Busy day today. Am driving to San Diego to meet a new client.

Checking in; Today's MIT list

To affect the quality of the day - that is the highest of the arts.
—Henry David Thoreau

We are the sculptors of our day. We can mold it creatively into a wonderful masterpiece. We control the amount of moisture we mix into our clay. We pound it, shape it, stroke it, and love it. Others can offer suggestions, and we gain new perspectives from their advice, but it is finally our own creation. Our knife may occasionally slip, or our mixture of earth may be too dry. Any great artist suffers temporary setbacks. Besides, imperfections in art often make it all the more interesting.

How creative can I be in my life today?

Lucky CI/Thought on internet addiction

Oof! I stayed up till all hours surfing the internet on my phone and slept all morning. Need to make putting it out of reach a bedtime task!

My housemate has got over being angry with me, which is A BIG RELIEF. On the other hand, it does mean I have no idea how much of this I'll be able to achieve today, as she may want to hang out with me and do all the post-Christmas catching up that we missed because we were fighting, and quite frankly if she does, I'm up for that.

Water for rats :)
Mend trousers :)
Clean last cupboard
Bathroom shelves
Hoover downstairs
Watch EFT video
Sort out headphones :)
Parents cards and emails
BC on calendar :)
Prayer time
Shiva Nata
Writing
Tomorrow's list :)
Phone out of reach :)
Bed by midnight

ALSO! I had a thought about internet addiction.

We all know that we use the internet to numb pain. As an escape, it's even more effective than reading a book, because a panicked and distressed mind gets distracted and jumps about, and the internet allows you to jump from subject to subject as often as you want, so you never jump back into the pain.

I'm just realising how much it's become a Pavlovian trained response for me. Whenever I'm upset I get a sudden urge to reach for the phone or open a browser window. It's as if it has a neon sign on it: THIS WILL MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY. Relief begins as soon as I make that first movement. I've read that the same thing happens in cigarette addiction - relief begins as soon as you handle the cigarette, because you've trained your mind over and over to make this powerful association.

Obviously, the internet isn't physically addictive. But by using it as my pain relief many, many times every day, I've trained myself into this deeply ingrained Pavlovian response. Pain? INTERNET.

What I want to do is to overwrite that habit with another. It won't happen overnight because this habit has been reinforced for years, but here's what I'd like to overwrite it with:

Pain? PRAYER.

Obviously, the scary thing here is that prayer might actually lead to my solving the problem, whereas the internet allows me to avoid it. And this IS a scary thing, and I'm not sure how to begin getting around it. I wonder how my HP would react if I said, 'Please don't try to make me solve this right now, please just give me a hug.'

Hi!

I like today's quote. Thanks, movingalong! :)

7:15am. Up, take puppy for a walk, eat breakfast, check email & Internet.

8:15 Goal: get in shower, get cleaned up, get ready to take puppy to Puppy Class. Let me see what I can do.

8:30 Took actual shower, washed & dried hair. Whew! Had procrastinated on cutting toenails since Sept/ had Howard Hughes toenails, but today I had enough emotional reserve to cut them, and trim my fingernails, too. Yay! :) My feet are probably going to smell a lot better!!! ; )

8:50 Late leaving the house to pick up my friend, but managed to pick them up and be [barely] on time for 10am Puppy Class. Yay! :)

11am finished successful Puppy Class. Last week had delayed on buying extra Puppy Treats, so went to Pet Supply Store & bought her favorite brand, which turned out to be on sale :) Went with friend to eat lunch, then took friend to their home.

12:30 nap. Puppy had re-energized by napping during car ride. Puppy played too much while I was napping, so I had to put her in her soft-sided kennel. Then she settled down for a nap, too.

3:30pm. Took puppy for walk, ate moderately-healthy snack. Friend called; we decided to get together tomorrow rather than this evening. In the midst of checking my Internet, so helpful to update CI :)

This evening. Can't decide if I will do something, or goof off. I'll goof for a while, then see what I feel like ; )

Have a great evening, everyone! :)

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)
