Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God.

Recycler CI 6:15pm EST

Hi Pro Buddies!

To me, it's a helpful reminder: the "care of God." Thank you, Ritva! Thank you, HP! :)

Today: walked to gym, elliptical, stretching, positive meeting with boss, emails, comprehensively updated work Project List, did deadline MITS. Phone call from a friend. Rode train home. Checked on-line groups.

Tonight: my Other support group. Get a snack on the way to the meeting.

Have a great night, everyone! :)

Recycler

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

drun5 CI, 3:15pm EDT (more modest)

Well, I didn’t follow through with my 4pm CI on Sat, only made some progress on MIT #2 (discouraged), so I’ll take smaller steps and go with this CI for this afternoon, and hope for progress (!).

MIT #1: Done --Revise my CI to fewer tasks and post to pa.
MIT#2: --Type in handwritten text for em/letter to LD; --update; ask for ref.; --will em more w/cv; --confirm em.
MIT#3: --lunch
MIT#4: --Reg for acls in sept.
Next check in at 5pm; keep it simple and just do your best with the time you have.

drun5 5:30pm EDT, CI update

Well, it might not look like much progress, but for me now it is; I feel a bit better.

MIT#2: 2.1: [Done] --Type in handwritten text for em/letter to LD;
2.2: [Done draft, &final in progress] --update; ask for ref.; --will em more w/cv; --confirm em.

MIT#3: [Done] --lunch.

Thanks, and keep going you guys! David (I probably need to revise/imporve my user name?)

Congrats!

*Any* progress on MIT's is a triumph...great job setting realistic goals and making progress towards them!

Thanks and Good Luck

Thank you, kromer, really. and best in all the tasks needed involved in starting grad school (not to pry here); I've been through it, the begining of an exciting time.

cl ci

another nice thread starter. The graphics are nice, sure, but for myself i'm totally fine with text, especially inspirational text like this.

i'm bookending reading this site, because after a productive morning i've stalled... 2:38pm

that took 5 min. It encouraged me, as it almost always does. Now time for a quiet time. It's 2:44.

Thanks for encouraging, clement. Starting threads  is not so difficult for me any more.

GeorgeSmiley CI 9:08 AM

Good morning, all...

Today I'm working all day in the offices of Client M. I'll be spending the whole day on projects related to that client.

I've brought along a list of tasks today. 23 items on it. Many are quick (call persons x, y, z) and others are not.

Being away from my home office often tends to worsen my inclination to procrastinate. But I need to be especially focused today.

MIT#1: Make a series of phone calls from my list.

MIT#2: Try to get a handle on project R.

MIT#3: After my lunch, use time in the afternoon to fully distill the interview from lunch while it's fresh.

GS 1:16 PM

I made a total of 7 calls out -- one third of the items on that To-Do list. :-)

I read through all of the notes I have already on Project R and still feel stuck on it.

I had a good lunch interview and will focus first this afternoon on distilling the details of that.

I'll check in again either when I've completed the latter task or when I find myself adrift...

2:50 PM; updated 3:30 PM

I've made progress transcribing that lunchtime interview. I'm about 30 minutes into the 45 minute interview (transcription probably takes about twice the time of the interview. I often don't transcribe in toto but this is one that I felt a need to do that with).

I made a deliberate decision to interrupt and do this, thinking about the discussion on "Time Bingeing" before.

I'm going to do one thing recreational then return to finish the job.

I'm back. Here's the really good thing: I actually returned to the job as I said I would, and finished it, after my short break.

I've got 90 minutes left in the day. I've got a bunch of phone inquiries out and virtually no responses. Once again it sets the stage for dithering.

I'm going to walk around the block then return and see what to do next.

4:20 PM

That walk around the block was a little longer than I'd planned... but it also was a good thing.

I remembered that I'm just across the street from a favorite boutique. It was a perfect opportunity for me to get an anniversary card and a small present for Mrs. GS. Our anniversary is in less than 10 days.

Often I don't think of such things until so close to the last minute I'm scrambling. What a good feeling to have that done.

I'm going to take the rest of the day to think over Project R again and see if I can get a handle on what the story is there that I'm trying to tell...

CI for Lark at 9:19am

Hi everyone. Lots of stuff to be done today, and it can't all be done today, so this morning is devoted to one main task and a few loose ends. Perhaps one of the "ends" will evolve into a productive afternoon.
To do:
(X)morning things
(X)spiritual time
(X)finish task A
(X)paint other side of door
(X)call client who owes me money
tidy kitchen
(5 min.)put things away in workshop for 15 minutes
(X)loose ends: one, two, three, four
(X)check in this afternoon

kromer 9 CI

I feel like I have an overwhelming number of tasks to do today, and as a result I've been doing nothing this morning. So my first task is to come up with a manageable to-do list for the day and check back in.

Update 9:05--today I need to deal with 3 types of tasks: moving prep, grad school prep, work wrap-up. I also hav a few misc. tasks.

