Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
part of the will wants to do the task, get things done on time; another part digs in its heels, says it's too hard, I can't, I don't want to, or all sorts of subconscious messages of resistance.
A battle of the will is very hard to heal: I think it just escalates: more pushing and ought and self-punishing, more resistance in return. And then the inner battle uses up lots of energy.
I begin to see the point of HP, and trying to get away from ego ('help me do the next right thing'), and to feel that that way of facing myself, the world, and facing tasks really offers more than just a glimmer of hope; so far it has brought me even the experience of moments of change, moments when the things I have to do are the things I want to do and the tasks become light...Just moments of that for now for me, but I am looking forward to more of them.
"Recovery from procrastination means doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it."
Yes, thank you, Convalaria. (And those who have replied). You comment "I begin to see the point of HP ... " resonates with the way I have been thinking/feeling about this. I think this will help me ... Thank you, drun
Thank you for the useful information Convalaria... It is good to have people who can help you... Thanks again...

yeah, that does ring true for me. I'm not sure if this is a place to keep your own thots or you want discussion in here, so i won't clutter it up too much.
Just, i think this is a beautiful post. It captures succinctly what a lot of us feel, from what i read here. And how the release from ego allows you moments of victory? that's just beautiful. I pray that your recovery will continue and increase, convalaria.
Mani-pedis, massages, facials, $20-limit shopping sprees at secondhand stores and garage sales, guilt-free brainless relaxing in my backyard swing, taking the dog on a long unleashed hike in the woods, brushing the cat 100 strokes, playing around online (this one gets away from me sometimes...), reading useless books, reading useful books, going to interesting-looking places that I drive by all the time but never have time to explore, going to the zoo, sitting by water anyplace, chasing down scripture footnotes and journaling my thoughts
"Recovery from procrastination means doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it."
Addiction and compulsion are about escaping the present moment - not being present in your life, not experiencing the reality of your life.
Procrastinators do not have a problem with time management. They have a problem with compulsive avoidance.
Procrastinators are short-term thinkers, focusing on short-term pleasure while ignoring long-term well-being.
Free will is what you lose when you are in the grip of a compulsive behavior or addiction. The very definition of addiction is loss of the ability to choose.

Thanks convalaria--these useful quotes have really helped me in the last two days. Especially 'doing what you say you are going to do'--I realize how different I feel when I keep my own small promises to myself.

Hmmm... yes...
The division you talk about rings very true for me.
Thank you for the insight...
