Sunday

              Make yourself happy.

First check-in

Between today and next Sunday, I plan to finish at least one of the major work projects that has been sitting around half-finished for way too long. More than one would be nice, of course, but a minimum of one completed in a week seems like a reasonable and attainable goal.

more things to do. 3rd day in a row of just deciding MITs, selecting ones to do, and doing them. Sometimes i feel like i lose track of myself in the process. I feel i have become a slave to my todo list. But i am not becoming a slave to my todo list, i'm becoming a slave to god--that is Step 3.

This morning i had an unusual experience. I was ready early for church. That in and of itself is unusal--to be ready early for anything. And i consulted my left over MITs from yesterday and selected two short ones i could easly do in the time i had and i did them. I can probably count the times this has happened to me in my entire life on both hands. Maybe just one hand. And i owe it all HiPo who i've surrendered to.

journey 11:30

*Yawn*   I just woke up. I worked until 4 last night, but everything went smoothly.  I'm tired.  I also ate some junk food yesterday which doesn't help either.  Although since I've reduced my dependence on caffeine, I was able to stay up without it which improves my sleep quality a great deal.

I'll have Wednesday off to make up for working the weekend so I can catch up on laundry and stuff then.

The kids are coming over for dinner, so before that I will:

  • do a basic superficial straightening and dusting of the whole downstairs
  • bathe the stinky itchy dog.  the non-stinky dog can wait another week
  • do 1 load of laundry - the rest can wait til Weds.
  • prepare salad and beans, maybe one more side dish, and dessert (fresh blueberry shortcake yum! ) dh is grilling the main dish, thank you sweetie!
  • take one of my breaks sitting in the sun, since I forgot to go to the tanning bed yesterday.   (not just vanity, a small amt. of sun exposure helps my sensitive skin)
  • Take it relatively easy, with lots of breaks, but don't zone out on stuff I really don't want to waste time on.  Haven't needed the timer lately but today is probably a good day to use it.
  • Go to bed early

Enjoy the rest of the weekend y'all!

Falcon CI

Hi all,

I don't have anything I absolutely have to do today, though I have a committment this afternoon & evening.  It's really o.k. whether I do productive stuff or relaxing recreational stuff, as long as I'm engaging in my life and not just wasting time.

It's like what journey & clement were saying in the video games thread. . . I want to make sure I'm doing the recreational stuff I want to do because I want to do it, rather than falling into something apparantly recreational but really avoidant.  Whatever I decide to do, I want to actually decide to do it.

So, here's my "To Don't" list for this morning.  I won't spend this morning surfing the net, reading (unless I consciously choose to read something, rather than just picking up a book or magazine because my eye happened to fall on it) or generally spacing out.

I'm riding out some emotional stuff lately, so if feelings come up I will breathe with them rather than trying to distract myself from them.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Falcon

Net temptation

I'd like to do a little internet surfing, but am afraid I'll find myself still surfing two hours from now, when I should be in bed.

I'm going to set a timer for. . . let's say 20 minutes.  I'll check back in here when it goes off.

Falcon

Falcon CO

Was that 20 minutes already?  Jeez, good thing I set a timer.  Tongue out

Next up: Check email.  Make lunch for tomorrow.  Brush teeth, etc.  Go to bed.

Good night!

Falcon

time flies when you're surfing the internet...

Good job on setting a timer and listening to it!

Become aware of resistance, and let go.

wandering eye

oh man

> ...rather than just picking up a book or magazine because my eye happened to fall on it

this is me, exactly.

I cheer you on, falcon. I need to do the same thing!

re: meeting today

when you say "no obligation to mention if you're coming or not," do you mean we dont have to if we dont want to, but if we want to report our attendence, we can? Or it's actually better if people do not report their attendance or non-attendance?

re: mentioning meeting attendance

My concern would be that if people keep saying whether or not they'll be there, then others might feel they have to report in, too.

I don't want to create a feeling of "obligation".  Many of us suffer from issues with "Demand Resistance", and obligation would just make things worse.

Also, I wanted to make it clear that we don't take attendance.

Each person should come or not come according to their own inner guidance -- i.e. the Higher Power of their understanding.

Those disclaimers aside, in my opinion, it would be no problem if you want to post "I can't make it today" -- if your only intention is to be informative to the others in the meeting room.   That certainly is no big deal!

So, to sum up, I would say, if you are just being "informative", it doesn't matter.  I just don't want people to feel they have to "report in".

Hope that makes sense.

Meering today

Thank you for posting this. The timing is just right for me.

*Study biochem of regulation
*Read up on histones/nucleosomes
*Figure out what statistical test I'd use to look at coreg-gene connections
*Email KM about this work on CBP
*Figure out how stable coreg-TF-gene connections are believed to be

Other tasks:
*Email PS
*Notes from mtg w/ PK
*Study protein translation
*Study FAS/PKS/NRPS
*Study cholesterol
*Go through flashcards
*Feed/split cells
*Clean up papers in room
*Go grocery shopping
*Go laundry
*Church, grad. lunch for friend

kromer 4:25 CI

So, most of the day so far has been errands etc., now I'm settling down to do some "real work"

I've gone to church and to friend's grad lunch, gone shopping, and gone over my flashcards. Next, I'm going to spend 30 min. looking at GO categories for coregulators, then I'm going to spend 15 min and finish reading review article, then I'm going to email KM about his work. After than I'll clean my room, organize my notes, and start my laundry

5:50 update: Going very slowly: I've looked at GO categories for coregulators, and made some progress on the review article. I'm going to get away from the computer for a minute to start my laundry, then I'll come back and finish the review article.

kromer 7:20 CI

OK, finished review articles and looked at GO categories. (Also started my laundry)

Took a REALLY long time, but I think I actually got 1hr 15 minutes of real work done. So, to keep my vow, I need to do at least 45 minutes more work on my project today.

I'm going to email KM and put my laundry in the dryer, then go have some dinner, then look at coregulator expression across tissues, then go to campus and split/feed cells.

kromer 11:55 CI

Emailed KM and PS, dried laundry, had dinner, split/fed cells, made some progress on studying cholesterol (but didn't look at expr. across tissues)

I still have some more work to do on my research project to keep my vow, but I'm to tired to look at expr across tissues, so I'm going to spend 30 min. reading up on histones and call it a night.

kromer 12:35 CO

OK, finished reading about histones and started reading about biochem of gene reg.

I'm going to fold my laundry, write down what I got done today on my research project, take a shower and be in bed by 1.

Kromer - less blue?

Hi Kromer,

Hope you're feeling less blue than yeseterday?  Sounds like you did a great job of hauling yourself up by your bootstraps last night & got some good work done even though you didn't feel like it.  And learned something about yeast, too. Wink

May today be easier!

Falcon

feeling better, thanks

Today has been a whole lot easier than yesterday :)

Edge's CI - 4:10PM

Heya. Things have been a bit crazy on my side and I'm working on finishing my study material before my exams (my first one is tomorrow and the next one is on the 21st), so I haven't alloted much time for the internet or my social life. I've been trying to limit my time around things that distract me the most. I've been semi successful in doing that, but I've also discovered that when all more interesting outlets are not available, a smudge on the opposite wall can suddenly become extremely fascinating.

But I'm working on it :-) I might not be checking in much, but I'm making progress here, even if marginal and at a crawling pace. Will post some other time when I have a break. Hope everyone is alright and doing well.
Hugs :*
