I would like to begin studying a foreign language, and I would like to start learning some kind of artistic expression, although I am not sure what. Obviously, all I can try to do is get started in some of these areas. That is enough for now. The followup challenge will be to try to maintain whatever it is I do once I get back into the work setting.
4. Work related study. I have not been good about keeping up with literature and developments in my own field. It is something I have procrastinated about since I started working. Again, it's something I know I 'have to' do, so I resist it. Part of it is probably fear of boredom, and the implication that maybe I am in the wrong field because it doesn't interest me that much. Part of it, though, is probably fear of failure and fear of having to face the idea that I am not competent or capable in my field. It is easier to 'just work' and let the work provide whatever positive feedback and sense of competence it does. I realize that this doesn't make sense. *If* I can develop my skills and knowledge further, even a little, I will be able to do a better job, and maybe do it more quickly and more confidently. But I have to overcome the obstacles to getting started.
For today, I will try to spend a little time on Personal development study.
Goal 1: 30 minutes of reading about mindfulness.
Goal 2: 30 minutes of looking at an introductory Spanish language text I purchased on an impulse yesterday while browsing in a bookstore.
OK, had a good morning, prayer time and grocery store trip, but now I'm seriously dawdling and don't want to work.
For today I need to finish and email out write-up, make slides, go over pathways, email about practice quals, and start going through 2 classes worth of material.
I also need to email about prices, set up expts, return library books and make orders.
And say good bye to a friend who's moving across the country, call my mom, and email a friend who's moved to Australia and is lonely.
Thank you ((Edge)) for the hug and starter, back at ya!!! Hi Lennon!!
Yesterday I cleaned refrigerator; gave Yoffee a bath; did a load of laundry; swept a little; & cleaned bathroom. I, thankfully, feel accomplished, but with all the things I still have to do, slightly mad at me for starting (as usual) so late in the game.
Procrastinating:
-my 0% balance credit card expires on 9/15, I have to find another balance transfer
-getting $160 back from my gym, that they shouldn't have charged me.
-volunteer project
-ordering water, etc.
♥Prayers & guidance needed & appreciated for my Yoffee's healing.♥
Sorry for the early thread starter; it's difficult for me to post my list in the morning before work, so posted it early  Hope no one minds :* Have a great day!
