Dear Santa, hoping you are well. Would love a new dog dish and a blanket just like the one Linus has. A new deck would also be handy as the roof is a little uncomfortable. My best to Dancer and Blitzen and all the rest.... love, Snoopy

Mollie's 12:45am Check-out

I did as much billing as I could stand. And my desk is still cleared off -- no piles. :-) That is a good thing. Time for bed.

pro's CI - 6:15pm

When you work at home, there can be no end to the work day. I can work straight through from when I get up to when I go to sleep, and that's not healthy.

I didn't go out today because of the weather, and I don't really feel like going out today. I don't know what it's doing outside now, but earlier it was snowing and then sleeting. Maybe I should go out and get to a meeting. I didn't go to one yesterday, and I didn't pick up my mail.

No... it's still sleeting. I hear it on the skylight. I'm not going out tonight. It's nice and warm in here - I don't feel like being cold and wet. Maybe I can dance around the apartment a bit later for exercise.

So what did I do today? I want to list it because I feel like I didn't do anything, and that's not true. I've been doing something all day. So what is it? Here's a list:

  • Installed 64-bit versions of a development tool I need for work I'm contracted to do. This involved some research to solve a problem.
  • Installed some other development software that I may switch to from Dreamweaver - looked through the package to see if it was adequate.
  • Did some reading on a technology related to work I'm contracted to do. I didn't get into the weeds, but I got an overview of what's what.
  • Resolved a problem in Vista - identified a bug and posted about it on the Microsoft forum.
  • Installed the Silverlight component of VS2008 and looked at that a little bit.
  • Read part of a book on technology that I need to know for various work I'm doing.
  • Made myself a very nice lunch of catfish, rice, and spinach with mushrooms and garlic. (Also got dressed today, though I didn't make the bed.)

I think that's about it. Doesn't seem like much - or like enough. I'll keep working through the evening - need a break though.

Did I do enough today? Maybe I should start logging my time - make sure I'm not doing a lot of fooling around without realizing it. I do jump from thing to thing a lot, but I'm not sure that's such a bad thing - might just be my style.

I'm going to do some stretching - modest exercise - while I listen to the rest of the news.

struggling with software

I'm starting to realize what's taking me so long today. I'm trying to get this software to do what I want, and I can't figure out how to make this happen. Maybe it's not configurable enough for me and I can't use it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried.
more frustration
I installed IIS and it was fine. I uninstalled it. I reinstalled it. And now I can't access IIS administration - link is missing. Another Vista bug.
This is so frustrating. Every time something like this happens, I lose hours.
Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried.
techno confusion
Configuring Web servers is not my great strength. I've done it before, but my knowledge is shallow. Struggling here...
I'm posting this so I can see how I'm spending my time - where the time is going.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried.

onto the next problem...

Now the Web server is configured correctly and works, but Expressions Web does not preview code correctly. Now I have to research that to figure out why.

