Agnus checking in

Lately even checking in has become an opportunity for procrastination...I read everyone's check-ins, feel their feelings, relate, want to comment, debate whether I should, google for good advice for them which I never post, go into Chat for awhile, set timers and ignore them, wander from room to room, compulsively game etc. etc...much like our adorable daystarter!  (thanks, Kitty!)  Only, I'm not as cute...

SO...I am tired of being stuck like this. I want what you guys have and I'm willing to go to any length to get it. I admit I am powerless over procrastination and my life has again become unmanageable. I believe there is a Higher Power that can restore me to sanity (which as I recall, looks remarkably like productivity;-)).  Therefore it only makes sense to turn my will (thinking) and my life (actions) over to the God of my understanding.

God, please change my thinking and direct my actions to stop procrastinating and start doing the next right thing, one minute at a time, just for today, starting right now!  Thank you. Amen.

OK, I'm off to finish the lunch I started an hour ago.  Thanks for being here, y'all.

Hi,would love to discuss w/ U possibility of NYC mtg.

I've read your posts somewhere else- about how U thought about trying for a meeting, live, I already recommended it, look up my tonight's entries.  If U wish to speak sometime, {would save so much time from writing, then LAG time, writing- typos, then LAG time, waiting for all others to chime in!

So, Pls consider the places I recommended, if U are familiar w/ NYC proper- It'd be great to discuss this w/ someone, & any other issues U may have. I am a newbie to this group so any guidance, share of strength, experience, perspective would be greatly welcomed!

Thanks Agnus for trying to set things up!

Oh ALSO I read somewhere SPirit did write in  7:30, 8:30am, 11am & then 8a - i think she meant 8p  {NIGHT.} right?  I hope so, it'd be awesome if there's something in the evening. Or like I said. 1am EST, 10am, PST.. rt before bed.. doesn't have to be long.

Any thoughts??

Agnus checking back

I visited briefly with J, cleaned up the kitchen a little, ate lunch, scheduled J two dr appts, fed the cat, put laundry in dryer and more in washer, prayed on knees for relief from the procrastination. I am shocked and discouraged that these simple tasks took me more than an hour.

Up next: type up the brg ta data.  Thunder is boomin' - 'tis the season for daily storms  - but the barometric pressure and thunder make it hard to concentrate.

My Checklist

This is my first checklist, I doubt it will work, as I'll have to keep checking back and procrastinating and may actually waste time here lol. Irony.

1:40
Apply to three jobs on craigslist
Find a few more on monster
3:
Go swimming with little brothertoo cold
Shower
5: Learn everything I can about excel macros
6: Watch some big bang theory
7:Play a game of chess + simpsons
9: Possibly apply to jobs, possibly something else
My goal is to only play some flash games after I've done everything at 9. I will not install any addicting video games, and I will not visit any gaming forums.

I got some stuff done, but overall I procrastinated for several hours and failed hard at my goals.

On time today

Work outs are tough.  I'm trying not to push too hard and hurt myself.  Two weeks ago I did so many pushups that I could not touch my face.  Had to drink using a straw.

Journey wearing grumpy pants today

The pc dude just came and got my laptop to wipe and reimage it, so all my stuff is gone.  I have backups, but still.  I have a loaner, which is functional, but doesn't have all my stuff.  I'm annoyed that my daughter hasn't been keeping up with the laundry which is her job, and there are piles of clean and dirty laundry in the family room.    And I'm annoyed that because I overspent the first half of this month, I have very little discretionary money for the next two weeks.

This is my normal work from home day but I'm in the office for some f2f meetings and also for the pc dude.   The first meeting starts in 20 minutes and so far I've got nothing done except deal with the pc.    :-(:-(:-(!!!

So now that I've vented, let's see what we can salvage of the rest of the day, eh?   I'll come up with a quick todo list in the next 15 minutes then head to the meeting.   I need to spackle some makeup on my face too before heading down there.  It's allergy season so my nose and eyes are all red.  I'm annoyed about that too!

Have a productive and enjoyable day and thanks for listening to me b*tch lol.  At least the thread starter made me smile!

Hi Journey, b*tch as much as you like, if it helps you get started! Hope you'll have a more productive day later on.

Nicole

((((Hugs)))) Journey.

Sounds like you're having the kind of day that I did on Monday.  Sending some positive energy and happy vibes your way. I actually have some to spare today!Laughing

Crazybug 8:25 CI

Woke up unusually cheery today - the thread starter today made me smile even wider. Thanks Kitty!  Ain't it the truth!?

Even though I'm feeling energetic I will not over schedule myself. So here are today's (reasonable) goals.

Today's Goals:

  • Respond to S e-mail (25 min)
  • Work on reading and editing article (25 min) -
  • R&D forms (2x25min)
  • Go over migration progress (25 min)
  • Work on Ls (2x25 min)
  • Follow up with phone co-
    • Set up appt
    • Make appt for config

I also have a list of small rewards for myself for accomplishing goals today. Wishing everyone a great, productive day!

