pro's check-out - 11:10pm

My teeth and brushed and I'm in my jammies. Time to get into bed. I'll be back tomorrow! My two top priority items are:

1. Send check and letter to accountant.
2. Work on x (unnamed thing that I almost did today).

I may work on the rest of the pile some more, but probably will just work on x.

pro's CI - 11pm (time to get ready for bed!)

Time to brush my teeth and get ready for bed. I don't want to procrastinate on bedtime. That's a weakness of mine, and it screws up the whole next day. If I can't get up early, nothing goes right.

So off to brush my teeth now. I'll check in again when I'm ready for bed.

pro's CI - 9:30pm (dishes washed)

Dishes are washed. If I'm going to start cooking at home, I need to wear gloves when I do dishes. My skin gets very dry.

It's very nice to be sitting in a fairly neat apartment, having just enjoyed a delicious, home-cooked meal. Now I can watch news or whatever until teeth-brushing and bed time.

 kudos to you!

Having been single at various times in my life, I know the challenges of having to fend for yourself without falling back on "outsourcing" of all kinds, meals especially, and how living alone can lead one to ease up on the tasks of daily living...

hard to make the effort when it's just for you

Self-care requires self-esteem. Or is it vice versa - that self-esteem comes from self-care? I'm not sure!

In any case, I'm more likely to clean my apartment if someone is coming over than jsut for me, and more likely to make a meal if for someone else as well. Doing it for me... Well, self-care is a healthy thing. I am trying! :)

pro's CI - 9pm (a lovely dinner!)

I made a really nice dinner! I had scallops (which I found in the freezer - bought them at the farmer's market over the summer), a salad of raw veggies but no lettuce (had no lettuce) and some steamed peas. Yum! The scallops were cooked perfectly - just lucky, I guess.

Now I have to wash the dishes - that's one of the downsides of cooking, but a minor downside.

Hey - it's a full moon tonight. I probably ruined the day of the ex-partner I made amends to in email today.

Journey 6 pm Chatting is good!

This has been a good day . . .I used the chatbox again and it's really nice.  It's almost like working side by side with kind and supportive coworkers.    They are friendly and fun, but also hold you accountable for keeping on task!

Agreed - the chatbox is super helpful!

I totally agree!! I find the chatbox to be a huge help during the workday. It keeps me on track in a way that nothing else does. Like you, it makes me feel like I'm working alongside of companions, and that makes all the difference. I'm held accountable, I'm cheered on, and I'm not so lonely and frightened with my piles.

Agreed...

I've seen it there for months but not used it until this week, and I've found it helpful. Thanks to you and other chat-mates for being there and encouraging each of us on!

Recycler CI 4:55pm EST

Hi Pro Buddies!

Thanks, tiptree, for the cute threadstarter.

Stretched & did routine at gym this morning. Showered & got dressed for work. Rode train in this morning. Had special treat: breakfast at coffee shop, which I don't usually get to do :)

Did deadline projects this morning. Typed up end of year evaluation & made photocopies. Updated job description and made photocopies.

Next: after work, ride train home. After friend gets off from work, pick them up. Put gas in car & go to 12-step meeting. (I'm not sure if they expect me to take them home after the meeting, or if someone else will give them a ride home).

I've got lots of bizarre, swirling things that I need to do. However, giving my friend a ride, & going to the meeting are the mit's, so that's all I'm going to plan.

Have a great night, everyone! :)

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

Journey 2 pm

Well, today I don't seem to be able to get into chat from work.   Maybe that was a temporary fluke!  Too bad, me likey da chat.

Anyway, I am still working on MIT #1.  Had a supposedly one hour meeting at 11 that ran over 2 hours!  Had lunch, and back to work on MIT #1.   I should be finished with it in the next half hour.  I'll try to get into chat again too.

Hope you guys have been doing well. Haven't used p-a.org in a couple weeks (again, partly to reduce my web distractions) though I almost always find it helpful. Need to stick to these today/now:

MIT #1: [~Done, brief draft] -- Write NV appl statement (microburst, 10 min at time, whatever) to get to a complete draft. Don’t keep trying to research, improve it.

MIT #2: -- Fill out, write other parts of nv appl.

MIT #3: -- Pull out humc vol appl file, complete if possible, decide next action.

MIT #4: -- Write brief email letter to s.g. on poss help w uvm/ep , email her ed rec. and 2 emails.

Thanks

All our new people are getting 2 kno each other. That makes me so happy!

I like the idea of checking-in for every thing. I need it for everything, that's for sure. I have an opportunity to do that today.

pro's CI - 10am (heading to chatbox)

The bed is made, dishes washed, and table unfolded. Here's the plan for today:

- Work on the pile, particularly pay my accountant and write him a letter.
- Go to grocery store and drug store.
- Get box for mailing back item I'm returning.
- Go through E tutorials.
- Start to look at X (plan).

I'm going to the chatbox again today. That's been working very well for me.

e on Friday

I am feeling a lot better today, partly because I made that yucky phone call, and mostly because I went to three 12 step meetings in a row last night. It is absolutely raw here this morning, so I gave my son a ride to school. Between the rain and the cold I want to crawl back into bed, but I think I will try putting on a sweater and getting some short tasks done. I want to apply for a particular job that I think would be a good fit today, so I would like to be in here for a lot of the day.

