Thanks for getting me laughing today - I'd be crazy otherwise on 4 hours of sleep since Wednesday morning...
I just got off one intense conf call and am taking an intentional "balk-break" before jumping onto another one already in progress where they "need" me...man, I am feeling very resistant to how "needed" I am! Once upon a time that made me feel important so I encouraged it. But at this stage of my life and PA recovery I find it is a huge pain, and the source of much of my resistance and demand-sensitivity.
sigh...oh well, at least most of it this day is billable...

Another nearly sleepless night last night. It's probably connected to an antidepressant I'm trying to quit. I suspected cold turkey is not the way to go. Back on it at reduced dosage for awhile. I need my sleep! Yesterday had poor work productivity but I'm trying to focus on today, not the past. So, the sked:
MORNING
get up, drink coffee, read paper
post to checkins (briefly, don't write any long essays)
take medicine
physical therapy session
draft lowcost (trying to do this for three days, it's a several-hours-long project)
AFTERNOON
File lowcost
Pick up kids at school
EVENING
Have fun with kids
Bed by 11 p.m.
Basically, I have put all available wood behind one arrow -- the lowcost project -- in hopes of completing it today. Will let you know how it goes. Scribbler
Later ... well, it's not going as well as it might. I've accomplished a number of things today, but I have not and most likely will not complete the lowcost project, since I have to pick up the kids from school in 20 minutes. The cause unquestionably is procrastination. I feel the demandresistance like a boat anchor around my neck. Actually, that's overstating it. I've made some progress on the project, probably 25 percent of what I hoped to get done today. Still, it's disappointing. I'll keep trying.
Since starting here at AP I've had some of the most productive...and consequently....happy days that I can remember. I'm realistic enough to know that the 'new' will wear off of this experience after a while, but I'm going to ride the positive wave while I can!
Over the past few days I've had a lot of success with 'Timeboxing' i.e. 15 minute 'rounds' of work followed by 5 minutes of rest. Rinse, repeat. So, I'll continue with what works and follow that plan again today.
Last couple days were not great, but today I think can be better.
Scheduled: seminar 12-1 (heading to this now), youth group 6-10.
MITs:
*Start Dmc1 expt (1 hr) (seminar went late so timing doesn't work out for me to do this, instead will need to do tomorrow or Sunday) *Write up where I want to be by end of summer
*Check on expts
*Finish VAD plots, document (1 hr) (have made decent progress, trying to finish this up now)
*Bug LT and LL about expts
(30 min)
*Pre-reg (1 hr)
Other tasks:
*Orders & figure out supplies (mostly done w/ this, a little more to do)
*Make a plan going forward for EA's expt (1 hr)
*Deacon stuff (1 hr)
*Talk to MC/read about bacterial expression system(1 hr)
OK, I'll start the day by doing pre-reg, finishing VAD plots, and bugging LT and LL.
Well, yesterday I only did about half the stuff on my list which was due to poor planning rather than procrastination. I have gotten in the habit of making a schedule based on my todo list, which functions as a sanity check. I didn't do that yesterday and it showed! But anyway, I feel good about yesterday because I stayed busy all day and didn't procrastinate. I did some work and had some fun too. So here's today's list. I normally make my todo list on another tool but since I'm off work I'm doing it here!
Swim and/or other exercise DONE
marinate pork chops DONE
1 load Laundry DONE
Dinner and Dishes DONE
Check work email and start the restore jobs DONE
Time Sheet for work DONE
Clean out car DONE
10 minutes of filing DONE
Find the SSA form again DONE
Organize kitchen junk drawer Worked on this but didn't finish
Straighten & dust desk and bedroom DONE
Vacuum Bedroom (can postpone if needed due to added task) DONE
start on menus & grocery list for next week DONE
finish looking thru the Bon Appetit cookbook Worked on this but didn't finish
fill up spray bottles DONE
flowers DONE
June budget pay bills for June 1 DONE
Stop by credit union DONE
added: pick up car DONE
I think we can call this a CTDL - a completed to do list ! (pats self on back)
Good night all!

Instead of allowing procrastination to ruin my life, today I hope to unleash the hidden powers of procrastination. I plan to resist telling off my boss. I will resist eating in excess. I will resist buying the extremely expensive outdoor carpet that I want. I will resist leaving work until all of my work is finished.
Sorry, but that's gotta be one of the best CIs ever. Also reminds me that you can use one "must do today" task to procrastinate with another "must do today" task.
This is an excellent concept! It's like knot-tying with mobius strips. Everything's connected, man. You just have to pull the right string. Pass the joint...Thanks. Very helpful perspective. Scribbler
