Tuesday October 7th

It's Tuesday--have a good one! Thanks for being here, pro-buddies.

I can start the next thing. I can keep going. I can take a break.

Journey 3:15 busy day

I have done nothing on my list of MITs yet I've been busy all day!
Attended three meetings, put together a last minute report for boss, worked on plans for new project that arose fairly suddenly.
Now, finally starting on MY plannied MITs.  I'll at least get #1 done.  And dinner is in the crock pot already so I have some time to work on it.
Hope everyone is having a good day!

Recycler CI 6pm EST

Hi Pro Buddies!

I'm back from vacation, also had the Closing on my new condo today, and am now headed to my Real Life support group in a few minutes. Wow, do I need a meeting or what!!! ;)

I've also reactivated my Home & Garden project thread (feel free to ignore), to help me keep track of whatever I do each day toward moving (no matter how small an effort). I'm hoping to be completely moved in by the end of November.

Today: straightened rental condo in prep for Daddy to arrive mid-morning, showered & dressed at gym; did projects at office, made some moving-related phone calls, survived final inspection of new condo & Closing without becoming overwrought, had lunch with Daddy. Worked on my Home & Garden project a bit.

Now: change clothes to go to support group meeting, buy kitchen-size trash can at Target.

Have a great night, everyone! :)

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

Convalalria's attempt at recovery Wednesday 4.26am

I need to change somethingb but I am nor sure what or how.
THis morning I will:

  • morning routine (minus doggy walk)
  • tidy house for cleaners
  • think about the full teaching day and make sure I find the notes for it.
  • check when I arrive at school.

"Recovery from procrastination means doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it."

keep going Convalaria

I admire the way you check in every day, even when you are anxious or discouraged. Sending positive thoughts your way!

11:49am for Lark (from dentist), and 3:37pm

Hi folks. Just got back from the dentist: step three in the root canal saga. "To be continued next week." Actually my backside hurts more from sitting in that silly chair. Short day, so I have to be efficient (he he, me, efficient?) Hope you all do well today.
Today:
(X)morning
(X)spiritual time (in dentist chair)
(X)begin work project A
work hour on B later (when helper arrives)
(X) put clean laundry away
cleaning sweep thru workshop
(X) check in later

CL bookend

i meant to bookend the start of my browsing here, but that's past. Had to tear myself away because i started thinking about our "how would we know if we were sober" post. But that's not my job right now. That'll come at a later time when i actually have time for it.

so bookending a series of boring tasks at work that i am resisting. They feel like they'll take hours, but i know from past bookending here that they'll likely take minutes. 10:38am.

How long, clement?

Hi clement,

I know what you mean. . . sometimes those tedious jobs seem to me like they're going to take the rest of my life, even though they probably won't.

How long did the boring tasks actually take?

Journey 10:15 UPDATE 2:30 4:15 5:50

today is a work at home day and I'm getting a slow start, but I have been to the gym, read email, and set my MITs for the day.  Now to tackle MIT #1

UPDATE 2:30 It took me a loooong time to get focused and get working on MIT#1, but it is finally done. Also had a meeting at 11 which disrupted my train of thought and I was slow getting back into this task. It's a hard one, but also fun and interesting. Now break for 20 minutes and on to MIT #2.

UPDATE 4:15 MIT #2 done. Tired of sitting here! Taking a 15 minute break, then back here for MIT #3. This is a project and goals review, should be quick, but needs to be done. I have gotten out of the habit of writing down my top 10 goals on a weekly basis, and it shows. When my goals are not clearly in my mind, I end up doing things that seem important at the time, but don't really matter. Know what I mean?? lol.

UPDATE 5:50  Feel much better after reviewing and thinking about my goals.  I see how much progress I have really made in the past year.  A couple of years ago I would have died before having eight people over to dinner, or speaking in public.  Now I do those things pretty often, and I don't expect everything to be perfect every time.  I still want to be more productive at work, and do some extra study in certain areas of my job in which I am lacking skills.  I'm getting my top 3 MITs done almost every day, but I don't feel that I'm working hard enough at my job still.  So, obviously this is the area I need to work on next!

