My goal today is to finish this one essay that I've been working on since Friday...well, on and off...
I need to structure it, and to make sure I answer the question being asked. I can do it, I need to have some faith in myself and to not get bogged down in self-doubt. Keep it simple.
I'll use the chatbox, and I'll work for shorter periods than yesterday but do more of them. Also it may help to actually set a specific task per unit of work, such as creating sections/headings that will help me with the structure, and writing connecting paragraphs where necessary.
I'd better get started! Am also having to work at home (full of distractions: I want to clean my windows! Yesterday I baked bread!) as there's an appointment booked for sometime, very imprecisely, 'this afternoon'.

Didn't check in all week, just too much stress at work ... was strange, difficult week, with slaps on the wrist for no reason. Tired of it, and in very bad mood today.
The latest procrastination behavior to take hold is as usual, putting off the oil change. Why I am glitched out about this particular task is beyond me. I have now officially waited the longest ever to do this, still have not, now planning to go first thing Monday morning before work, because the car sounds/feels bad, air is low in tires, and engine oil light started to flash briefly yesterday, which I've never seen before. Duh. So sick of my behavior (or lack of it).
I found a technique of reverse psychology, out of pure chance and mostly exasperation: on my to-do lists, tell myself *not* to do it. For ex, "don't get the frickin oil change, just let the engine die so you can't get to work" ... it takes the pressure off, shows direct consequences and plays with the wires in my brain the minute I tell myself I "have to" do something and want to defy it.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. And Lord please forgive me for my gross inability to take care of maintenance, and protect me and my car esp. tires and engine until the Holy Spirit can drive me over there tomorrow morning. Amen.
Joshua 1:9 (NIV) "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Psalm 118:6 (KJV) The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Hebrews 13:6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"
Psalm 27:1 Of
David. The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The
LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?
Psychologists have found that it may take as little as 10 trials for a dog to learn a "learned helplessness" behavior. Yet it takes as many as 100-200 or more trials for that dog to "unlearn" that same "learned helplessness" behavior. I need tio gratefully remember-it can be done, progress not perfection.
I had a nice start to my day and used my 'morning pages' exercise to clarify something mentally...but have since fallen into the trap of not ACTING on the good advice I gave myself!!!
So, it's almost noon here (and beautifully sunny weather), and I want to get my essay (draft) finished soon enough to be able to go and enjoy some of that sunshine...
I will write in one hour increments, and take a 15 minute break at the end of each hour. If I resist the urge to go 'off-plan' and just write and don't worry too much about polishing my prose at this point, then I can actually get a good amount done. Maybe even be finished by 4. That would be great :).
Ok, using the chatbox to help me get started...
___________________________________________________________________________ It's an inside job...
I am. being incredibly resistant today to the idea of working. I don't understand. I need to complete the work, so why am I delaying???
Next: gather books, pencil, notepad... leave house... go to meeting... then see how I feel...yet, knowing that waiting for 'feeling' like doing something is a trap... DO THE THING INSTEAD!!!!! MOTIVATION FOLLOWS ACTION!!!!!!
So, meeting, then work on essay at friend's place where I won't have any distraction..

my commitment to running, not sure how I'll fit it in. Part of me is tempted to just prioritize exercise over all else.

Excuse me, but -- as clearly specified at the top of my posts-- I do not want "Advice or feedback" and that includes replying to my posts on this message board. This advice is entirely unhelpful b/c the deadline for all of these has already past. I don't even want to get into a conversation with anyone about my projects for exactly this reason. I suffer from "demand resistance disorder" and giving me a bunch of unsolicited feedback is extremely unhelpful and counter-productive; and even if that weren't the case not respecting my wishes is inappropriate. I have been traumatized on many previous occasions, including this one. You don't know the importance of exercise in my life or how it is important to me professionally. You don't know my situation. In meetings I appreciate the no-unsolicited-feedback rule and I would appreciate your respecting my clearly stated request for that here.
Please do not leave advice or feedback. Thank you. Prayers welcome.

See The Now Habit for Overcoming Procrastinationand The Now Habit at Workfor more strategies for achieving Optimal Productivity by maintaining your commitments to your life and family."
- I got this from Niel Fiore's blog. Absolutely helpful advice. I think this is one of the problems with my addiction.
-Things I I want to have in my week to look forward to:
* Going to at least one face to face fellowship with a group of people.
* Something social, could be the above, or could be a movie or karaoke.
* Going running about 3-4 days a week. It makes me feel alive and productive.
I'm at uni. I'm supposed to be doing some research and reading for an essay, and instead I've had lunch, watched a performance, returned a couple of library books, had coffee, eaten chocolate, looked at facebook...blah blah blah. Very very silly!!!! And at six pm I'm going to watch some more third year performances... so really I'd better head to the library again NOW!!!!
log in to email and print off a couple of useful messages from my tutor re reading list
find at least a couple of the books on it
make a little headway with reading!!!!
Now I've written that little list I'm thinking, I can stay here in this lovely quiet restful spot for a bit longer, and just do some googling of the topic... maybe till 4pm, that's fifteen minutes of focus...

"If you have “Guilt-Free Play” in your week you are less likely to be resentful of your work. In fact, when you have a planned event to attend and people to see outside of work, you are more likely to complete your work more rapidly and efficiently, and are less likely to procrastinate because you are not resentful or ambivalent.
Make sure you have events in your weekly schedule to look forward to – sports, yoga, dinner with friends, music – and you will avoid the resentment that causes procrastination andburn-out. See The Now Habit for Overcoming Procrastination and The Now Habit at Work for more strategies for achieving Optimal Productivity by maintaining your commitments to your life and family."
* Weekly movie vlog

hazyjane ci thursday May 15th

Tough times. What I need most today is self compassion. "Self-compassion steps in precisely when we fall down, allowing us to get up and try again."