For now, something warm to drink....

now back from my making coffee break. I have not had any for a while and want to see if it has any ill effect on me.... in the meantime I made a deal with myself to deal with the dishes until the coffee was brewed, so much of that is out of the way. Dishes do seem to be a very large part of my life these days...The good part about not having a dishwasher is that it warms up your hands. The bad part is everything else. I am going to drink my coffee and check email and then spend a few minutes organizing the dining room table which is beginning to look like a procrastinator might live near it....

Journey 9 am

Happy Friday everyone!  Thanks for the cute pic Tiptree.

I'm back in the office today.   I like working from home, but I was getting cabin fever, so I'm glad to be here today.  The weather is better too, which lifts my spirits.  We need the rain but man, is it depressing.

I've been to the gym, set mits and made my plan for the day.  Now coffee, and put in my contacts and put a bit of makeup.   Then on to MIT #1.

pro's CI - 9am

I had to go out and buy coffee. They shorted me, as usual (15.2 oz for a pound). This place doesn't have a scale, but it's close and I didn't feel like walking around.

I'm trying decide among projects today. I'm going to make a list, set priorities, and get going. I'm dressed, but the bed isn't made.

kromer 8:30 CI

I've had a couple days of frustration, feeling like I'm working hard without really getting anything done. I'm just going to take a deep breath and tell myself it's OK--I'm working in a new lab, using tools I've never used before, it's OK if I go slowly and make some mistakes, it's just important that I keep moving forward.

With that in mind:

Yesterday I finished tracking cells, which was a big task that I'm really happy to be done with.

Today I have a mtg w/ NM at 1--meetings with professors really stress me out, and now I'm up to 2-3 per week Tongue out

Scheduled:
*mtg 1 pm
*youth group 5:30-8:30
*housewarming party 9:45-10:45

MITs (before mtg):
*Make and look at plots before the mtg.
*Take notes from prev. mtg w/NM

MITs (after mtg):
*Check interactome, start runs w/ higher cap
*Go to gym
*Call RH, email DP, call AG, call CV

Other tasks:
*Start new scans
*Start Fourier anal. of plots
*Look over CJ's thesis committee presentation
*Read thru 2 probability lectures

Going to make lunch and go to lab now, then I'll work on making plots.

Update 9:45--Don't know how I'm so slow this morning, but I'm *finally* in lab (I think I need to try time logging for a few more days, so I can figure out where all this time goes). Now going to figure out how to combine data so I can make plots.

kromer 11:35 CI

My focus today is pretty awful.

That said, so far I've figured out how to combine data, made some simple plots of my data, talked to CJ about sensible ways of analyzing data, contacted AG & CV & DP  (and set up a mtg w/ DP for 5 today), had lunch, and started taking notes from mtg w/ NM. So the morning isn't a total waste.

Right now I'm going to finish taking notes from mtg w/ NM and take notes about my discussion w/ CJ. That should take 15-20 min. Then, I'll spend an hour looking over my data, then meet w/ NM, then call RH. After taking w/ RH, I'll go to the gym.

Since I'm having such an awful time focusing, I'll try working in the chatbox.

kromer 1:45 CI

Today is looking up! I took notes from the mtgs w/ NM and CJ, then looked over my data and made some plots, then met w/ NM. I looked for RH on Skype, but she's not on now, so I'll just stay signed in which I work on other stuff on my computer. I'm going to take notes from today's mtg and come up with a plan of attack for going forward with this project. Then, I'll spend about 30 min prepping for today's mtg w/ DP (this is an unexpected mtg, but important, so I want to be well prepared), and send TH a text letting him know that I'll be a little late for youth group today.

Then, if I still haven't managed to connect w/ RH, I'll check over interactome and start new runs on it. If I still have  more time, I'll start studying probability.

Once I've talked to RH, I'll head to the gym.

kromer 12 CO

I took notes from mtg, talked to RH, went to gym (ran only 2 miles, but it's a start--haven't gotten much exercise in a while), prepped for and went to mtg w/ DP, went to youth group, wasted an hour or so afterwards, then went to CY's party. So I didn't complete one of my MITs, but it was an OK day.

Going to log my spending and eating for the day (first steps in getting my budget and my diet under control...), then I'll go to bed. CI by 7 am tomorrow--I'm spending most of tomorrow with a visiting friend, so I want to get some work done in the morning.

GeorgeSmiley 7:20 AM + Updates

In my office for about 5 minutes. Read a passage of Thich Nhat Hanh and spent some quiet reflection time.

My current Outlook Task Pad is very long. Interestingly, that is not stressing me out like it sometimes does. My first task this time every Friday morning is to do the weekly overview of all my tasks. Because I want to leave for a weekly breakfast date with friends in 1 hour, this is a good time for that task--it puts a time limit on it.

I'll check in before I leave, and after I return.

MIT#1: Weekly overview Finished 8:20

Update 8:20 AM: Off to breakfast.

Update 12:50 PM: I've been back since about 11:15 or so. Doing a lot of admin tasks -- stuff that needed doing.

MIT#2: Draft Project S

I'm going to hang out in Chatbox to help keep me going on it.

Update 3:30 PM

Progress on MIT#2. Need to shift gears while it's still early and work on MIT#3

MIT#3: Calls for Project L

Update 9:30 PM

After I got some calls made on MIT#3, I had to quit early for the day to be with my younger son, who was having homework trouble. (That didn't get any better, alas.)

I came back down to my basement office a bit before 8 and worked on MIT#2. Made a lot of progress and decided after a little more than an hour that I could stop there and resume, fresher, tomorrow. I usually don't like to work on Weekends, but this time it will be necessary and OK.

Then I got all sorts of small but necessary administrative tasks knocked off.

Feels good...

Good night, all...
