fudo_shin: seven days (9:20pm)

No advice, please.  Thank you.

Today I am getting a 1-week "chip" for avoidance from the following:
  • social networking sites, including facebook, twitter, youtube
  • dating sites
  • chatting sites: woome, chat with a stranger, etc.  I cannot be on a
chatting site.  MMORPGs count as "chat sites".  IRC.  The only
    exception is 12 step-related chat.
  • chat programs
  • MMORPGs
  • YouTube, Google videos, Crackle
  • SayNow.com, and calling anyone's associated fan line

alright!!!!!

great!

Journey 1:15

Ha!  Late check in, strange morning.  Skipped the gym this morning because DH wanted to have an indepth convo about a family matter.   Has been an issue for months so I don't  know why he decided to discuss at 5 am on a Thursday but whatever.   Sometimes you just gotta forget your schedule and be there for the people you love, right ? :*

So I arrived at work at 9 on the dot and had an important meeting at 10, which lasted til 12.  Had lunch after the meeting, and just now getting a chance to catch my breath.  Making a to do list for what's left of the day, but MIT #1 is done yay.

Journey 2:40

Just completed a technical meeting  on Project O . . .I feel like I've made major progress on my two biggest projects and I'm ready to pack it in for the day!  This is another trigger for me "OK, I worked hard for a while, now I should goof off the rest of the day!  I deserve it!"

Instead, I will work on some easier/more boring tasks that won't require a lot of energy investment and make use of the 2-3 hours left in the work day.

I do find that working with people is more draining to me than working with computers so I feel tired after meetings or parties.  Although in my dotage I am starting to enjoy interacting with people more than I used to.  I think Toastmasters is a big help in that area.

I'm rambling.  Back to work.

Agnus 12:40pm

Greetings to our smallish group today (where is everybody?).  Despite taking it real easy, I injured my back last night on first time at the gym - grr - so am moving real slowly today. I have a massage at 3:30 so back-timing with these priorities:

  • folo-up emails to dg, centmass
  • Call valp
  • mn proposal
  • call to order cd repro
  • check on scripts
  • dl calls
  • budget to kt
  • 3pm final check of Inbox; close 'puter
  • 3:15 leave for massage
  • 4:45 home, check strlng
  • walk, dinner
  • research m-t mtngs
  • call deb
  • call jgt

Agnus 5:20pm

Just back from massage therapy, walking a bit better but under orders to rest for 3 days. yeah, right. Returned an important phone call. Now need to do truiage as the day has not gone as planned.  Many work-related interruptions to plan du jour, PLUS our server was down so none of my emails went out.  So, how did I accrue 65 new entries in my Inbox?...sheesh.  Need to rearrange priorities now:

  • respond to critical emails
  • resend stuck emails
  • clean Inbox back to good
  • folo-up emails to dg, centmass
  • Call valp
  • mn proposal
  • call to order cd repro
  • check on scripts
  • dl calls
  • budget to kt
  • 3pm final check of Inbox; close 'puter
  • 3:15 leave for massage
  • 4:45 home, check strlng
  • walk, dinner
  • research m-t mtngs
  • call deb
  • call jgt

ouch! @agnus

Hope you recover fast!  It's easy to hurt the old back at our age lol . .

Ag hobbling thru the day...

Thanks for the commisserations, Journey!  I'm tempted to say it's a sign that exercise is really BAD for me!  lol.  But I can't help noticing that a lot of you here who have what I want, start your days with some form of physical activity.  If that's what it takes, I'm willing. Sore, but willing!

  • folo-up emails to dg, centmass

re: hobbling

Exercise really is a great mood-improver, but injuries suck . . . !

kromer 9:50 CI

Just had big mtg w/ my prof yesterday, so today's a little more relaxed. I still want to make progress on my projects though.

Scheduled: Animal orientation 2-?

MITs:
*Send email about TAing!
*Figure out how to contact MG's lab about VAD
*Finish dataset summary (need to take notes on a paper and make a table of knockout datasets)
*Write up chem. treatment + irradiation expts (have written up 1/2 chm. treatment expts., will finish writing up chem. expts next)
*Find expr. pattern of Dazl in adult (I've printed 2 papers with this information, I just need to read them)
*Read protocols+handbook, send email for username/pwd, send email about facility tour (working on this now)
*Send emails about after-hours access
*Spend 1 hr organizing papers in my room (will do this after work)

Other tasks:
*Write up QC+expr compendium
*Finish sig. analysis
*Email about student seminar
*Organize computer files on lab computer
*Deal w/ 300 emails
*Organize DG lab papers

Breaks: Call AG, email RH, maybe get tickets

I'll start by sending the email about TAing and emails about after-hours access, then I'll write up chem treatment and irradiation expts, then I'll do animal training stuff. At lunch, I'll ask about how to contact MG.

Update 12:50--most of lab went out to lunch, so I didn't get a chance to ask how to contact MG...I'll do this after animal orientation this afternoon. Right now, I'm going to finish reading animal protocols.

Update 3:50--finished reading protocols, went to orientation, now I'm going to take notes from orientation, go through 50 pgs of handbook, ask about how to contact MG's lab, then check back.

Update 6:15--went through handbook (and took quiz on it), asked how to contact MG (I should go through my boss), had dinner at floor picnic, now I'm going to finish writing up the chem treatment/irradiation expts.

I am making improvements - realize i perform best when FORCED by deadline - not the best, but hopeful it will get better!

Quoting someone that recently posted "too busy to procrastinate" that is totally me this week - but I know that I wouldn't be half as busy or at least could be busy on more future oriented promotional things if I hadn't already not been busy and procrastinated! Progress not perfection

Praying to meet this HUGE deadline and not self-sabotage doors God is opening for me!

Happy overcoming all :)

re: forced by deadline

Yes, me too!   I'm trying to learn to create my own deadlines but there is just not the same amount of pressure as the external deadlines.
