huma & GSD's May Meliorism!
Meliorism - noun - the doctrine that the world tends to become better or
may be made better by human effort. (hey, May stars with "M" so I tried to find a good "M" word! )
Let's make some improvements! Get StuffDone and I worked hard in April, and we're both determined to get better in May. This thread is for us, and anyone else who wants to join, to state a goal here for the month, and then track your progress as May proceeds. Use whatever rating
system you want.
I grade myself each day on a five-star scale. In April, I averaged 2.60 stars/day. In March I
had averaged 2.74 stars per day. I'm focused on a May goal of 3.0 stars per
day. Here's how I grade myself (again, you don't have to do this -- assess yourself by whatever method you want)
***** - A perfect day -- very, very rare. Worked like a madman all day
and all night, hardly any rest
**** - Excellent day, got a lot done, procrastinated very little
*** - A satisfactory day; got some tasks done well, but could have done a
bit better
** - A small amount done, but procrastinated too much
* - Totally wasted my day; pathetic lack of effort
Good luck GetStuffDone and everyone else! Get a little better this month than you were last month! Let's have a May full of IMPROVEMENT and SUCCESS!

huma 5/2 recap
Started late today, had a good midday, but needed to rally late at night. Forced me to go to bed too late. Won't have enough sleep tomorrow. Crap. Oh well, I did get a decent amount of work done at least.
5/2: ***
May total: 6 stars/2 days
May goal: 3.0 stars/day
May so far: 3.0 stars/day

GSD May 2
I had a horrible start...I was overwhelmed by the amount of studying I had to catch up with. However, I started taking things one step at a time, and I started proving to myself how much I could get done if I just set my mind to it.
My total procrastination in the entire day was under half an hour, a new record. I never even knew I was capable of working so much! I would have given myself five stars if I had finished everything in my check-in list. I couldn't, although I did get a large amount done.
So, today, I will settle for four stars: ****
May total: 6 stars/2 days
May average: 3 stars/day
Good luck everyone! Have a wonderful May!
AWESOME GSD!!!
I'm really proud of you!! Fantastic day!
Also -- you should reconsider your 4-star rating and make it a 5-star. Here's why: you said you procrastinated for under a 1/2 hour. That's FANTASTIC for ANYONE - Oprah, Obama, heck God, LOL!
You said you didn't finish your tasks. But that's not because you procrastinated -- it's because you were unrealistic in listing what you could humanly do in a day. You need to be realistic when making your daily list.
So I say - change it to 5 stars!

Thanks for naming the May Meliorism after me as well! I feel so honoured! :) I like the definition of meliorism too!
I only finished a tiny fraction of what I had planned for today. However, I did push myself to work even though I was feeling sick. Therefore, I give myself 2 stars. Not a great start, but I'm sleeping early tonight so, hopefully, I'll be feeling better tomorrow.
To quote you, Huma, here's to "a May full of IMPROVEMENT and SUCCESS!" Good luck to you! :)

May Week 1 goal: **** (I really want to push myself to work harder this week. I have some important exams.)
thank you
The word Meliorism is a new word for me but s good one. I love the definition.
Helen's May Goals
1. I will do productive work (in the home, outside the home, creative work, research, study, self-care, exercise) for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. Productive work isn't sleeping, watching TV or DVD's nor is it surfing the Internet.
2. I will get a job
3. I will get out of the house and be social
4. I will manage my finances
5. I will manage my administration and work on the backlog
6. I will study without little procrastination
7. I will create and adhere to nutrition, exercise and self care routines
8. I will meet my commitments to people.
9. I will create and keep a pleasant home
I have a slightly different scoring system as I don't want to work all night and I use a wall calendar and stickers.
Gold star (5 star) - Worked my hours and took steps towards many of my goals
Silver star (4 star)- Did a lot of productive work including steps towards some of my goals
Green star (3 star) - Did some productive work including steps towards some of my goals
Blue Star (2 star) - Did some productive work
Red star (1 star) - Pointless day. No productive work
Yellow star - Day off
Good luck, Helen!
Have a great May! Your coloured stars system sounds interesting! :)
hooray Helen!
That seems great Helen. Good luck. I am struggling with just the day to day. I thought there was a daily board so now I am confused and overwhelmed if I have to have a list for the month of May.
Don't worry, me too
I have got better at planning and goal setting but I struggle day to day too. So far today is only a two star day :(. There is a daily board but depending where you live in the world you might not see it first thing because of the time difference. I think it really is best to take it day by day at first. After all a month is only a necklace of days, nothing more. Just aim for the best most productive day you can manage and use the tools here.
