Already started the day

Even though I'm checking in late, I already did a few urgent things today to help solve a crisis with some of my volunteer responsibilities. I helped arrange a presentation for tonight and found out yesterday that we had to move because of a labour dispute. The city sent me an email but with the 100 or so emails I receive everyday I missed it. They did not mark the email as urgent or use the subject line to tell me about the cancellation.

After I arranged another caterer and having our association email everyone to advise them of the change in venues, I found out after the close of business that our guest speaker is having emergency surgery so I had to cancel everything again.

Strange as it seems, I felt energized my doing the work. I spent a long time writing the email to our members to tell them about the cancellation and received an email from one of our executive telling me that the email was exactly the right tone given the sensitive situation.Smile

I attended a support group for people with depression and anxiety last night and felt much better after. I feel ready to tackle the day.

I slept in for only 45 minutes today, rather than 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Because of getting up late I'm not ready for bed until well after midnight, so by tomorrow I should have my sleep cycle back to normal.

I'm proud I did not start the day by looking at my favourite news aggregate site or checking MLB as that's one of my downfalls. I can look at them sometime tonight.

To dos for today

  • email Steve
  • Apply to any job that has a deadline by tomorrow.
  • Draft direct mail letter (review on the weekend when my eyes are fresh)
  • Confirm contact names for 10 organizations to send the letter to.
  • Go for 1 hour walk.
  • Do 3 weeks of laundry (yikes!)
  • Wash one load of dishes
  • Don't turn on the TV or go to any non-work related websites until after 9 pm. Turn TV off at 11 pm. Don't watch TV for the sake of watching it. If there's nothing good on, don't watch it.
  • Spend one hour on social media in terms of using SM to find work and make at least one post to Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.
  • Call friends Marian & Sheryl
  • Bookend tasks
  • Keep a time log
  • Read one chapter on book about recovering from depression
  • Contact agency to find help dealing with my problems
  • Send invoice to deadbeat client
  • Check in PA at least twice

I had a really hard time getting out of bed this morning, with the result that I'm 2 hours late to work. Yuck!

Oh well, I can work well in the time I'm here. I need to:
*Check on/manage expts
*Email MK, JW, JS (will do this soon)
*Make a plan for the week and a long-term plan for mei. project
*Finish counting sample, make change to manuscript and email DP (working on this now)
*Ask about R8 and S8 antibodies, pick up histology and write out staining plans (working on this now)
*Clean up bench (started)
*Collect sample
*Re-order probes, order m. for refractory project. (will do this soon)

*Easter lily stuff

OK, I'm going to start with counting. Then I'll do emails. Then I'll do expts and cleaning and orders.

11am and I haven't done anything useful yet.  Spent some time on a bereavement support forum, and have managed to get through another bout of crying.

I'm going to have to divide my work up into very small chunks, and take Agnus's idea of just concentrating for 5 minutes.

  • clear in-tray
  • clear backlog tray
  • file letters
  • lunch
  • write a report
  • prescription
