tues sept 20 - tracy-la check in

Good day everyone.

Hello from Los Angeles.

Quote for the day:

Education should be the process of helping everyone to discover his uniqueness.
  —Leo Buscaglia

We are each special, which means there is not another person just like ourselves. Nobody looks just like us. Nobody's voice sounds quite like our own. And nobody thinks through a story just like we do.

Each of us has been created for a special purpose. Maybe it's for what we'll teach a friend, or the way we'll help a sister or a brother. Every day will give us chances to offer our special talents to others. Our being alive is God's way of proving that we're important to the family, the neighborhood, and the world.

What important task lies before me today?

Working on various projects. Let me see how many blocks of uninterrupted tasks I can do today. Am curious about this.

Scribbler's Monday CI 10 a.m.

I'm getting the day off to a pretty good start. Lots to do, but I have a reasonable plan. Things I've been avoiding include getting new health insurance, mowing the lawn, rehearsing and writing back to the French company that is refusing toto pay my invoice. I'm not sure what the common thread is for all those. Health insurance will be time-consuming and possibly frustrating, in that I won't wind up getting a less costly plan. Mowing will be time-consuming and sweaty. Rehsearsing will involve confronting the painful possibility that I really do suck as a musician. Writing the French people will be frustrating, since I have no leverage to get them to pay. But I probably should not just ignore these tasks. We'll see how it goes.As usual, the emphasis must be on revenue-generating activities.

Thanks to everybody for reading and posting. You are very helpful to me.

Congratulations Journey!

A wonderful milestone and an excellent work accomplishment. Keep on!

Grinding away

Pretty good day yesterday. Was able to stay on task and made good progress. Managed  to complete 10 x 30 minute work blocks (actually more, because I stayed on the last case until it was done). Still went to bed too late. Have quite a bit to get done before traveling, now pushed back to Tuesday, so I will get to it. Starting to feel the anxiety rising, just have to get back on the path and put one foot in front of the other and keep my mind in the moment.

Goal 1: 5 work blocks, each 30 minutes max

Goal 2: Lunch, 30 minutes

Goal 3: 8 work blocks, each 30 minutes max

Goal 4: Dinner, 30 minutes

Goal 5: 5 work blocks, each 30 minutes max

Goal 6: Leave by 9 PM

Goal 7: Do some laundry, pack suitcase

Goal 8: To bed by midnight

I hope I will not have to come to work at all tomorrow. I may have to finish some things online, but I will try to do that from home. Back to report.

Journey 10 am 31 years! & update

Happy Monday!   The big push for my big project is done yay!   There is still much work to be done to roll out the new software but the first and biggest hurdle is done.   The bad news is that now I feel that I want/deserve to slack off.   I have worked so hard for the past month or so - and I don't want to keep up that pace, of course, but I would like to keep the work ethic and hard working attitude that I had, just not for quite as many hours a week!

This past week has been very busy with personal stuff too, my husband's birthday and our 31st wedding anniversary!   We had a family party yesterday afternoon and had lots of fun, then my 2 year granddaughter cried to stay with us,  so she stayed for dinner also.  I am happy but tired -  not exhausted but tired and in a transitional phase at work, and today it will not be easy to stay on track.  I may spam you with updates today to help me focus!

UPDATE 2 pm:  Thanks 4change!

My mentor in the big project just threw a monkey wrench in my plans for today by giving me a task that is going to take most of the afternoon, when I had the day all planned out.   But that's ok; regroup, refocus -  this task is now my #1 priority for this rest of the day, and when it is finished I will review and determine what other tasks, if any, I can complete today.

Having trouble getting started this morning. I need to:
*Call BCYF to ask about their hours (left a message...)
*Read paper, go to journal club
*Call ups to ask about package
*Start genotyping (part of previous expt failed, so I corrected the error, set to incubate, and planned out genotyping, but didn't actually get to start. I will take 20 min and start early tomorrow morning)
*Coat slides
*Work on poster
*Make a schedule for the week
*Finish expt corrections(will do this when I get home)
*Update records, bug mk (this needs to be postponed until early tomorrow morning)
*Deacon notes, tim, mia (working on this now)

OK, starting with schedule + paper

Update 11 am: Here's exactly what I need to get done for the poster today:
*Look up 2 refs
*Make sync. pict
*Finish methods sections: explain sync. design, explain metabolic pathway, explain HPLC/MS/MS
*Add conclusion to first result.
*Detailed plan for 2nd results section, which I will then finish tomorrow

Hypatia's check-in

Hi Lennon.  Thanks for the starter.

Life's been so hectic I haven't had time to procrastinate at work - I've just been dealing with whatever has been thrown at me.  Over the last two weeks I had two days off work with a bad back, two half days getting the central heating sorted out, and one half day when the car had a flat tyre on the way to husband's physio appointment.

I'm hoping this week will be better.  It started well at 1am on Sunday morning when our cat, Elvis, who had been missing for 5 weeks since we moved house, came in through the cat-flap and started miaowing at the top of his voice.  He's very underweight but otherwise well, and is following me round the house like a little shadow.

Procrastination at home has been a mammoth problem, but I'm at work now so will concentrate on that.

  • check files for tomorrow's meeting
  • clear client tray
  • tackle 3 phone calls
  • check phone message book and action
  • dictate reports
