Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
Yesterday I did an important presentation and it went well! Well, several people thanked me and gave me positive feedback anyway. Even though I left the preparation till the last few hours, I was ready enough.
Want to keep going on the good energy, not slide back as I have been doing.
So going to commit to showing up here every day that I work from home - usually that's Monday to Thursday, although I will be away on a course next week.
Not sure if posting my lists here is important for me - for now I will just aim to show up.
Thank you all for being here - often I read new posts even when I haven't posted.
Yesterday turned out fairly well. I was pretty anxious about several projects but tried to keep the action-overcomes-anxiet paradigm in mind and managed to hit them all a pretty good lick, at least. A couple of things turned out pretty well, in fact, and I felt a lot better by the end of the day. Feeling better may not be what it's all about, but it's nice, at minimum. I going to try to remember that I want to feel good, and the way to feel good is to work on the projects that need to get done. Trying to avoid them, postpone them etc. does not make me feel good. It makes me feel bad. I don't want to feel bad.
Seems simple, but I guess riding a bike seems simple now, and at one time it appeared to be a terrifyingly dangerous stunt. I hope all are well. Thanks for being here.
Feeling down today. Yesterday was a struggle. Today I feel that the pile of work is out of control...again. I feel overwhelmed and anxious about getting it done before traveling again this weekend. I have to borrow a page from Vic and be mindful, trying to stay in the present moment. As soon as I start focusing on the future, my anxiety rises to a level that paralyzes me, and that is a self-perpetauting cycle. So, back to my faithful but hard to follow (for me) regimen: 30 minute blocks, rotating through everything that needs to be done with added emphasis on not looking beyond the current 30 minutes if at all possible.
Goal 1: 30 minute (max) blocks x 6
Goal 2: 30 minute lunch
Goal 3: 30 minute (max) blocks x 4
Goal 4: 30 minute break
Goal 5: 30 minute (max) blocks x 4
Goal 6: 30 minute dinner
Goal 7: 30 minute (max) blocks x 2 for administrative only (falling behind on billing and related paperwork)
Goal 8: Leave at 8 PM
Goal 9: To bed at 10 PM (non-work reading OK)
Goal 10: Lights out by 11:30 PM
This is a very, very regimented day for someone (myself) who resists regimentation by nature. Even if I don't accomplish all of this (14 work blocks, 2 administrative blocks, reasonable leaving and bedtime hours), it does give me a framework to try to adhere to. A laissez-faire approach, mind-hopping hither and thither, only scatters my efforts and feeds my anxiety as the hours pass and I am stuck on, for example, one long piece of work that I can neither finish nor let go. I tend to develop a goal-centered attachment to each task, even as my concentration flags and my mind is deperately trying to run away. Intellectually, I think that approach doesn't work for me, but my limbic system is harder to convince. Back to report.
