Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
I don't know if just using Outlook and not posting here is going to work. My problem is getting distracted by online political discussions. I get into these things and spend vast amounts of time researching and writing posts. Meanwhile, paying work is being neglected. I have written a Cost Benefit Analysis a la Smart Recovery, and it's given me some insights that may prove useful. But it's still a problem. I'm irked. I spent a few or perhaps even several hours today doing that. Highly annoying. I really dislike sitting down in the evening feeling I have shirked my duties.
Well, I guess I'll give it a try tomorrow. Perhaps I'll just post quickly here and save the detailed task list for Outlook. There's gotta be a way.
incorporate rcts (work in progress, could do more on this)
meet w/ B & Y
research refresh needs (need to brainstorm next micro-step on this, I think)
ck stat rpt for other priorities
make mammogram appointment shower
make 40min. cleaning progress (never did get to doing this deliberately--may have gotten in a very few minutes)
ck Rx status (checked once at about 12:20pm; not yet ready) do del ld laundry do at least 15 minutes of Qi Gong
use Balancer (did at least a bit--not sure how much, now)
bed w/ lights & sound off by 9:30pm (not even close)
Why and How:
As part of choosing to have a satisfying amount of accomplishment, today, and making my surroundings more pleasing, I will postpone computer activities involving LJ, photos, and fan-fiction until after 6:00pm AND after doing 40min. of house-work. Before that time, I will also limit online audible browsing and online LNow browsing to 15 timed minutes each. (possibly a 40min. prerequisite was too much?)
As part of nourishing and rebuilding my personal integrity, I commit to doing at least 30 minutes of job work before doing any of the following as a reward, starting now:
Checking personal email
Taking photos (timed 15min max) (went over by about 10 minutes on this)
Changing or uploading photos as a reward
Coloring (and after coloring one item, I will do at least another 30 minutes of job work before coloring again) (did OK on this until I hit my work hours for today goal, then totally splurged)
As part of caring for my body, today, I will do at least 15min. of Qi Gong, use the Balancer (did do some), and turn the computer off by 9:00pm. Further, I will choose to to move toward bed and sleep after 9:00pm, postponing reading and listening until another day.
Additional Possibilities:
check SR
post this at PA
clean shoes!
cook rhubarb
change towel
draft G email re economic course
do th h/w journaling re self-abandonment (or self-sabotage)
think re &/or experiment w/ dance solo
research ordering new braces
make initial Tai Chi mp3 recording?
I've set a goal for today and discussed it and rewards for doing it with my partner. I am going to do 3 bullet lists, give feedback on rpp, and do a bullet list on letter. If I finish by noon, I will leave work @ 3pm and we'll go to a museum. If I finish by 3pm, I'll leave work at 3pm, but no museum.
OK, I am working on this stuff, which is really good. Have made a lot of progress on the first bullet list. Going to finish it up and move onto the next.
And back again. Having to write a report at the last minute again... :/
Just procrastinated work by reading a few articles about procrastination here on the forums. I hope it will help at least. Learned about "cognitive behavioural therapy" and "structured procrastination".
Structured procrastination (doing other things instead of the main task) is something I am actually quite familiar with, but it has one big problem: How do you get the main task done? Especially when you don't have much time left to finish it and it is extremely important?
I did probably complete some tasks, but since I haven't kept track of it, I'm setting everything to zero.
Well anyway: Today's task:
-Finish some sort of report draft, even if it isn't great and has a lot of copy/pasting. But finish something which looks like it's finished, even if the contents are not great, even if I have to fill it with lorem ipsum stuff. Basically get started and hope it will work out not too bad somehow.
P.S.: I noticed that setting my firefox shortcut to "firefox -P nonexistentprofile -no-remote"actually helps by making me choose my profile everytime and more importantly offering me the option to "exit" before even starting.
It's like a warning page: "Warning, you are probably about to waste your time. Are you sure you need to access the internet now?"
It has worked a few times. I just need to make sure to always close my browser when I'm done. Look up what I need and close it.
Overall, I'm still not very efficient, but maybe over time it will get better. I hope at least. Otherwise, well, things might change a lot... for better or worse... :/
Rough Sunday...slept, procrastinated, and "researched"(surfed/procrastinated) on the computer all day...I let my thoughts and feelings and the weather get the best of me...until I was at the point of desperation...So, again, Thank you God for a new day!
Today, I am up and at it, making a dry run for my real first day back to work tomorrow...I have made a good start already and plan to continue the trend...instead of actually going to work I will try to make some closure with this house that I have been fighting all summer...I am not going to write down what I plan on doing...In my desperation last night, I read tools for recoevery and it talked about keeping a time log...that is what I am doing today...on paper...so, for today, I am just going to check in on my progress physically, mentally, and emotionally as I go through the day...So, ready or not, here I go!! Have a sunny new day everyone!! tHANKS FOR BEING HERE FOR ME...