Every single thing I try to do is blocked by a problem that I hvae to research to overcome. No wonder I'm crawling along! I just have to make sure I don't completely lose sight of my goal and get stuck trying to figure out something that doesn't matter. That's the big danger to me. I already let go of trying to understand "Application Pools". That's good - I don't need to know this right now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
okay, found it
Geesh. The first time around, the console was selected automatically. On reinstall, it isn't. This is what I've been doing all day. I can't blame myself. Eventually I'll get traction and start to make progress.
got it to do what I wanted
I was just trying to get a Web design program to open the files for my Web site. Got it (finally). They make it so hard! Will continue to look at this.
Learning is not instant. If I knew all this software, then I could get more done.
Recycler CI 6:05pm EST
Hi Snoopy & Pro Buddies!
During the week, probably Friday after 5pm is the best I feel all week :) Yay, Friday! :)
Went to the gym this morning; showered & got dressed for work. Had time to do a little more on a display I am setting up at my new condo.
At work I did my deadline projects. Had only a couple projects other than that, so I went through some paper piles on my desk. (I saved one of the paper piles for next week, in case I need something to do then ;) Signed up for continuing education course in January.
After work, brought a few more things to new condo. Needed to do my CI so came over to rental condo. Ate snack for dinner. Next: decide what to carry over to new condo. Try to buy 1-2 books for Dad before 12-step meeting tonight.
Have a great night, everyone! :)
Recycler
Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)
Mollie's 5:55pm CI
I took my break, id'd tasks for SM, called re: LB, printed D1000 and I just finished printing ev, which is very, very long, but I printed it, hole-punched it & put it in a looseleaf. This will save me $100+ as I won't have to buy the book, which I need for my business. So it's worth it. And almost finished. :-) Gonna spend the next few minutes tidying my desk and winding down for the day. I need to do billing later, but not til after I put the baby to bed.
Mollie's 3:30pm CI
I had lunch, finished dealing with everything in the folder on top of the computer monitor, did a few minutes of vacuuming, found some papers I'd been looking for, and went to the post office. I just looked at my to do list for today, and I don't feel like doing anything that's on it. So I'm going to take a little break & then identify tasks for SM, call re: LB, print D1000 & ev. (Other than taking a break, those things are all on the list. :-) )
journey 3 pm
Haven't been able to get into chatbox so far.  I'll try again in a few minutes.
Went to the party and the meeting.  made some progress on Task E.  I need to track down the boss before he leaves today and ask him about project ids for next year.  When I track him down and finish Task E, I'll go home!
Mollie's 12:15pm CI
I did the claim form, I made the phone call about the phone bill, and I'm working on going through the file on top of the monitor, but it turned out to require a lot of work, so I'm still at it. Going to take a lunch break & then finish up.
pro's first check-in - 10am (heading to chatbox)
I got up at 7:30am, which is pretty good. I've been doing a little configuration of my new computer - this time setting up a package that I need for an article I've been assigned to write. I already have it running on my old computer, but I'd rather do this on the new computer because it's so much faster.
I'm not dressed yet, and the bed is not yet made. Need to do this. Heading to the chatbox - hope I have company today!
Mollie 9:55am CI
Good Morning all!
I'm feeling kind of disorganized and at a loss as to where to start. Too many possibilities. So, gotta pick something. I'm gonna finish a health insurance claim, call about a mistake on a phone bill, & clear out the file on top of my computer monitor.
Isabella 9:39AM CI
Good Morning!
The tasks for today AM:
1. LI C
2. Desk
3. Email J's
4. Read
Journey 9:15
Good morning!  Today we are having our Department Holiday Party, following by the monthly group meeting.  It's also my last day of work before a week of vacation.  I don't expect to get a lot of work done today, but I want to finish Task E today.   I'm kind of in the middle of it and if I leave it for a week, there will be a long ramp up time to get back to where I am now.   So my goals for today are to:
  • Complete a successful test of E and document it
  • Have fun at the party
GeorgeSmiley 7:45 AM; 6 PM
A snowy good morning to you...
The kids have no school today (snow day) and even Mrs. GS is stuck home from work because her office closed -- a good thing, as she sure as heck wasn't going to drive to work in this weather and I didn't really want to have to take our lives in our hands driving her to the train station.
I do need to work on Project V today, but I also am going to use some of this morning as "found time" -- my office needs a major cleaning/organizing, as it has been overtaken by No. 2 son's stuff that he was cleaning out of his room to get rid of.
I might check into chatbox later, but for now I'm not going to be using the puter much anyway--other than to make a couple of random lists if needed, and for background music/other from you tube and NPR...
Update, 6 PM
Did some laundry today, and got the floor of my office just about emptied. There are several boxes of stuff to be sorted yet, but they're out of the way. I'm going to try over the next few weeks to spend a 15-30 minute period each day nibbling away at the sorting that needs to be done.
Didn't do any work on project V, but I'll do some tomorrow.
Time to sign off for the day.