Goodies sound like such a great idea!

Ooh may I ask what kind of small rewards you have install for yourself? They sound like such great motivators! Like Santa's little goodie bag on Christmas Eve!

Rewarding myself

Goal_Allegro-

Sometimes it's food that I splurge on like fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries. I can't use candy because I'll tend to pig out.I don't allow myself to have these treats until I finish my task. This works pretty good because I know the produce will go bad if I don't eat it, so it gives me even a little more incentive! In an extreme case I even went so far as to wrap individual candies in paper with bows and an encouraging/praising message inside to give to myself for accomplishing something. Ha ha! That didn't go so well when I had a really bad day and unwrapped all the candy at once and ate it. sigh. sometimes the child in us gets the upper hand...

Sometimes it's a cup of really good tea.

Sometimes it's a promise that I will purchase something online that I needed and was intending to purchase anyway. I just don't let myself actually buy it until I accomplish a small goal. Just have to make sure it doesn't become a 30 min (or more!) online 'shopping trip'.Wink Examples are a toaster that had gone on the blitz, a bedskirt for our room, new running shoes to replace worn out ones, etc.. It works well to use free time to do the shopping online and put things in the shopping basket rather than shopping spur of the moment.

Sometimes it's a song on itunes that I've been wanting for a long while.

Sometimes it's as simple as giving myself permission to splurge on a good quality face lotion or makeup item that I really like and am almost or completely out of.

Sometimes it's points towards getting something bigger like a really good haircut, or pedicure or massage.

I tend to be very frugal and generally many materialistic things don't motivate me, so buying even small things that I need/want are a big deal.

I guess I just think of something small in my life that gives me pleasure and deny myself that thing until I accomplish a goal or set of goals.

A really silly example is that I was going out with my DH for the evening and had a nice short summer dress to wear. I hadn't shaved my legs in a while and they were in desperate need of it before we went out.  So I told myself that I had to accomplish some work goals before I would give myself permission to shave that evening. To motivate myself during the task I just thought how nice and smooth my legs would look shaved and how scary they would look not shaved! Laughing

I guess these are just really goofy mind games, but every little bit helps. I came up with this when I was working on my dissertation as it was the most absolute agonizing experience of my life.

I have to keep these little items on a written list close at hand (ex. for purchasing songs I keep a running list of music I would like to own) and just pick one that  is the most motivating to me at the time. The harder the task, the better the reward.  Having pictures of the goal are great too if you need to glance over and reaffirm why you're sticking with something.

GA this is probably much more info than you were wanting! LOL!  But, maybe it will help someone.

P.S. This was very difficult when I was severly depressed as nothing gave me pleasure.

Thank you for your Goodies idea Crazybug - It really worked!!

Nono! Your detail is awesome! It's exactly what I wanted to know!

I decided to borrow your idea and intersperse little rewards throughout my check-in day today and it REALLY worked. You wouldn't believe how much having something to look forward too (even if it's just dinner time!) helped me slug through the big and scary projects I had on today.

Thank u for the idea Crazybug!!

(And haha yes I'm a frugal little one too - sometimes I find just
researching up on something I need makes me happy.)

So glad I could help

Goal_Allegro-

I'm sooooo happy that my crazy little system could be of some help to you! I've been working on training our puppy to do tricks and thought of how the progressive rewards for increasingly more difficult tasks is exactly how I'm trying to 'train' myself.  Just as I wouldn't beat the puppy for not doing a trick right, I won't beat myself up for a dissapointing performance on a task.

I wish you all the very very best!

Goal_Allegro Check In 16/6

Thank you so much for starting the thread today Kitty! You have no idea how long I've put off checking in because I was anxious about starting new threads and letting everybody down!

This is my first check-in, so I hope I don't stuff it up. But I guess the best way to learn is by doing!

The day already started off a bit off-putting because I was awoken by a call from an employer offering me a job I'm not sure I want. They were trying to suss out whether I was really interested and in my hazy state, I'm not sure if I gave the wisest answers so now I have a bit of fear at the back of my mind about the situation. I'm just going to acknowledge that it's out of my control now, the worst case scenario isn't really that bad, and put it out of my mind as a distraction. Clean slate.

So today's tasks:

- breakfast

- get ready for run

- download new run program

- run

- input exercise/food in CK

- eat

- shower

- fill out deposit slips

- run errand for Mum

- go to bank

- post letters

- get lunch

- call Mum to confirm errand complete

- take out garbage

- line bins with new garbage bags

- wash dishes

- do 1 op

- cook dinners

- respond to Ag's email

See how we go from there..

> Allegro

Yay Goal_Allegro!

Congrats on your first check in! Don't worry about however you put it in or how much, all that's important to do to it and keep coming back! :-)
