Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.

Nice To Meet You All...

Hello my future friends and future comrades-in-proactivity!

I've always hated choosing a screen name for myself because I feel nothing I pick captures me well. That said, I chose Smokin' Al not because I use tobacco, but because I'm a certified BBQ judge and competitor. It's a hobby. What I do for a job is arts education and administration. Not a great time to be either, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it work.

I'm here after my therapist located this site through a search. He and I have attended Overeaters Anonymous meetings (and will continue to) and thought just today how great it would be if there was a Procrastinators Anonymous. Thank God for a Google search and not making too many assumptions.

My list of things that have not been accomplished due to procrastination is huge, as you might imagine. They include everything from not finishing a college degree to letting health issues complicate my life to avoidance of key relationship concerns

My conversation with him was spurred by a book review in The New Yorker by James Surowiecki (http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2010/10/11/101011crbo_books_...) about a collection of essays on procrastination, mostly by philosophers (http://www.amazon.com/Thief-Time-Philosophical-Essays-Procrastination/dp...). It was fascinating to me and helped my focus my session today on how much procrastination has hindered me. Only time will tell, but I think today might have been a turning point. At the very least, I've found myself amongst you all and that's a pretty great thing.

We came up with a compact today to help me set and achieve goals (details provided upon request). What's important for me to take away from today is that I'm not broken (only bent a bit) or alone or incurable. I'm looking forward to my first check-in tomorrow morning. More important, I'm looking forward to getting to know some or all of you, so we can all find our way together.

My best to all of you.

A.-

Welcome Al

Interesting article!

((Big Al -- welcome))

Jump on in AL...the sauce is great.......tangy and hard to ingest it all at times, but there are a lot of ingredients there.

I am very impressed with your upbeat approach and courtesy to all here -- really. That is quite rare for a newcomer. So come on in and I/we am glad you are here (and forgive my gratuituous remarks on sauces in my opener:-).

Welcome. I read that article

Welcome. I read that article and thought it was great as well.  Look forward to seeing you here. Best, tracy-la
