huma & GSD's May Meliorism!

Meliorism - noun - the doctrine that the world tends to become better or
may be made better by human effort.
Cool (hey, May stars with "M" so I tried to find a good "M" word!

Let's make some improvements! Get StuffDone Laughing and I worked hard in April, and we're both determined to get better in May. This thread is for us, and anyone else who wants to join, to state a goal here for the month, and then track your progress as May proceeds. Use whatever rating
system you want.

I grade myself each day on a five-star scale. In April, I averaged 2.60 stars/day. In March I
had averaged 2.74 stars per day. I'm focused on a May goal of 3.0 stars per
day. Here's how I grade myself (again, you don't have to do this -- assess yourself by whatever method you want)

***** - A perfect day -- very, very rare. Worked like a madman all day
and all night, hardly any rest

**** - Excellent day, got a lot done, procrastinated very little

*** - A satisfactory day; got some tasks done well, but could have done a
bit better

** - A small amount done, but procrastinated too much

* - Totally wasted my day; pathetic lack of effort

just a thought--Do you think it would help if you could set up your system so you felt a positive sense of accomplishment for each thing you did, even if you didn't do everything? And so no day would be a failure, even if you had aimed at doing more???

(Just for myself, it's easier to keep going as I learn not to be hard on myself.)

I do try to appreciate the good things I accomplish, but unfortunately yesterday I did NOTHING. So that's really disappointing. I keep thinking that I'm going to improve -- I know what my weaknesses are - but I keep falling into this rut.

Horrendous stretch. Thursday I was going ok, then websurfed deep into the night, leaving myself less than 2 hours sleep. Friday I was useless, trying to catch up on rest. Saturday I was rested -- and then did NOTHING all day. I have enormous pressures on me right now and yet it is as if I am trying to completely ignore them. I know what I need to do every day. Why do I do this to myself? Yell

Interesting history... on March 19, I had 49 stars in 19 days. On April 19, I had 50 stars in 19 days. On May 19, I have 50 stars in 19 days. Three different months, three different patterns, but all three have ended up in the same spot after 19 days.

I improved slightly to end up at 2.74 stars/day in March.

I went down a little to finish with 2.60 stars/day in April. 

My goal is 3.0 stars/day in May. Can I possibly make it? Past history says no. But I KNOW I have the potential to do it. I have to try. I have 12 days left - if I have seven ****s and five ***s, I will make it. I can't afford to have any **s or *s.

According to my calculations of 3.0 stars/day and with 2.59 stars so fars,using a greatest possible error of +/- 0.5 your %error is 19.3% . That is pretty good if you ask me!! That means you are 80.7% on target, and May is not over!!Wow!

I feel like so far this has been a great success. I actually have not lost all my goals on slips of papers everywhere. Working on things together almost makes me feel like I am at work and doing "team work" with great people. That concept has always worked for me.

Last week I did not focus on gratitude, so I would have been disappointed no matter what I did.(and I was , the critic in me just would not shut up and seemed to start criticizing everyone around me) This week, I decided to focus more on gratitude and putting my program 1st, I even made some outreach calls this weekend, when I put prigram 1st, everything else seems to fall in place, at least for me.

A five star day...did a LOT...but I'm disappointed.

I had a deadline (as usual), and I underestimated the time required (as usual)...so now I've been up for the past 30 hours desperately trying to finish this task. (And I've had so much coffee I don't think I can *ever* fall asleep again...!)

I guess I just have to learn my lessons from this experience:

(1) I *thought* I had made an intelligent, realistic plan. I hadn't. Next time I should leave PLENTY of extra time for each task (twice as much as I think is necessary), and shouldn't try to take short-cuts. It's better to overestimate the time required than underestimate it. Also, I should never, under any circumstance, try to finish things at the last minute. This causes waaay too much stress.

(2) Set an hour or so everyday to revise plans/review work etc.  

Okay, off to make an realistic, intelligent plan that will actually work this time... Smile

 After the grueling # 1 unfinished business item was worked on (over and over because I kept losing the paper), I checked on line and it did go through!! It may have been tooo late but they adjusted it.

Only by going through the pain of it all and sharing as a group....

They say when the pain of change becomes less than the pain of no change, for some people, it helps in the road of recovery. True for me.
