Vic 1/14/12

Show up (done) calender, basics.

Had help, almost wished she would cancel, but she did not and together pushed through things I would not have done. Need to endorse my efforts and now get some sleep.

good to keep pushing forward.

Gwen D: 4:28 PM

I'd say this is ridiculous, but it's better to say, it is what it is.

I have spent a normal Saturday, doing things like grocery shopping, cleaning the house, and doing a little Facebooking.

Unfortunately, I have a client who wanted something from me by the end of the day.

This was not done. Maybe I can salvage something before the next day dawns. And I suppose that is why I am here. Is it possible to:

Generate a 16 page PDF containing all the restaurant reviews, edited and laid in.

and the Best Of section, at least edited and laid in.

I don't have to be persnickety about layout and typography. I just need to let her see all the text in more or less the way it will be so she can print and proof while she travels.

Right.

What are my obstacles? I'm getting sleepy. I have a computer that flips off off off as soon as the power cord falls out. It is a laptop and I don't have the connector to the monitor so I can work at the desk properly.

Solutions?

Dig around and find the monitor connector somewhere.

Put the laptop in a super stable place and work at the desk.

Listen to music and eat more food and drink more tea.

Stop beating yourself up. You've done a lot today and you might be able to get this text in there by 9PM. Goal -- 8PM. Check in with updates.

4:59 -- Found the connector for the old laptop and the monitor. The reason I'm using the old laptop is that it has all the Macros I need. Right? Right. It will make the text editing go faster.

7:06 -- NOT GOOD. I am only now touching the files. Yikes.

9:03 -- Most text is edited and placed in layout. Taking a dinner break. Will be back to do feature and tweak the last six.

1:34 am -- pdf is sent to client for text proofing only. 13 out of 16 pages are good to go. 3 have to be rethought.

going to sleep. At least my house is clean. It's not too terribly late, and I've eaten on a regular basis, and I haven't been beating myself up or stressing out.

Glad I got the piece mostly there.

I have a New Idea about internet use!

Before going to any website other than PA, I'll decide what I'm planning to do online, and how long I'm planning to take.

If appropriate (e.g. not when the boss is watching!) I'll tell PA and set a timer.

And I'll ask my HP to help me do only those things and spend only that time in this session online.

I'm also going to try, by and large, to plan my online activity the day before, and avoid doing unplanned things on the same day if I can help it. but I'm not going to go crazy keeping myself to that one.

And having said that I just instinctively went to twitter. This habit is going to take TIME and not giving up at the first hurdle.
Just realised I should have the same rule with books...
