Alright - that's it. I need to eat enough to really satiate my hunger. That little green salad held me for about an hour. I can't think when my stomach is demanding attention.

OK, gradually I am going to learn how this thing works.
Good morning all!
Doesnt look like I'm going to make it on time to the 6am AA meeting - BUT I am going to stop in ANYWAY.
TO ACCOMPLISH BEFORE 9AM:
--clear table and kitchen
--make bed
--hair, deodorant, dress
--load up to go
--forward phone, drive, call mom
--stop in at AA meeting in Burbank
--buy breakfast
--drive to office and arrive at desk
--clear 1 email
Good morning! It's nice to have someone else here who goes to daily AA meetings. I wasn't going for a while and started to get insane. I've been doing a 90 in 90, and I'm feeling much better. I go in the evening after work. Mornings I'm going to the gym lately. :)
I work at a treatment center. I'm kind of surrounded by recovery all the time. Meetings on top of working in it everyday is just too much. Unless, of course, we're talking about procrastination, that's were my struggle lies today.
Something else I thought of... In a treatment center the meetings are beginners meetings. I know that people with time are supposed to go to those and share their experience, strength and hope and sometimes I go, but they don't do for me what meetings with people who have time do for me. In meetings where most people have significant time you hear lots of wisdom and serenity and that's what I need. Vibrating newcomers are good for reminding you where you never want to go again, but for help with your life, oldtimers have more to offer. ;)
That's the problem with outside meetings where I live, too many newcomers. But at work most of the staff are in recovery and we all talk recovery all the time. Lunch is the best, it's usually a pretty good meeting.
I've got 9+ years and relapse isn't an issue for me, but when I don't go to meetings I get really wonky. I start regressing emotionally. I moved back to New York recently and didn't go to meetings here at first because they weren't "my" meetings and it's different here in New York, blah blah. But I was really getting crazy, so I forced myself to get involved with AA here. I found small meetings in my neighborhood (I don't like the giant meetings), and I go every day. I feel so much better! :)
I live in an area where there aren't many meetings to choose from, and the few that are here leave a lot to be desired. I've had to get...creative...about meetings. Therapy, self-awareness group, goal-setting group, working in this environment, and now PA all seem to be filling the same need for me.
It sounds like you have plenty of support, even without meetings, and that's good. You don't sound crazy so it must be working for you. ;)
New York is a fantastic place to be if you're in recovery because there are literally hundreds of meetings all over the city, and practically at any hour of the day or night. You can go to meetings all day and evening here. I live a couple blocks up the street from a clubhouse (Perry Street). There are many meetings to choose from, even within just this neighborhood, and that's a very good thing.
I lived in a very rural place before coming back to New York, but I was lucky there, too, meeting-wise. There was a treatment facility in the next town over and thus more meetings than usual in such a rural place. Not all the meetings were that good, though. I liked the meetings in the town where I lived because it was artsy and the people there were educated and bright. In the neighboring towns, the meetings were often filled with rednecks that I couldn't relate to well. (This is also why I wanted to move back to New York.)
thanks to both of you - good to get the input on meetings
my problems with meetings:
(1) I am a love addict, I think - can't stand to feel abandoned and alone - so an evening meeting leaves me panicked when I have to go home and be alone.... THEREFORE, I am focusing on morning meetings
(2) Since I'm a procrastinator, getting to work early is very important - and 8am meetings are just too late to get that beat-the-system-and-got-in-early rush. And meetings of groups like Toastmasters etc. just take way too long. Getting to the office at 930am or 10am makes me feel like a procrastinator and a loser.
(3) My primary dysfunction, I think, is being an Adult Child (adult child of abusive parents). So going to AA meetings, containing some abrupt or formerly abusive people in the mix, is challenging for me. But I'll make it work until I can replace it with something better. There are very few ACA, love addict, PA or DA meetings out there, and never at 6am.
Going to the gym early in the morning is working well for me. Even the fact that the gym is a 20 minute walk works for me. I like taking early morning walks, and it gives me time to digest my breakfast. Also, getting out first thing takes away the cabin fever I sometimes feel working at home. The only downside is carrying the heavy gym bag.
Tomorrow I'd like to get there earlier. Yesterday and today I left at 7:45. I'd like to leave at 7-7:30am. Getting up at 6:30am I should be able to do that. Maybe I'll check in here after returning from the gym rather than before.

I had trouble figuring out when to schedule my daily workouts so I'd do it consistently. I've only done it two days in a row so it's by no means a habit yet, but I like doing it in the morning. Here's why:
I like taking walks early in the morning (I walk to the gym).
I have the most energy early in the day so I most feel like vigorous exercise.
If I exercise in the morning, then I get it out of the way first thing and I don't have to think about it or worry about doing it for the rest of the day.
I'm wondering if it's often better to start new habits in the morning. When they become habits, they can fit in the schedule at a more intuitive time slot, but when I'm first practicing a new habit mornings might always be better. I'll have to think about that some more.
When I'm figuring out my day plan, I always schedule the hard stuff in the morning. If it requires focus and concentration, I will not be able to start on it in the afternoon - has to be morning. Afternoon is when I do stuff that doesn't require deep thought.

LOL!! :D You're funny.
Yes, I did go the gym again today. It feels great. I do 20 minutes on the stair stepper, then 20 minutes of stretching and floor exercises - generally on the ball (I like exercise balls). I've never enjoyed lifting weights so I don't, but aerobic exercise always makes me feel great afterwards. I feel so good starting off the day this way. :)
I'm noticing that exercise makes me hungry. (Duh!) When I come back, I want to eat something. I try to be careful what and how much I eat because I want to lose the weight I gained, and I don't want to gain due to increased appetite. That's happened to me before.
that was the problem i used to have with hiking in the AM. enjoyed it, pushed it, then came home ravenous, ate big, and hibernated. if you are maintaining momentum after you eat, i think thats the key.
