I'm making the following pledge.  Until I'm done with this final exam for my Romantic Lit class, I'm not going to use

  • Facebook, myspace, any social networking site
  • livejournal,dreamwidth, deadjournal, any public blogging
  • Youtube, Hulu, allsp, online videos, netflix
  • pidgin, AIM, yahoo chat, IM chat that isn't twelve step related

I've done it before for 30+ days, so I know i can do it for the brief period of time it will take me to write my paper.

I posted to craigslist about my doggy business and ever since I've been getting these crazy emails and just put it together tonight.

I sent an ad to a neighborhood yahoo group posting for a room being available in my apartment and before the ad reached the group I got 2 replies back from this woman, whose writing was incoherent with a (305) phone number.

Now I'm terrified that this person has all my info, including my cell #, which I already gave her/him and access to my personal and where I live info.

Does anyone know what I should do. I'm afraid for our safety. Of course, miss stupid didn't think about this until after watching "Criminal Minds," as to why this person emailed me before the message hit the yahoo board.

If I never go into that email again...right now I want to get a new cell and cancel all my email groups.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

Dear Hope: Firstly B R E A T H E (not trying to lull you into false sense of security but that is an important beginning). Perhaps I can offer these few tidbits. Take what you find useful--just trying to help

1. Engage your friends and family -- i.e. don't just trust my view or anyone's. Try a few things to see what they might do. Simply stated, get as many angles on this as you can. Even if they have no specific tips, your sharing will give you some security.

2. Suggest you immediately contact your phone co. to block that # and to ensure your outgoing # is masked/blocked so even if you say called her, it would not show your #

3. Get a new email address (it is not a bad idea to keep both "business" and "personal" emails)

4. It probably may only be temp-therapeutic but change all passwords

5. On some groups, one can HIDE all info (profiles, etc) to anyone except those who are specifically admitted by that group

6. May wish to contact those leaders of those groups and just inform them so they are in the loop on you as well

7. If you are in any phone book, most folks can find you anyways. But don't let it get to you. Even if they know where you live, it does not mean they can or will hurt you.

So don't live in fear. Be prudent. You WILL be fine Trust your smartest instincts. Reply directly back if you have any other concern.

Very good, calming & sage advice, which I will heed. I already am having that address deleted. I am also thinking of starting over and deleting all my accounts. I also really like the idea of contacting the leaders of my groups.

Good morning/afternoon/evening fellow PAers!  Great starter-pic, movingalong, and also thanks for your service in posting the meeting notices.  I have now put the phone meeting times in my Outlook scheduler so hopefully I can make one soon; that is a PA tool I have not tried before.

Having trouble getting started on my job today but I do understand why. Scary med report yesterday from J's doctor and I really want to spend the day surfing the net to learn more about what we are facing. I suffer from the delusion that MY knowledge creates power over HIS health! 

What I really need is to honor my fear...and then get on with living my life today.  So, I have given him his morning meds, agreed that he can make his own breakfast today, and made my massive to-do list of work and family tasks.  Now I will spend 20 minutes - setting the timer - on these two next-right-things:
1) Call my Alanon sponsor and let her know this new development
2) Surf the 'net to see what other options this symptom might mean
3) Pray for grace to surrender my fear and get back into today.

In :20 minutes I will return here and post my to-do list for whe rest of the day.

OK, I called and left msg for sponsor, researched J's new symptom and learned there are many non-fatal implications, but no simple ones.  In any case we are in for another ride, it appears.  Most important: I prayed, surrendered the fear, and asked for grace to get focused on today's tasks.  So here goes:

5:20pm - very difficult day; a project I manage went wrong and I feel like cra* about it. There are plenty of shoulda/coulda/woulda's to go around, but my inexperience with this type of project was the main cause, abetted by my procras. And anyway as proj mgr the buck stops here.

Recovery teaches me to be honest and accountable, even when it hurts like hell. :((  I've scrapped my sewing class tonight to focus on making amends to my employer by producing a positive outcome in the above tasks, which were delayed by the afternoon's crisis.  

God, please help me deal appropriately with these awful feelings. I need You and I trust You.  Thank You for hearing my prayer.  Amen.

This check-in thing seems to be working. It helps keep me engaged on the track that I start out in in the morning,  as opposed to veering off in different directions. Perhaps it's the public aspect -- I don't want to be a screwup in front of the PA check-in people. Not sure. In any event, it's kind of fun and focusing and I like it. I'm getting stuff done. Not everything that could be done, but a lot. That's good. Thanks to everyone for being here. You are important to the process, and to me.

