Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
Made some progress today, kept procrastination down and did my first attempt at an assignment due on friday, I hope to take this one step further on Wednesday!
Done:
Out to get cough mixture
Prayer and reflection
Bath wash hair personal care
Checked emails several times
Cooking and washing up
Wrote journal
Research bedding on web
OK I have been reasonably busy today. I have been working on a good CV, not one that is thrown together because I resent doing it. It isn't finished yet but I do hope to finish it tomorrow.
I have an interview on Friday and so I am preparing in all the ways I can. It is remarkably stressful. Please would someone remind me that going to interviews is much more stressful than actually doing a job?
"Please would someone remind me that going to interviews is much more stressful than actually doing a job?"
Laughed when I read this (and still smiling). This is so true! Some interviewers are like cruel children peering at you like a bug in a jar, looking for ways to make you squirm. I think it's because they are trying to show their peers how tough and protective of the team they are.
And THEN, when you get the job, the rest of the office bends over backwards to make you feel welcome. (Bringing donuts on the first day doesn't hurt either.)
I had an experience that showed me one way that I get triggered into procrastinating.
I had a job interview that I was very hopeful about, and it went strangely (not poorly, just weird, and in that way, I guess poorly might be accurate.)
anyway, when I got out, first I wanted to take a nap (my first choice in procrastination!) I prayed, reached out w/ some phone calls, both of which seemed to alleviate my frustration and desire to nap. Then during calling I wanted to call a male friend in whom I'm interested (but I've decided not to initiate dates with) in order to set up a "dinner date" to talk about my interview. (He's in my program, and this would be apporpriate if I had not decided already to not try to initiate romance using the program as an excuse.)
Luckily in time I realized what I was doing (using romantic fantasies and sometimes action to procrastinate) Whew!!! Thanks for listening.
I am going on with my to-do list for the day, things that I WANT to do and actually have some control over!
Reading your post was really inspiring to me. It is so amazing to learn something new about the why/how/when/where of procrastination, and then the lessons become the biggest step forward of all, bigger than the situation that prompted the lesson!
For me every time that lightbulb goes off ("oh! that's what I'm doing") it feels like a huge step forward on my spiritual/emotional/intellectual path. One I never would have made without everything I'm learning from PA.
Thanks so much for your post. Congratulations and have fun today!!
Hi group. Long time. Glad to be getting back. No sorries or promises - it's one day at a time for this addict. I can say this for sure: When I read everyone's posts here I am so inspired that I wonder why I stay away sometimes. Thanks to all who shared today; I learn from you.
So far today I have completed one major project and all I can do on a second one, pending someone else. I just finished lunch and now must take these steps to avoid procrastinating the rest of the day:
Scan invitation and flow docs DONE
Review brg notes DONE briefly, repeat more in depth tomorrow
schedule action items
Call cl re ap/cs
:15 break
thank you notes
review monday's action list - where am I? DONE but need to review again
catch up to monday's list progress made but the need continues
walk dog
dinner
microburst 2008 corp taxes backlog (just open the briefcase...)
schedule another microburst in the morning for the bills pile
schedule another microburst tomorrow night for the medicare pile
11:59pm - This was a killer-stressful day, many emergent issues not even on radar when I made my plan. After my post-lunch break I never stopped even to eat dinner, then had a low blood-sugar/blood pressure crisis - tables were turned and J had to help me for a change - lol! We made it through, and again I see that my procrastination can be quite dangerous at times. Asking my Higher Power to help me do better tomorrow. G'night friends. Thanks for being here.

Had a lot of trouble getting started today. It's my second day of what I hope to be a long recovery journey in DA and PA. I will do anything to recover at this point. I am so tired of how unproductive and wasteful my lifestyle is. So waking up this morning and realizing I have to do stuff....important stuff...and I just have jump into it like a cold bath is both scary and exciting. I wanted to sleep in....but I couldn't allow myself, I was too nervous and anxious. So here I am assembling what I hope to be a productive day.
So here's what I got to do today...
print out resume
go to labor office
fill out that form
walk eli
go to the gym
eat and take meds
write my 750 words
Go to DA Meeting
Take a baby step with my backtaxes.
