Hi Pro Buddies!

Is today over yet? Whew!

Today: moved some items to new condo, stretched & showered at gym. Did projects at work. Deposited check. Paid bill at lunchtime. Stayed after work, because had volunteer meeting uptown. Volunteer meeting went too late. Going to sleep now.

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

Convararia still trying?? friday 9.14am, 10.35

A disastrous day of procrastination yesterday. Nothing apart from morning routine and tapping achieved.
Wondering how to go on.....I do want to get better.
Backlog seems insourmontable and keeps on growing due to nature of job, my (lack of ) abilities for it, the resentment of it and the procrastination addiction....
OK, I am home again today, have to do something...anything.....
Lets try working in 15 minute increments ala FLYLADY

  • 15 minutes house           errands on walk
  • 15 minutes self               dressed, teeth brushed and medicated
  • 15 minutes doggy walk     30 minutes
  • 15 minutes school        Yell not yet!!!!!!
  • check in at 10.25           better late than never

10.45
did stuff as above.
Walked dog for 30 minutes
dealt with demands from mother
Next........

  • 30 minutes school stuff
  • 15 minutes me
  • 15 minutes house
  • check in at 11.50

Journey 4:25 maybe pro was right . . .

An excellent day so far!  Ah, wish they could all be like this!  MITs 1-4 done.  Spending half an hour now studying . . . learning a new skill that will help me in my job.

I've noticed that most of the time lately, on good days, I start out really strong and then kinda fade out as the day goes on.  Could this mean that I am *gasp* becoming a MORNING PERSON?   Pro said it was possible but I did not believe it!  But since I've been developing the habit of going to bed on time and getting up on time, I seem to be heading in that direction!

UPDATE on ZTD (Zen to Done by Leo Babauta) Since starting this program about 6 mos. ago, I've developed the following habits - Leo recommends taking 30 days to establish a new habit but it seems to be taking closer to 60 days for me lol.

  1. Ubiquitous capture - capturing all todos in one central place
  2. Setting MITs each day - leo recommends 3.  I ususally have more than 3 on my list, but prioritize them and start with #1, then #2, etc.
  3. Going to bed on time, getting up on time, and getting my butt into the gym by 5:30 every weekday.  I've been working on this one for about two months now, making progress but still can't say it's a habit!

not concentrating. Commit to 20 minutes from now on avoided IT Okay, got started and worked steadily for the promised time. Now I'll keep going. Not working on this is more unpleasant than actually working on it.

THAT is quite an insight Chick!

Journey 10:20

Day starter done, MITs set, MIT #1 completed! Off to a good start, and feeling really good today too. Hope everyone has a great day!

I've had a bit of a dilemma lately, although I've been completing my top 3 MITs, I have been falling behind in some routine tasks like budgeting. I was considering rethinking my planning methods. But after taking a bit of spiritual time this morning, the proverbial light bulb went on again. If this task is one of the most important tasks for today, then it SHOULD BE AN MIT. Doh! Jo slaps her self in the forehead (again).

Journey 9:20

Good morning!  had a bit of a pc issue this am, had to reboot several times before I could connect to the network.   Probably due to shutting down hard at home last night, rather than letting the computer go through all of its shutdown routines lol.  This gave me time to straighten and wipe down my desk, which was really needed, and do my morning prayers/meditation, which I have been neglecting lately.   It really helps me to make a good plan for the day, and then stick to it, when I begin the day with prayer and meditation.  I had kinda been doing this backwards, making my plan first and THEN trying to fit spiritual time in somewhere.   It seems to be loads more beneficial when I take the spiritual time FIRST, even if it's only 5 minutes.

Have not yet done my day starter, bookending this now.  Back shortly with my MITs in my hot little hand.

GeorgeSmiley 7:30 AM

I was out all day yesterday, mostly at the offices of client M, mostly working on Project P-12.

Today, back in the home office. And a stack of 'to dos' as long as my left arm.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to ditch my schedule routine just for today. Instead I set 30 minute increments in my outlook calendar and just called each increment "SWITCH." Every time the alarm rings I'll move to a diffrent task on the list.

I might come back later and set some specific MITs. For now, though, my MIT is just to try to swat away as many of these tasks as possible.

I probably won't check in every half hour, but will try to often enough to help me stay on task.

Yesterday was a bad day...hoping today will be a little more successful!

Scheduled: Genetics 9:30-11:30, work on pset with CE 12-1, NM's lab mtg 3-5.

MITs:
1)Bg reading on NM
2)Document 3 datasets
3)Notes on problems with current algorithm

Other tasks: Fill out google calendar for SLP, email EA and 1 other prof, drop off direct deposit for, figure out cytoscape bug

I'm going to start with documenting the datasets...I've really been resisting that, so I need to take it a small step at a time. I'll start getting reading to leave for genetics at 8:55.

kromer 11:40 CI

I made some progress on documenting datasets, went to genetics (and actually arrived on time, which I've been having trouble with), had my lucnh. Now I'm going to spend 15 min working on documenting datasets (working in the chatbox), then go meet CE to work on pset.

kromer 11:40 PM CO

A flop of a day...

CE and I managed time very badly working on pset, so since last checkin all I did was that + NM's lab meeting. I got home 8:30, had dinner, and then talked to AG for 1.5 hours (which was something I wanted to do and was sensible to do, but I need to remember to schedule time for this). So I got through none of my MITs.

Things I learned from this:
*Go into study groups with a plan and a time limit. And consider leaving when it stops being helpful to me (it's great to help friends, but not at the expense of my own school work)
*Schedule phone time
*Use small intervals effectively...in study group breaks and other transition times I just ended up websurfing. Use website blocker, timer, chatbox in these intervals
*Keep work with me, so that I can do something useful during downtime without a computer.

OK, now I'm going to forgive myself, go to bed, and remember that tomorrow is a new day!
