pro's CI - 9:30am

It's an amazingly beautiful day and we haven't had a lot of them, so I'm going to pause at 5pm (an hour early), take a bike ride, then spend an hour working on the PayPal notification backlog in the evening. It's fairly mindless and I can do it while watching TV.

Todayfirst CI 8:25 AM CI

Ok, my timer just went off as I've been sitting and reading, so I'll make this quick. I took yesterday afternoon off as I was quite sick but I'm feeling a bit better today.

todo:
- Source control task 1
- Source control task 2
- Check/update calendar
- Program 30 min
- Relax 10 min
- Program 30 min
- Relax 10 min
- repeat...

glad you took care of yourself

I remember you said you were working, though sick, so you could save your sick days to take care of your child. You need to take care of yourself, too!

pro's CI - 8:15am

I decided to eat breakfast before showering again. In the past this has caused me to endlessly procrastinate on showering, but if I stick to the morning routine maybe I can do it, and still be ready for work by 9am.

CUOP time limit

Okay, I'm spending too much time catching up on posts now. 20 minutes at a sitting has to be the limit. I want to read all the fascinating information Normy took the time to post about the Dale Carnegie book, but that will have to be my reward for doing some work.

For now, onto my morning routine!!

eating frogs?

Huh? :?

I guess that's a reference to the book Milo mentioned, but I haven't read it. It evokes an unpleasant image. :O

Frogs

LOL, yes it is a reference to that book (not read it myself). I don't ~really~ eat frogs - I'm veggie :)

Norm's 10.30 am BE

Grrr! Major problems with PC mean that I'm having real difficulty getting applications to open. I'm not savvy enough to fix this myself so I rang DSO (who fixes other people's PCs as a hobby) and said if he didn't fix mine I was going to get rid of it - this was my birthday present from him last year, and it is the worst PC I have ever had. I started the day off very positive and I'm rapidly degenerating, so I want to stop the rot before it gets out of hand, so I'm going to spend 10 mins CUOP before I move on. I've spent 1.5 hours on homework (I was aiming for 1 hr) and I've got almost nowhere. Grrr again.

And I've forgotten to go and copy my list again. Hang on....here it is:

Actually, it does help re-posting the list. I do tend to forget things if I don't recap them often. It helps keep me focussed.

OK, I've got 2 mins 37 left to have a look at other posts!

I need the lists or I forget everything

I have a memory like a sieve for stuff like this (and photographic for other stuff - it's bizarre). I spent 20 minutes or so making up the list in the morning, and then I copy it from one check-in to the next because I'd never remember it otherwise. (I guess it's obvious I copy it because sometimes I forget to delete the commentary from the previous list.)

It's the same with my morning and evening routines, actually. If I wasn't usually a copied list, I'd never take my pills. I always forget that.

Norm's 9am BE

*MR nearly done - just waiting for laundry to finish - I want to get it on the line as early as poss 'cause it's just 15C and wind 5m/s. Some of yesterday's is still out there trying to get dry! The rest is folded and put away.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I must remember to copy my list ~before~ I bookend, LOL! I ~do~ remember my next one is homework. Don't wanna do it, so I'm going to use the Grit Your Teeth and Just Bloody Get it Done technique.

Here goes...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

the "grit your teeth" approach

Many times in the last week, that's how I've had to get myself to do stuff. I didn't wanna do it, I wasn't gonna do it, I was thinking of a million other things I wanted to instead, but I'd just force myself to make a start and then I'd do it.

For me, the "grit your teeth" approach requires that I break the start into tiny baby steps and force those out of myself. Once I've taken the baby steps, I'll generally do the rest.

Love the picture, by the way - it's perfect. :)

Milo's CI 5pm (last for the day)

Morning! Payroll day for me today. And I'm at my worst on payroll days so I'm doing a proper list today to stay accountable.

Ta da:
- had a meeting
- fixed a problem
- worked on job F and progressed it a bit
- got job B ready to test (yippee!!!!)
- completed (yay!) 1 of the 2 jobs logged last week I wanted to complete (have decided the other can wait, am being lazy }:))
- CUOP
- started job E (almost finished it, actually!!! It's ready to test!)
- made a (teeny tiny) start on job A
- chased up documents sent out for review
- made final change to job C (woo hoo!)
- got some fresh air and good food with some work friends I hadn't chatted to for a while, which was nice. They always make me smile :)

To do:
- complete all jobs that were logged last week or earlier that I am not relying on other people for (1 left)
- email/ring/sms DSIL and see if she'll babysit so I can have a date with DH tonight or tomorrow night (we need it!)
- create new page on intranet as requested (job D)

Didn't get thost other things done but I'm not fussed because I made great progress today. Even with all the time I spent CUOP, I still got more done than I would normally get done in 2 days because I was accountable. Even if noone reads my list!!!! I really churned through the work and am proud of myself. Now next week I won't be too overwhelmed.

Tonight I'm not even going in my office. It's too late to get a babysitter now (forgot to call DSIL) for tonight but we have a DVD to watch and I want to just do that and nothing else tonight!!

checking in and accountability

It works the same way for me. On weekends, I'm usually just talking to myself, but it still makes a big difference when I write it down. It makes me accountable somehow.

Congratulations on getting so much done!! :)

I read them!

I read them when I'm here anyway - I've decided not to try to CUOP Bookends from days when I'm absent because I was spending more time CUOP than I was doing things!

I'm interested in how you enumerate your jobs, do you label them A-Z as they come in? Are you starting 'A' almost finishing 'E' because your old 'A' was finished? Do you find it helps having them listed by letter or is it just for convenience for bookending? (I was thinking that if the jobs are logged and dated it might help you keep track of how long they take, and make sure none gets left out - and you have mentioned logging). Do tell! We might be able to pick up some ideas we can transfer to our own 'systems'!

Just being cagey

I have job log numbers, and I usually describe them to myself by the requestor and the nature of the job. I assigned them letters purely for the purpose of the check in, to keep it vague and give minimal detail.

Just being cloak'n'dagger 8)

job A, job B, client 1, client 2

I do that in check-ins, too.

Normy's 7am BE

Milo, and Sweet Dreams to Slider and Pro.

I'm continuing with my big fat list, and today I've got the first few in order (I didn't seem to be able to do that yesterday!). My biggest frog to eat this morning is my homework, not because it's most difficult (because it isn't) but, well, just because I donwanna I guess. When that's done I'll feel like I'll have made significant progress already! I'm also ostensibly having a leaving do today, but I suspect it'll just be me and DSO, so I need to decide on transport by 11 am, and get there for noon, but that's the only time-specific thing today.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*Morning caffeine

That's enough - if I achieve all that I will be happy, and it's achieveable.

Good luck!

List looks reasonable. Hope you can stay on target. I'm procrastinating about my CI right now!!!!

good morning, Milo! (it's evening here, of course)

What do you mean by "payroll day"? Do you have people on your payroll?

Morning!

It's a Flylady term. It just means work, really. In my case I work for myself as well as have a job with an employee. I call it my payroll job.

job with an employee?

You mean, YOU are the employee? I guess I don't really have to know what you mean, but I'm confused.

Duffa....

Oops, I'm silly - yes, employeR.
