Slackin :(

Totally slacked yesterday.  Ended up looking at photos of Thailand and India for hours.  I wish I had the money to go this year. :(  Never got around to working out or cleaning.  Also I really need some sleep meds, it gets progressivly harder to sleep after I lose a night.

Scribbler checking it in

Yesterday was not one of my best. I got a trifle distracted in the a.m., to some extent due to posting to my three online checkin threads. In the afternoon I got drowsy and dropped down for what was supposed to be a 20-minute power nap. But I neglected to set an alarm and wound up sleeping for 2 hours. That put a hink in the schedule, for sure. Today:

MORNING

  • - get up at 6:30
  • - read the paper
  • - water plant
  • - checkin
  • - physical therapy
  • - get new inspection sticker
  • - read JH book
  • - send query
  • - lunch w/C
  • AFTERNOON
  • - draft lowcost
  • - apply registration sticker
  • EVENING
  • - fold laundry
  • - fix sink
  • - prepare healthy dinner
  • - attend C concert
  • - read, practice guitar, relax
  • - bed by 11 p.m.

One thing I'm working on is eating healthier. I think gorging on chocolate, Cokes, chips and cheese in the evening  is interfering with getting to bed at a decent hour. And not getting enough sleep is hurting my daytime productivity. It's not just naps. I have resisted reading the JH book because it's boring and will make me sleepy. Anyway, onward and upward. Thanks to all who post and read here. You're helping me out. Please feel free to comment on anything you see here. I'll try to do the same as soon as I've been around here long enough to have anything to stay. Scribbler

Kitty CI 9:46 a.m.

Another day late for online CI despite making the CI phone meeting this morning.  (At this point I feel almost pathologically superstitious about having to make that phone call, or I won't be able to function!  Though I am thrilled to replace a bad compulsion--sleeping in and procrastinating all day--with such a good one.  I just can't thank everyone enough for doing this every day!)

Here is my list of commitments:

  • One hour M - only did 10 minutes
  • 7:30 CT PA Phone Meeting done!
  • PT done!
  • Create E log (added to list) done!
  • Section 4 of PM done!
  • 10:30CT Phone CI done!
  • Section 2 of UR - did not do. Actually, I need to reevaluate whether this is worth my time, or I should abandon it in favor of other projects.
  • 12:30CT Online CI done!
  • Section 5 of PM done!
  • Send A to C done!
  • Fax receipts to U - delayed due to calls I need to make prior to faxing
  • 4:30CT Phone CI done!
  • PT done!
  • Gratitude journal
  • Meditation done!
  • Get to bed on time!!!!!! done!

Update for 5:30:  I got a lot of things done, but felt scattered.  Transitions were torturous today.  After another day of not getting UR section done, it occurred to me that it may not really be worth the time and energy that it will be required to complete--it was something I signed up for thinking it would be helpful, but now I am not sure.  Tonight I need to reassess this issue, as well as some others.

Getting things done is so novel for me.  I am getting items cleared from the (large) backlog, but wondering now how to incorporate the longer-term goals as well as the urgent ones.  And I keep saying I need to really get some good reflection time but it seems to dribble away in the evenings, afterthe energy expended during the now-productive days.  So I am going to sign off and focus on that tonight, now, before I get distracted from it ;)

e's baby steps for May 26, 2010

had an up energy day yesterday, today is a sluggish one. I am still in a good mood, so am embracing the putter today. I got to see how planning ahead supports me in days like today: there was food ready to eat that supported me, the dishes were minimal because I had completed them last night. It is quite hot today and the ac is not in, so I will take showers and sit under the fan while I work on FAFSA and my work work (MIT's). I also have a meeting tonight for which I am the greeter (boy, having a service position is helping me show up when I least want to) so I will need to leave by 6:15 this evening to be on time. Working backwards I need dinner generally prepared by 5:30 so I would like to work on the dinner components throughout the day, sandwiched between paperwork tasks.

So far this morning I made the phone meeting by the skin of my teeth, have eaten breakfast and taken my meds, handled the dishes and am now ready to shower and get going. I am hoping that once I get into the shower I will feel more willing to move. Humidity is my nemesis!

I love your graphic and the sentiment.  Thanks for making me smile.

kromer 8:20 CI

A little worried b/c a morning prayer group that's been really great for me seems like it might be breaking up...but it's not something I can control (and in any case I can always pray by myself int he morning!) so I'll ask HP for "the serenity to accept the things I cannot change).

OK, so with that, time to get to work! The last couple days have been quite good focus-wise, but frustrating b/c I have been working on big projects that have been taking much longer than I expected.

So, for today I'll try to schedule some short projects that I can complete today, as well as chipping away at the biggies.

Scheduled: subgroup mtg 1-3 (going to this now), bible study 8:30-10:30ish

MITs:
*Pre-register for classes (1 hr)
*Finish EAs project (try comparison w/ unique genes, write up (will do this after mtg)) (2 hrs)
*Email about phenome sets (15 min)
*Work on VAD project (finish making GOslim sets, look at gene ovlp (working on this now))

Other tasks:
*Call and text IA
*Deacon stuff
*Orders
*More on VAD project

*Class stuff (1 hr)

OK, going to start with an hour on the VAD project, then I'll try to get EA's project done, then I'll do pre-reg.