(MORN) Kids to camp soon - DONE. Clip his nails--surprsingly no arguments and done < 3 min....pleasant shock. DONE. Slept only 2 hrs (worried about close relative's behaviour & boozing). Despite lmtd sleep, morn anxiety low-medium only. Did not do exercise-class choice which determines morn--luckily I had not chosen, so might just skip all if no nap soon.  Try 10 or 11 am phone bridge. NOPE--COULD NOT. WILL TRY SOME :30 PAST RANDOMLY.  thought about new 8 pm PA meeting but said "naah" since I need THAT hour to do other things--shooting for later in july for sure thought (I just feel like remaining silent all day -- unusual for me). PULLED IT OUT. WENT TO AQUA FIT. PLEASANTLY EXHAUSTED. 15 min snooze in evening; could have done more but that would have messed up tonight

(AFTN) Get gas. son was patient so happily got it on way home & checked all fluids for heat wave Notarize letter. no dire hurry -- Thurs/Fri better day anyways Surf net a little. did it in parts....more than I should have but not as long overall as normally

Call ex-colleague/friend out west. DONE

No lunch out since ate out a lot on weekend. SOME LEFTOVERS FINISHED. Shut off A/C & change HVAC filter. decided to wait till Thurs--in case it packs up, family not affected if during day since so hot. Get milk. lovely wife went after work and got it!

SCAN/EMAIL receipts. I just have been dreading scanning 2 dinky little documents to email my landlord and even though he is very good at TRUSTING me about what to pay and reimbursements, I still delayed this for 3 weeks!!!...I just did it.....start to finish (incl loading software for scanner) took 7 minutes......GEEZ LOUIZE......why do we do this to ourselves???!~~! done

CALL REALTOR. She just emailed ME. I was going to write the great American novel as "mea culpa" and she just quickly asks so wonderfully: "hey did you look at these." which just happily deflates my pent up frustration over MY not having called her.....why, I have no idea!!...why do we do this to ourselves??~~! done -- and set up appts for Thurs, wife will be pleased too

BILLS - Satellite&Phone. the present double monster, though I rechecked my password OK and might suck up the internet-payment fee and do it tonight to be free of it  vs mailing a check

ORDER TIRES. Realistically, with using chatbox, I will have to defer to this tomorrow as I might be micro-bursting here at home. Plus, they could not do it on credit card on phone as I must sign for it, so that (1) let me off the hook but (2) made sense for tomorrow as I might try and get rebate again will juggle realtor, notary, and tires Thurs-Fri if need be

(EVE)CLOTHES. OTHER ENVELOPES....If not today, I will stop writing these CAPS down as I began using simple daily email calendar too but repeated "list transfer" is also gratuituous & procrastination. Might go to library w/ briefcase to get away & start. and here I am! Decided to exchange pleasantries (one of my rewards) with another friend so did that instead of opening the bills-briefcase but for a change I am at least carrying it around like a babe-in-arms to remind me of having to do it

Journey 8:20 &

Busy day, lots of meetings.  These kind of days are hard for me as I am not good at using the time between meetings.   I'm an introverted person and face -to-face meetings are stressful for me, so I tend to just shut down during the time that I do have to work, which is not a good thing! 

So, first of all, I need to finish building out the test servers, then meeting at 10, then I have 1/2 hour before leaving for lunch with friends, I have two meetings in the afternoon but they are conference calls which is easier for me and I can do some multi-tasking also.

Update 2 pm Still working on the servers but making good progress.  I walked to lunch, that's the most exercise I've had in 3 weeks!  It felt good but now I feel tired.  I have one more meeting at 3 pm.   By then I expect to be done with these servers.  I don't expect to get much else done today.    If I have time/energy I will work on planning the kickoff meeting for Project Z.  I *will* leave on time today!

Update 4 pm.  One more hour.   I'm feeling tired this afternoon, but I can still be productive for this last hour, eh?  Let's see, the best use of this hour would be to compose an email to the team on project Z and prepare them for the kickoff meeting next week.

I rarely have trouble actually sleeping but I do procrastinate going to bed/sleep, and the result is the same: waking up late exhausted, as you say. Sorry to hear you're feeling that today, and I hope you find a fix soon. 

I keep some chamomile tea on hand - would share if you were here! :)