Right now I'm still building the habit of going to bed on time and getting up on time . . . but next will be working on increasing the amount of hours I actually spend getting work done!

OK, top 3 MITs are done, as usual, I thought I could get more done, but I will feel successful because the top three are done!  I am declaring victory over the work day and going to make dinner.

GeorgeSmiley 7:40 AM check-in, and updates

A little slow to get into my home office. I've decided I can let myself read political blogs (a major time-waster for me) if I read them on my wife's laptop in the kitchen rather than on my work computer in my basement office. That's helped, although I wish I hadn't lingered quite so long this AM.

Today's MITs:

#1: Project P-1: Some more research, but also some drafting

#2: Project U: Make use of the new materials I received for this project

#3: Series of items for client C.

#4: Review my task list for today, AFTER i've accomplished the above, and winnow it further.

I'm going to stop the list there. It's way too long again.

And I'm going to set timers for check-ins to help me stay more on track.

9 AM Update

I've been rather aimless the last hour-plus. Took a few stabs at writing bits of Project P-12, lots of email distraction, and further  dithering on my part because of the long task list. In fact lots of the stuff on the list really are needed for me to pursue the writing of P-12, but I wanted to honor my routine of making 7:30 - 9 am Writing time. I'm not sorry I did, and I'm just going to keep on keeping on. I'm in an "inbox" time slot now, and will use that to put some things at right angles and get some nagging smaller items out of the way.

Update: 1 p.m.

Well, last 2 hours have been mostly wasted (except for lunch).

Not good.

Resuming again work on P-12.

Agnus saying hi!

I am vacationing with J and visiting family, rare access to Internet. My vacation MITs are lovely and simple: be present, be gentle, be helpful. Savor the moments, espec with Dad and Mom. Listen for HP guidance. Appreciate.

Wish every day could be so for all of us! Miss you all and of course my wonder-puppy TJ back home. Might check in again later this week. Take care, friends.

Enjoy your well-deserved rest and relaxation, Agnus!

kromer 7:30 CI

This morning is crunch time (I have a meeting with PF at 3:30, and I still have a bunch of test results to look at).

Specific tasks:
*Basic analysis for dataset1 (mostly done)
*" " dataset2
*" " dataset3
*Review results for datasets 4 and 5
*Make graphic of results for dataset 1
*Make graphic of result for dataset

I'm going to work on this until 9, then leave for class, then come back to it when class ends at 12:30.

kromer 12:30 CI

Back from class, now I need to finish preparing for mtg.

This morning I did basic analysis for dataset1 and started analysis for dataset 2. I'm going to take an hour and finish basic analysis for 2 and 3, then I'll update here.

kromer 2:00 CI

A little slow, but I just finished basic analyses for 2 and 3. Now I'm going to take 20 min to review basic analysis results from datasets 4 and 5 and write a brief summary of basis analysis results for all datasets. Then I'm going to make graphics for results from datasets 1 and 3. Frequent updates to keep me on track!

kromer 5:15 CI

A good afternoon...I got through data analysis and had a good meeting w/ PF. Then I went to bio seminar, which was really interesting.

I've been working quite hard the past few days, so this evening will be a little slower-paced than normal. Here's what I still need to get done (looks like a long list, but they're mostly pretty small tasks):
*Notes from mtg w/ PF
*Fill out direct deposit form
*mail driving record form (Prepped for mailing, but now too late to go to mailbox)
*finish reading 2 stem cell papers
*finish reading rt-pcr paper
*Background reading on EA's work
*choose 1 other prof of interest and email
*a bunch of quick emails: EA, SC, ED, CV and PJ, lab mtg
*Tidy the kitchen and fold laundry if I have time

And I'm going to watch the debate, have a good dinner and not stress too much.

Right now I'm going to take notes from mtg w/ PF and finish the rt-pcr paper. Then I'm going to go home, have dinner, and deal w/ direct deposit and driving record forms. Back after that.