I'll start with misc tasks, just to get them off my plate:
*Thank-you note, email AZ + JO + SC

Then, here are my other tasks:
Moving:
*Email about lease MIT
*Get key from B+CV MIT
*Figure out where to buy a mattress
*Look into joining zipcar
*Organize papers in room

Grad school prep:
*Email about med forms MIT
*Email about WM MIT
*finish sat stuff and email about it MIT
*fix ace2tamo
*30 min who I want to work with
*Read a paper

Work wrap-up:
*1 hr brainstorming how to set paramaters MIT
*journal briefing prep MIT
*get and organize Novartis data
*Try fixing clustering
*document other data sets

After misc. tasks, I'm going to email about WM and med forms, email about lease, email B+CV. Then I'm going to look into where to buy a mattress and how to join zipcar (not MITs, but I think addressing these problems will help me feel calmer about moving). Then I'm going to post the last sat. experiment and head to lab. When I get there I'll spend 1 hr brainstorming how to set parameters.

kromer 11:15 CI

Did misc tasks, sent emails listed above, researched where to buy a matress, posted last expt, now I'm going to pack up, head to lab (eating lunch and mailing thank you note on the way), and spend 1 hr brainstorming how to set parameters. Then I'll prep for journal briefing and check back in.

Update 12:15--in lab, after lunch, mailing thank you and picking up costco card. Now I'm going to gather my materials/scratch paper for brainstorming, then spend 30 min thinking about how to set parameters. Then I'll take a break from that to check my email and do half of journal briefing prep (Genome Research), then I'll spend another 30 min brainstorming/researching, and finally I'll finish journal briefing prep. I'll work in the chatbox, update when each of these subtasks is completed, and check back in with a new plan once I've worked through all these tasks.

Update 1:15--gathered materials, brainstormed for 30 min, took a break and checked my email. Now I'm going to start journal briefing prep, by reviewing lab members' interests and then looking for interesting articles in Genome Research. Should take about 45 min; I'll check back in when I'm done.

Update 3:15--looked for interesting articles in Genome Research and posted summaries of them. There were a lot of interesting articles, so this took *much* longer than planned, but at least I'm done now! I'm going to check my email and phone messages, then go spend another 30 min brainstorming/researching about how to set parameters.

Update 4:30--finished brainstorming (I got on a roll, so I spent about 50 productive minutes on this, and had some breaktime and about 10 min of unintential loss of focus). Now I'm in the home stretch for completing my MIT's--I need to do the other half of journal club prep (looking through the past 2 issues of nature genetics and writing article summaries). That should take 1-2 hours; when I'm done with that, I'll check back in with a plan for the evening, call BVV about key, and take a 30-45 min dinner break.

kromer 5:30 CI

I'm on track to at least finish all my MITs today.

Plan for the evening:
*Organize my lab papers and head out
*Pick up key from BVV, walk home
*Have dinner
*Write summary of sat expts and email TN (this will finish up my MITs)
*Fix ace2tamo
*Document 1 dataset
*Organize papers in my room
*Call ED around 8:30
*Try to fix clustering (incorporate strength of match and pseudocounts and look at the results)

kromer 7:55 CI

Organized lab papers, picked up key, had dinner, took a 30 min break after dinner, now I'm ready to start work again.

I'm going to write summary of sat expts and email TN (15 min), then spend 15 min working on organizing papers, then call ED, then continue organizing papers.

Update 8:15 done with sat expts, yay! Tried ED but she's not home, so I'm going to work on dealing with papers. This is a not-so-fun task, so I'm going to get out my timer and work in 10 min. increments.

Update 9:25 dealt with my papers! I'm going to take a break/get a snack, then try and fix ace2tamo.

kromer 10:50 CI

OK, I fixed ace2tamo, I've run 2 tests, last one is running and then that task will be *done*!.

I'm not going to get through all the tasks on my lists, but I can make some more progress before I go to bed. I'm going to make a little progress on clustering (add match strength to code) and microburst the dataset documentation (pick one dataset, get out folder with papers, go to website for that dataset, make a "readme" file with the data, then stop)

Hey Kromer

Your post is something I've "almost thought", but could never put into words. It's hard to chose what to do, and "gosh if I pick the wrong tasks!". Coming up with a gamplan which doesn't clash, explode or implode can be a daunting task. I've noticed that doing nothing doesn't work, and starting slowly with small tasks seems to help. Thanks for your post, and good luck.

Ritva 9.37 local time

I am already at work and I shall continue project B until I shall
leave and go to town for a meeting. When I come back I shall sort my
papers.

At home I shall make the dinner. After I shall clean the
kitchen. Then I shall start decluttering our living room. And I shall
iron for 15 minutes.

Ritva before going to bed

Hi,

I cleaned the kitchen but I did not iron or start declutering the lliving room. I cannot work any more because my familymembers are sleeping.
