Hiyall! Lotsa catchup

Hiyall! Lotsa catchup news...Today is first since 6/15 with both Internet and time to pull out the laptop. Our camping vacation through the Mid-Atlantic states has been awesome so far.  We are enjoying the break. J can't drive or do much else, but I can thankfully manage almost everything alone. I am certainly learning to heed when I need to rest!  This is doggie's first trip too, and he's doing great.

We've enjoyed great visits at family homes, and a memorial service in Maryland for a longtime family friend who passed peacefully at 90+ after a wonderful and impactful life.  It was an honor to help eulogize her, and a great joy to see so many old friends from her family - they lived across the street from us 59 years ago and we all kind of grew up together.

The next Friday we arrived in WV to visit J's childhood home, just as that massive storm hit: Trees falling all around, scary! The next day we wandered prayerfully southward in 105F temps with thousands of other evacuees seeking power, water, and gas. Suddenly we saw an exit sign for the hometown of a second cousin I know only from Facebook - I had no idea we were near them! They had power, a/c and gracious hospitality through 2 more days of wicked heat and storms, a Godsend.

Meanwhile my employer lost a major contract bid, so I am <8 hrs per week after this fairly expensive vacation. Ouch.  I've lined up a new FT job starting August 1, thank goodness.  But we face a bit of a financial ditch for awhile. Fears of financial insecurity really hook my compulsive procrastination, so this is a time for vigilance.

Currently we are camped in a pretty national forest near J's Kentucky kin, with a forecast for "only" 96F today. Thank goodness we have 30amp power! We'll hang here until Saturday or Sunday then aim for home by Tuesday.  Meantime I have 6 hours of billable work due by COB today, so here's da plan:

Look up a phoner meeting
Look at pre-vaca cached products and compare to content from L
Write new product(s) and email to L
Contact T about the product missed during power outtage
Contact V about when to schedule the new job pre-vetting appt
Take J to his Mom's (pack laundry in car)
Do laundry while he visits with his Mom
Dinner with his Mom
Make a meeting

May we all sense the care of a Power Greater than Self today!

  • Walk to shop to get some lunch
  • Do Frank's photos

tila - Fri

My life has been consumed by DD stuff. Which is great, except for the fact that I have to get some other stuff done.

I've changed the daily schedule to do the most critical stuff in the morning - around 5:30 am - and it is working so far. It does force me to go to bed earlier, and I procrastinate on a lesser scale.

Plan for today:

  • LR - 2 hours - more like 40 minutes
  • Declutter the living room
  • Wash kitchen
  • Guest b/r - vacuum/dust/floors
  • Guest bath/r - clean up/declutter
  • Dinner - start cooking @ 3 pm - decided to order in Chinese
  • Read to DD - DH did it
  • DD meds!!!

Friday check-in

  • breakfast
  • walk dogs
  • feed dogs
  • make bread or cake (or both?) to bring to my tea commitment
  • leave ON TIME to get to my tea commitment
  • get home, a friend is coming round at 3.30 (who has never been to my place before...)
  • have a bath and go to another meeting this evening

Generally feeling positive, although, panic sets in if I think about two weeks into the future, when I'm supposed to be all set to leave London for the summer, drive to Ireland in my van, with or without cats and dogs as yet undecided... I need to work out what I'm doing with them and I need to find someone to rent my flat out to. I need a massive decluttering/cleaning campaign to commence forthwith!!!! But but but but but... Maybe I should just blindfold myself and put everything I can't identify by touch/smell/positive vibes into bin bags and chuck...

Anyway, having thought about it:

  • measure van height and length
  • book ferry crossing
  • post ads online
  • put ad looking for foster-home for cats in library/vets/etc

On my second cup of tea, the dogs are desperate to go out now but I'm making them wait. Anyway, it's raining.

Have a good weekend everyone :).
