Wow what an inspiring day to be a PA-er here! Thanks to everyone for the awesome threads below; I'm all warm inside.
Got up late today because I stayed up too late last night, because I worked too late yesterday, because I started working too late in the day, because I was selfish and unstructured with my morning time. Mornings are when J is asleep and I have the whole house to myself and the pets, no TV or caregiving responsibilities, and I really hog it out during this time. Hmm...I am going to give some thought to weighing the consequences of continuing this pattern, versus using my mornings to be more productive at work and trade off for evening R&R.
Meanwhile, da MITs du jour:
MM tasks my timing was way off on these pieces, but it is all DONE!
using existing PPE?
plus one more today (GOAL: 10:30am)
call w CL this morning to ID the right one for this

EM – contract mod? required research and hand-off, which is DONE!
Today should be a little easier than yesterday...back on routine, though this is a bit of a short day and I'm running later than I'd like.
Lots of scheduled stuff today: seminar 12:30-1:30 mtg 1:30-3 or 3:30
youth group + planning mtg 4:10-9ish
I have some time to work on my own work in between these scheduled things. And I can work hard to be a good, focused participant at meetings
I want to:
*Make progress on gonial prolif project (this seems to be a big project, so I don't want to promise to get done, but I do want to make progress.
In particular, I'd like to take the following steps:
**figure out the bug in my gene mapping
**get list of somatic genes (working on this now, have made good progress)
**make plot of housekeeping genes
**make plot of somatic genes
**implement ratio correction for sorted data
*Pull together my presentation for mtg
*Go through 1 or 2 previous expts, to help work out plan for S8 expt.
*Check on cells, do any needed expt. work.
*Choose and email journal club paper
If I have more time, I'd like to:
*Exercise
*Laundry
OK, heading to chatbox now. I'll work on gonial prolif project for an hour, then switch to pulling together presentation for mtg.
OK, today has been a bit rough (I think I over-estimated how much I could get done, plus I've been totally exhausted after getting home from church and resisting working.
If I can get list of somatic genes, make plots, finish up laundry and do 5 min simple exercise, I'll be very happy. Heading to the chatbox to get this done.
Update 12--well, I didn't quite get through this (didn't make plots, and didn't do the handwashing for laundry, though I did the machine part+hanging to dry, which is most of the work.
I'm going to go do 5 min simple exercise now, then I'll go to bed.
Really busy and overwhelmed with lots of work to do .. . one of my projects is behind . . . and thankfully it is not my fault! It's a combination of things, and sure I could always work harder but I've been working pretty hard. I still feel guilty though, and why? I dunno but posting here about it to turn it around. It is what it is, and I'm doing all I can. Yeah! (fist pump).
What did Huma say yesterday? : "I'm going to put a smile on my face, put forth a good effort, and be better today than I was yesterday"
I really love that.

"Bless the present. Trust yourself. Expect the best." --Steve Nobel
They tell the following story about the famous Polish pianist
Paderewski. A mother had a little boy who was learning to play the
piano. In order to encourage him she took him to a concert by the famous
Paderewski. Both of them arrived at the music hall a bit early and soon
the mother got into a conversation with one of her lady friends.
Meanwhile, the little boy wandered off....When it was eight o'clock, the
spotlights came on and the stage curtain opened. And there was that
little boy seated at the piano innocently playing that children's song,
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star." Paderewski came on stage and quickly
moved over to the piano. "Don't quit. Just keep on playing," he
whispered to the little boy. Then he leaned over the boy and put his
hands onto the keyboard right alongside the little boy's. The little boy
kept repeating and repeating "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and
meanwhile the genius was weaving all kinds of new melodies around it, a
different one each time. The crowd was thrilled by this
unprepared concert. As we play our little melody in our daily life, God whispers
to us, "Don't quit, Keep on playing..." And He makes a masterpiece out
of our simple music.
Thank you. Loved the story, so true.. goes with an ariticle I read:
Brooks: How Do You Become A Genius? Practice, Practice, PracticeContra the racially tinged views championed by Andrew "Fifth Column/Bell Curve" Sullivan, Charles Murray and other racialists, David Brooks trots out the old "How do you get to Carnegie Hall joke? Practice, practice, practice." Brooks writes:The key factor separating geniuses from the merely accomplished is not a divine spark. It’s not I.Q., a generally bad predictor of success, even in realms like chess. Instead, it’s deliberate practice. Top performers spend more hours (many more hours) rigorously practicing their craft.[MORE . . .]. . . If you wanted to picture how a typical genius might develop, you’d take a girl who possessed a slightly above average verbal ability. It wouldn’t have to be a big talent, just enough so that she might gain some sense of distinction. Then you would want her to meet, say, a novelist, who coincidentally shared some similar biographical traits. Maybe the writer was from the same town, had the same ethnic background, or, shared the same birthday — anything to create a sense of affinity. This contact would give the girl a vision of her future self. . . .. . . Coyle and Colvin describe dozens of experiments fleshing out this process. This research takes some of the magic out of great achievement. But it underlines a fact that is often neglected. Public discussion is smitten by genetics and what we’re “hard-wired” to do. And it’s true that genes place a leash on our capacities. But the brain is also phenomenally plastic.
Thank you. That is great!! I did not know. I just posed a free coach session link there. It is so good and uplifting for positive change. I hope someone is helped- it did me.

Had a crap day yesterday, procrastinated all day long, with the exception of a meeting during the day and a toastmaster meeting in the evening. I was nervous about the tm meeting during the day, which kind of got me in apathy mode/watch True Blood. But I'm proud of myself for going (and speeking) despite my anxiety.
Well I was total rubbish yesterday but today is a fresh new day. I have woken up at 5am and so I am likely to need to nap later but I will press on for now. Today’s priority are my studies plus I want to 'clear the decks' of some of my niggly administration as this will add simplicity to my life.
Another day largely wasted. I woke at 5 am, stumbled around until 1pm getting a few things done. Slept all afternoon and did a short bit of study and listened to a hypnosis tape. Feel frustrated with myself. I have a study deadline looming and have procrastinated for 6 weeks before starting. I am making some progress with the studies but I hope I will have more energy over the weekend and that my sleeping patterns will right themslves. I really don't feel like I have a functioning brain all day if I wake up too early.

Thank you everybody
May we all succeed in our efforts.
But no matter how life goes, and no matter how many times we forget it, we'll be at peace when, even for a moment, we remember:
" In the grand scheme of things, all will be well..."
I'd forgotten this myself, but your comments made me remember it. And i feel a bit better now knowing this.
Love to all.
