Problem Solved: Tech question: Anyone here who knows about MS Office apps?
I did end up uninstalling again. Then I reinstalled, and I made a backup copy of the help file in case it vanishes again.
I'm having a problem and I know some people here are in software fields. Hoping someone can help.

Microsoft Word 2007 help files have disappeared ...
...and repairs do not solve the problem.
Poking around i find that the word help file is called "WINWORD.HXS".
A search for that file on my computer turns up nothing.
I tried running the update because it's supposed to update that file.
But the update claims it has already been run.

it's a patch to install an upgraded help?
another idea is, if you have a spare computer, install office on there, find the winword.hxs file, and manually copy it to the same place on your main computer.
another possibility is http://www.techsupportforum.com/ they have a ms office forum. i tried their security forum for a virus issue, but they never responded. but others seems to get very high quality responses (in security, anyway).
not sure if this is helpful, but hoping you will survive the frustration and get it going again.

Reinstallation didn't help, and the patch update didn't install the new help file, either. :-(((
