Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
Acceptance from p. 449 ofAlcoholics Anonymous, the Big Book of AAAnd acceptance is the answer toallmy problems today.When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation--some fact of my life--unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.
OK, I've checked on expts, done volunteer tax prep and had a reasonably healthy lunch.
I've feeling kind of burnt out but I have a lot left to do today.
In particular, I really need to
->send out mp list
->finish nat/sci, start cell
->work on other parsers
->email
->image slides
->1 hr exercise (probably a walk)
Friends have invited me to a party tonight, but I think I might need some quiet time for myself. I'll take the evening off, in any case.
One has to grow up with good talk in order to form the habit of it.
—Helen Hayes
Our habits, whatever they may be, were greatly influenced, if not wholly
formed, during childhood. We learned our behavior through imitation
-- imitation of our parents, our siblings, our peer group. But we need
not be stuck in habits that are unhealthy. The choice to create new
patterns of behavior is ours to make--every moment, every hour, every
day. However, parting with the old pattern in order to make way for the
new takes prayer, commitment, and determination.
All of us who share these Steps have broken away from old patterns. We
have chosen to leave compulsive procrastination alone. We may have chosen to leave
unhealthy relationships. And we are daily choosing to move beyond our
shortcomings. But not every day is a successful one. Our shortcomings
have become ingrained. Years of pouting, or lying, or feeling fearful,
or procrastinating beckon to us; the habit invites
itself.
We can find strength from the program and one another to let go of the
behavior that stands in the way of today's happiness. And we can find in
one another a better, healthier behavior to imitate.
The program is helping me to know there is a better way, every day,
to move ahead. I am growing up again amidst the good habits of others,
and myself.
From Each Day a New Beginning: Daily Meditations
BASICS:
MY BASICS: checking in; support calls (1x); affirmation; gratitudes; reading; check calendar; plan to plan; email my 3 most important tasks; voicemail; exercise #1; manage A; manage D; use timesheet and timer; if I feel a setback or need immediate mood repair -- I will do exercise #2
Affirmations/Mantras:
Just get started. Where, when and on what can I start?
Remember I may not feel overly enthused to get started.
Stay put. I will not give in to wanting to "feel good" in the short
term. If I feel fear or anxiety, I will focus on my inner landscape of
curiousity, my drive to succeed, my interests, etc which are much larger
than my fears. "Feeling good now comes at a cost."
Remember: Only 8,760 hours in the year.
Remember, I won't feel more like doing it tomorrow either
Good morning, and I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I have to work a couple hours tonight, but it shouldn't be too bad. I goofed off a little while this morning, but now I have my grocery list and I'm going now to get dressed and head out the door to visit mom, buy groceries and run a couple of other errands. I'm feeling good and ready to seize the day.
Have a productive and enjoyable day everyone!
Update 5pm
Home from shopping and errands. spent a long time at Mom's because a friend of hers passed away this week and she's kinda down. I've put away the cold stuff and then I sat down to take a break and I've been sitting for an hour!