Agnus checkin in

I work-binged so blindly yesterday that I didn't even notice I'd missed lunch until 5pm, then started dinner at 10pm, then fell asleep in the chair...ugh.  Like my eating disorder, my procrastination addiction has binge, purge and avoid manifestations. Paul's post reminds me that though I'm using PA Tools, it's been awhile since I applied the Steps to my procrastination. So that's first. Then, on to the plan du jour:

  • synch ppts for dry run and send DONE!
  • working agenda for dry run  DONE!
  • call wj3 about registration probs; folo up with dd DONE!
  • respond to db and cl about eval rept DONE! it was 104 pages - ack!
  • partner rfp brainstorm call 1300 DONE!
  • summarize brainstorm for rr DONE!
  • primer text
  • sched actions from yellow notepad
  • planning: rm budget
  • send anncmt to all ap's on wf3 resources
  • fwd kt email to ap's
  • dry run 1530 DONE!
  • make any changes from dry run
  • have the hard talk with 3f
  • buy ofc supplies
  • decide what to do about vacation(s)
  • call MIL and SIL (surg 6/16?)
  • estate inventory
  • insurance claim
  • 20-minute microburst on bills pile

    LATER this week:

  • call J2 for help with bookcase assembly
  • decide what to do about new self-appointed bff
  • decide what to do for Memorial Day weekend; options are painting the office, cleaning and painting the porch, camping at the beach, camping in the woods
  • find out where to recycle telephone books
  • inventory paint supplies
  • commit to a beginner's sewing lesson Schedule 20-minute microbursts for bills pile - medicare pile - 2008 corp taxes

    Still kicking

Got an assessment and online quiz done today im off to watch some Rugby League but I will do some more online stuff before bed its been a long (and very rainy) day! The essay which caused me to join this site (after a series of intense painful all nighters) got me a distinction! 80/100. What a miracle, I am lucky but this highlights my mission: imagine my score had I been organised. This ego boost has been a great lesson learned.

    yeah putmynikeson!

congratulations! Isn't it great to know that we can far exceed our expectations when we find support to take the next right step!

    am late

I'm late for my check-in. Been trying to avoid starting... so ended up procrastinating for the last 1.5 hrs. But well, here I am. And after all, things have already improved a lot since I joined PA. I've stopped wasting whole days just because I didn't want to start on my tasks. Smile

Lucky's thread starter is perfect for me today because I need to break down my task into very small steps to not be afraid of them and try to avoid starting.

Today I have many minor tasks that need to be done - but they do not cause me problems. Its the major items with conflict or risk associated with them that I need to book-end here.

    These are the big ones..

    1. AOP Status Report (by 0930) ((DONE))

    2. CR Documents (now there are 6 to do) - need progress, not completion ((STARTED))

    3. Resolve Data Quality Issue (by 1300) ((DONE))

    4. Progress Hardware Order Approvals (progress not completion by 1700) ((PROGRESS))

    The small stuff;

AOP Program Meeting (0930)((DONE)). Lunch Appointment (1230)((POSTPONED)). Steering Group Meeting (1400)((DONE)). Architecture Conference-call (1600)((POSTPONED)). Dinner with daughter (1800)((DONE)). AA meeting (2030)((DONE)). Journal, Tai Chi & Bed (by2300)((LATE 0030)).

Yesterday I had a good day - made progress on may resisted tasks but goofed off for about 2 hours and did not make progress on one particular items thats geting urgent (thats #2 above). As always it is because I am fearful of criticism and conflict. So today I will just write the docs and pretend I am never sending them to anyone.

I have made a decision to hand over my life and my will to my higher power - and to simply do the best I can one moment at a time for this day only.

    Respect, Paul

    Lucky CI

I opted to check email first thing this morning instead of checking in... That was not a sensible decision and could have gone VERY badly, but as it happened I got all my email duties for the day done efficiently, got out of the house in time and am now checking in from the station, so no harm done.

    Before work:

    Email/facebook/lj/forum :)

    Commute:

    Check in :)

    Full makeup :)

    Prayer time

    Read

    Work:

    Make work plan

    Bible meeting

    Other stuff to decide later

    After work:

    Dog face wash

Floss, brush teeth, wash face, moisturise

Crazybug first check in ever! Whoo hoo!

So this is the first time that I've posted to this board. I like the check in concept and hope to use it as a tool to help me. I've already procrastinated at work for the past 2.5 hours, so this is a first small baby step. I feel too overwhelmed by trying to list all that I need to accomplish so I will start with some very small steps. It's better than no steps, right?!  So here goes,

    • I will use the Minute timer for 15 minutes to identify some small manageable goals
    • I will take a break for 5 minutes
    • I will use the Minute timer for 15 minutes to make progress on one of the small manageable goals
    • I will check back in and try to make some more goals

That sounds reasonable and doable, right?

    You go

Yeah, Crazybug. That's a great way to start. Actually, probably any way is a great way to start, compared with not starting at all, which has been my usual approach. Congrats on breaking the ice. Hope you have a good day. Scribbler
