Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
I have been having a hard time with the procrastination. I have to finish a report that was due yesterday. I haven't looked at my email because I am afraid I'm being asked for it and I have no excuse. This pattern seems to never change, I haven't been able to change it so far. It's been years.
Anyway, today:
- finish past due report.
Although it is clear that I will not finish it today.
However, the report is made up of many discrete small sections, and I can tackle them one by one. I've done this before. In fact, for this one I have... I just counted... 96 sections to go. Ouch. This is worse than I thought, but I have no alternative.
I choose to act in these areas, today, to make quality of life and logistical readiness more comfortable and/or wonderful for my Slightly Future Self:

Happy Monday! I had a nice weekend - went to church with Mom and had an easter egg hunt with the grandkids. This morning I ran late because my tummy is unhappy with all the chocolate I ate lol,. Time to get back to mindful eating. So I'm starting the day running 30 minutes behind, but I've been to the gym and checked my calendar. Now I will check email and voice mail and make my todo list. I know the first item will be the agenda for the noon meeting.

Update 1:45 afternoon slump. I'm working on the new project, which has morphed into something different since last week. It's confusing, and I'm not sure how to proceed. Checking in to bookend a) breaking down the task into small parts b) doing the first small part.

Tip of the day for myself and any other perfectionists:
As an alternative to negative perfectionism Ben-Shahar suggests the
adoption of optimalism. Optimalism allows for failure in pursuit of a
goal, and expects that while the trend of activity will tend towards the
positive it is not necessary to always succeed while striving to attain
goals. This basis in reality prevents the optimalist from being
overwhelmed in the face of failure.[10] Optimalists accept failures and also learn from them, which encourages further pursuit of acievement.[14]
Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar believes that Optimalists and Perfectionists show
distinct different motives. Optimalists tend to have more intrinsic,
inward desires, with a motivation to learn. While perfectionists are
highly motivated by a need to consistently prove themselves worthy.[10]
