To see when today's meeting is in YOUR timezone, look at the calendar below on the day you wish to attend.and there will be a time zone link on that day.

What is a "Meeting Anchor"?

The "anchor of the day" shows up on time and makes sure the meeting gets started.  The anchor doesn't have to lead the meeting.  You just need to show up and then direct whoever wishes to lead on where to find the format.

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes you arrive and find yourself alone.  If this is the case, you start the meeting and keep going, pasting in the format by yourself, talking to your own version of 'higherpower'. Starting meetings on time is part of our recovery.   Procrastinators are often latecomers, so you know that other PA members will arrive soon and you won't be alone. If you build it, they will come.

We decided in the PA business meeting that the same person doesn't have to anchor each week. Hence a sign-up sheet. This is where to sign up if you would like to anchor. Just reply to the post for the week you want to anchor (and remember to do it!!!).

If you are new to PA, you too can anchor! All you need to do is to show up on time and make sure the meeting happens.

FORMAT:
Our meeting format is at the following link:

http://procrastinators-anonymous.org/node/3858

This sign-up sheet goes from September through October 2012.

Please sign up and show up, so that we can keep this wonderful resource going! smiling :) smiling

This calendar now extended into February 2013

Thanks to Lennon for getting it set up!

Thanks for your willingness to be there for arriving attendees -- as an anchor/greeter.
I was happy to lead the actual meeting. But I know you would have done fine leading, too.  And yes I do hope others step forward.  The format is intended to be self-explanatory.  And part of our recovery is being willing to take action even when we feel imperfect.

Sunday chat box meetings

Hi moving,

Sorry I have not been helping out with this recently. I struggle with the getting up early - as you know it's 6.30 am Monday in my time zone. Also I'll be away next Monday. Thanks again for all your service.

For other PA members:

if you are considering leading this meeting: please do give it a try if you can. It's really not so hard and everyone is very forgiving of any mistakes. If you have been to any 12 step meeting here or elsewhere, and you can cut and paste text, you can do it!Smile

Hi movingalong and findingaway

Hi to both of you,

I would be happy to lead a meeting, but I haven't attended one yet!  :-P  I plan on attending the 16th and 23rd, and the week after that I will be on vacation with family.

In January, I plan on happily volunteering to lead a meeting.  It seems like both of you-- particularly movingalong-- have made a huge commitment to this group and deserve a break!

Apologies that I can't start earlier than January, but I would like to attend a meeting as a participant once or twice before I volunteer to lead.   I hope some others step up to the plate too.

Thank you both for your service to the group.

Gotmusikk re Sunday chat box meeting

Glad to hear you will be coming along to the meetings and are interested in leading! It certainly makes a lot of sense to attend as a participant before leading.

Movingalong is the one who has made a huge commitment; she anchored the meeting for several years on her own before it was passed over to 'group responsibility'. I have only led the occasional meeting, which has been a good experience - as I said, it's the getting up early that I'm not so good with, but need to do that to participate at all!

Re: "group responsibility" for 12step meeting

The meeting was truly always the responsibility of the group higher power.  Ever since the meeting was first begun in April 2008, we have always encouraged everyone to take turns leading -- it used to be part of the format that we would begin by announcing this right at beginning of the meeting and then asking: "Who would like to take a turn leading today?"

I did serve as an "anchor" by committing to show up and be there to ask "Who will be willing to lead today?", but I was never "in charge" of anything.

However, the idea of asking at the start of the meeting wasn't totally successful ... because people often said they felt uncomfortable about the idea of spontaneously volunteering.

We did however, through the years, have members who were willing to jump in to lead the meeting, and the group is VERY grateful for all their service!

We just didn't know how to create a "formal" system for encouraging others to participate, by having a rotation of people willing to "anchor" as well as a rotation of leaders.

And then finally, one day, in October or November 2011, in a group business meeting, someone came up with the idea for how to create and post these sign-up calendars onto the forum -- and this has been a tremendously helpful tool.   Thank you to this person, and to the group higherpower for inspiring her!

We post a new calendar every few months. Different people have posted and created these calendars and we are grateful for their service as well!

We also voted to have someone serve for a few months at at time in the role of "reminder for anchoring".  We've been doing this for the past year.  The Reminder person's job is to check the calendar every week, and if nobody has signed up to anchor, then the ReminderPerson will post a note onto the the DailyCheck-In Forum where the most members read ... a "gentle reminder" notice saying "anchors needed for Sunday's meeting".    Much gratitude for the group business meeting participants who came up with the idea of creating this "trusted servant" role of the "reminder person"!   The job of being the "Reminder" has been a very helpful service, and we appreciate the persons who have served in this role!

Thanks for the summary re: group 12-step meetings

Thanks for giving me (& us newbies?) the history of how the 12-step meetings have run in terms of the anchor/leader.

I'll be in touch towards the end of December/start of January to sign up!

Hope you have a good day, and a nice start to your week.  Sending positivity to all!
