I have a big project that keeps getting postponed, so I'm going to break it down here and note my progress. *sigh* hope this helps!
1. Social Security Administration Name Change
Go thru the filing and find all the related paperwork that I already have - probably a couple of hours work as I'll want to go ahead and file everything in the filing box while I'm at itFigure out how to request my marriage license application - one hourRequest it - one hourRelated task - figure out how to request spare copies of family's birth certificates - one hourRequest them. - one hourWhen MLA arrives, schedule a day of vacation to deal with the Social Security Administration. - 5 minutesSocial Security Administration bullsh*t - 8 hours - maybe less but schedule a day.- Some kinda big reward for finishing!
Well, it's a year later BUT IT IS DONE

(Journey) that's great!
Well done for seeing it right through. Now go and enjoy your achievement

Congratulations to Journey!
I just read your whole thread, from the bottom of the page upwards, tracing your process. Love how you began with the simple step of "find the file". Didn't open the file, but you found it. Later, you opened the file. Step by step, you got it done!
CONGRATS!
That's awesome the hear!

Woot! I did get an email response from vital records. Today, I'll fill out the request form, write a cover letter as the email suggested. Saturday I'll get a certified check or a money order and send it off.
No studying yesterday

2 months later . . .
I finally made the trek to the p.o. for the money order and put the request in the mail for my marriage license application record! Now, we wait for the document to arrive, then look forward to a day at the SSA.

Adventure Update
I have not heard back from vital records big surprise. I don't really have time to call today, so I'll call tomorrow if I don't get an email response by the end of the day.
In other news, I reinstalled linux in a partition on my pc (using WUBI) and figured out how to get to the command line, so I can get back to studying for my certification.
I also did 5 minutes of filing but it was mainly stuff I had piled in there from a stack of stuff elsewhere in the bedroom. Still it was 5 minutes of filing! If I do this several times a week, the filing box should become (and STAY) empty. Then it's time to tackle the file cabinet. But that's a project for another day. The file cabinet is working and it's out of sight, so it's fairly low on the priority list!

Found the website, printed the form, and sent an email to Vital Records to make sure that this will get me the document that I need, or if I have to go to the County Probate Court. I'm hoping I can do it through the mail . . . so now I'm waiting for a reply. If I don't hear back by Wednesday I will call.

Opened the file! I found the instructions for requesting my marriage license application, and put it in my work bag. I'll find the form online tomorrow, print it out, and fill it out. The next step will be getting a money order or certified check to send with it.
I also filed 12 items in the filing stack. Again thankful that "the pile" no longer exists.

Did 15 minutes of filing today and I found THE FILE *gag*. Part of me wants to say I'll stop here until all the filing is done, but we all know it will never all be done so I'm putting THE FILE in my work bag and I'll start taking baby steps. I can still work on filing, which needs to be done on a routine basis anyway. I did not open THE FILE mind you, I just stuffed it in my work bag without looking at it. Tomorrow we'll work on looking at it

P.S. Just taking a moment to remember THE PILE which is long gone thanks to PA.

Faced the filing box and worked on it for five minutes. That's not a lot, but if I did 5 minutes every day it would be finished before you know it!

You could use your PC as a local server for test purposes without having to partition the disc first. http://www.akamarketing.com/setting-up-a-local-server.html
Good luck with it all
Thanks Helen!