Do my numbers and enter them into an excel spreadsheet
I'm a fellow DA'er and it took DA to get me here, which I think is at least HALF of my undereargning problem. Keep at it!! It's like peeling an onion somedays, but it works!
I love that bat. I want to put up a bat house in my yard but my family does not agree lol.
Anyway, I'm having a hard time getting started this morning. I'm working from home. I got up and got dressed for the gym but I just couldn't tolerate the shoes. I did a few exercises on my own so that's a start at least. Maybe Thursday I can handle my normal class as my foot is getting much better. It's still kinda depressing not to be able to do my normal activities so I moped around for a little while after that. The foot has now been iced and wrapped and feels fine for now.
I'm still making my todo list for the day . . .but it's not too late to have a good day, so here goes!

'Today you have the opportunity to handle those old situations in a completely new way.' - Michael J. Emery
A belated start today, but still optimistic. I managed to get the kitchen into good shape last night before I went to bed, and to set out my meds for this morning, so I have been able to get rolling, but I still have State taxes to face that I ran out of pep for last night. I am asking my HP for help in doing the next right thing today.
The bed is made, 1st meds taken, and the BB/BS donation was picked up this morning. I need to get a donation slip downloaded today, as they forgot to leave me one.
The phone meeting in the morning has become my reason to get up and face the day in a positive frame of mind. Thanks
6:30 Morning meditation done!
7:30CT Phone CI Meeting done!
Workout done! and shower done!
PT done!
URD (2 sections)
PM (2 sections) done!
Assemble BB estimates done! YAY!
File claim done! While doing, went ahead and got 6 tasks out of way that needed to be done for Friday. Hope this wasn't time bingeing but they were "sooner, the better" tasks too.
Call A/M done! whew!
Call JW
Call JP done!
2:30CT Phone CI Meeting hearing everyone's voices was so reassuring!
PT done!
8:30CT Phone CI Meeting done!
Meditation/Gratitude Journaldone!
Evening Prayers done!
Really dreading a couple of the tasks on this list, one I at least
started on yesterday but left the most anxiety-inducing part for
later. Trying to practice non-attachment with this and take myself out
of the equation except as the instrument of getting it done. Same with
one of the phone calls.
I have been silent for awhile. Major melt down, demand resistance, or procreastination, not sure which one maybe a little bit of all. Needless to say I am back in my rut but I am looking up out of my rut with different eyes. Which is a good thing. I just do not know how to make the changes that need to be made. I do not know how to trust myself with my life, but I have to start trying. Anyway I am back not to start over but to pick up with the positive things that have worked and helped move me close to my (at this point) imaginary goal. But I need to trash the junk that is not working, I need to allow myself to do it and stop trying to make things work that just do not work. So moving on with what does work and that is planning. So for today
"I have been silent for awhile. Major melt down, demand resistance, or procreastination, not sure which one maybe a little bit of all. "
Reminds me of feelings of withdrawl, isolation, relapse when I was in oa, as well as items stated above in PA.
( I do not know how to trust myself with my life, but I have to start trying. Anyway I am ba"ck not to start over but to pick up with the positive things that have worked and helped")
Reminds me of how I was with food. and exactly what I had to do, it took me eight (8) years to develop a food plan that works for me and I could trust.Nothing that every one else was doing and I was trying to do. When our group had a relapse panel at OA marathon, I was the first one everyone thought of. Today, after 22+ years of "my" food plan, I have kept the weight off, do not think about whether or not I am going to binge today when I wake up, or have my job/relationships/social life/ etc. depend on what I ate/did not eat that day.Walking on water would be a much less miracle than that.
I have "hope-faith" (no pun intended, just coinsidence) that the plan of Hope-Faith , as stated above will work again for me in PA. Thanks for reminding me.
Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. Your post really gave me spirits and extra boost and I really did need that. It is encouraging to learn of your success with OA. First to realize that there are others who have struggled before me and have realized success and second to realize that I too one day will be able to realize success and be able to look back on my journy and see that my struggles are a part of the process and not the end but the beginning.
You are right I will learn from this setback and I am sure it will not be the last setback. I am very thankful for this site and for you and others here that take the time offer words encouragement.
Thanks, again. Encouragement to me is medicine for the emotional wounds that I inflect upon myself. Thanks for the medicine "Doc".
