Journey 9:15

good night all!  going to bed on time, after doing the dishes and folding some laundry.  A very good day.  Oh, and I'm going to do my skin care routine!

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

Sorry for the double :-P Chemgirl Thursday 11.29am

It is a beautiful day here :)

Not sure I will be able to get much thesis stuff done as dbaby just had another nap where she wouldn't sleep unless I stayed, and also it was short.  In terms of other stuff, I am pretty up to date.

So, MITs for today:

-thesis if I have a chance (another naptime or something), otherwise I am taking day off, yay! Not done, but OK, didn't get a kid-free chance

-change dd4's bedding done

-Hang 3 loads of laundry done

-fold all laundry not done

-Make lemon water done

-Begin transferring stuff to new phone not done

Not a great day, but was a nice break.  Problem is that today (thurs) I am feeling very unmotivated and having a break yesterday has kind of made me lose momentum.  Baby is asleep now, will write MITs and try to get onto thesis before she wakes.

Happy wednesday everyone :)

Recycler CI 6:50pm EST

Hi Pro Buddies!

Wednesday: OK, I'll have a double! :)

The day began with news of the dad of one of my bosses becoming seriously ill; so 100+ people & me emotionally reacting to that, so that kind of sums up the day, with changing bunches of stuff for other bosses to fill in, etc. + dealing with an additional Emergency situation.

Waiting for replies on 2 things. Waiting patiently for one. Followed up on the other one; still waiting for the other(s) to proceed to the next step.

Did projects at work, but it was mostly the emergency requests & last-minute changes. Rode train home.

Tonight: enjoy being at home; then try stuff again tomorrow.

Have a great night, everyone! :)

Recycler

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

Falcon Wednesday CI

Whew, I've had a busy couple of days and been out a lot.  It's nice to be home this evening.

Stuff to do:

  • Practice
  • Exercise
  • Eat
  • Look at emailed links (and only emailed links!  No wandering off to surf!)
  • Email L.
  • Answer personal ad
  • Set out clothes for tomorrow

Falcon

Oh. . . and:

  • Answer email from L2
  • Figure out response to message from M

Forgot about those 'cause I don't feel like doing them.  Tongue out

Journey 3:30

Ah, waiting for my grandson to come over, workday is done!  I worked almost 12 hours yesterday so I feel justified in knocking off for the day now.  Although I don't really have 12 hours worth of work to show for it lol, I got more done today in 6 hours that I did yesterday in 12 . .. funny how that works.

Anyway, I mostly did administrative stuff and attended meetings today, and had a pretty good day.  Now I need to go readjust the baby's car seat as my daughter-in-law instructed me.  :)

Still need to make dinner, do dishes, and fold some laundry, but feeling pretty good about today.

bookending reading here for encouragement, already 5 min under way. usually takes 10. ok to stretch to 15 maybe.

alright it was like 40 min, but i had 2 works interruptions, and two other work things that could have waited in that 40 min.

Now quiet time: 1:46pm.

Journey 11 am

Another late check in lol, but having a good day.  Busy . ..

I have been to the gym (did TWO classes this morning, been a long time since I've done that), read email, set my MITs, attended two meetings and done MIT #1.  Whew!

Now I'm going to finish processing all email.  I've been doing really good at keeping my email inbox empty, although the snail mail PILE is growing.

Then a quick shower, I really need one. :)

Agnus checking in

Momentary anxiety :? Which "Wednesday, Sept. 24"?? Looks like 2 friends posted thread-starters at exact same moment - what are odds? Others posted here, so I'll follow-and thanks to Kromer and Chick (really pretty photo!). :) Grateful for "humpday" - this is a busy week!  MITs:

  • financial stuff including run to the bank to prevent overdrafts (how does that keep happening??Yell), find missing receipts, give J downpayment for lg purchase.
  • draft LOAs for VA, IA - now urgent
  • take scheduled breaks!  (building this new habit requires making it a MIT for awhie)
  • work the AP plan
  • 30 minutes physical activity
  • Step meeting tonight

Hope everyone has a happy HP-in-charge day!Wink

Ag 1:55pm

I have strayed far, far afield...after banking and some financial paperwork I have been shopping craigslist and ebay for more than an hour now. I am hungry and anxious!  Ratting myself out, starting anew, and bookending lunch. Back at 2:15.

Ag 245

Did not check in at 2:15 as planned but wasn't goofing off: I actually took the nasty piles of receipts to the table with me and started sorting them to look for the ones J needs. Found all 3 - yayhoo!  And did a lot of sorting that will make bookeeping easier later.

Now to run tracer on the postal receipt I found...

Ag 4pm

Sorry for all the posts, gang, but I'm really struggling and need the extra accountability. I ran the tracer, made the calls, and took an incoming client MUT I've been working on for the last hour. Sending that now, and getting back to MITs - making a conscious decision to set aside the lousy feelings about the fact that I'm only now really getting to "work."

Convalaria's Recovery Tuesday 7.11am

Hit a wall last night and could not keep going. Overate. Went to bed early without brushing teeth or looking after my skin.
I HATE ANXIETY!!!
I need some sort of strategy.  Evenings are difficult for me.

On a happier note found 2 rewards that feel like rewards to me.  Perfume and fragrant flowers.

  • I have perfume that I rarely use. That is going to change.
A spritz when I feel and know that I am functioning well.....
  • A bunch of fragrant flowers weekly to cheer me in recovery. Yesterday morning I bought some lilly of the valley (Genus Convalaria) something rare in this part of the world but totally appropriate as a gift to me from me. Serendipity at work.

Today:

  • Morning routine
  • have to go to a funeral (not some close to me, rather in support of people I love)
  • 30 minutes house work befor I go
  • 30 minutes school sorting (The BACK LOG pile on the dinning room table)
  • check in once I return I expect around 12 noon

"Recovery from procrastination means doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it."

Convalaria's recovery 14.08 pm, 18.30

Back. The funeral and activities associated with it took longer than expected. I have put on a load of washing and chatted to one of my sons. Also a coffee and some fruit.
What Next???? So much to do.

  • read here for a short while
  • sort 10 chem notes for 1 hour
  • house work for 1 hour
  • backlog sorting for 1 hour
  • check in around 17.30

18.30

Not quire as planned.
No house work.
Ahort nap and a coffee with friend
AND
Sorting, Sorting, sorting
Going out now to celebrate a birthday

Something good...Even though I have hit a wall a few times I have not been paralysed all week

"Recovery from procrastination means doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it."

lilly of the valley (Genus Convalaria)

That is SO cool!  And I love the perfume idea...what a nice treat.  Aromas are very connected to the emo part of the brain....I saw a study that said peppermint aromas reduce the urge to overeat for some people - don't know if that would work for me - I think it would just make me want to eat a whole bunch of peppermint candy!  Surprised

Hope your day goes great and your evening shows just a teensy bit of progress, Convalaria...you can do it!

Hi Ag ! Please keep posting!

There is no need to apologise for frequent posting.
Checking in is a tool for accountability.
This is my understanding of how this board works.
On a personal level ......It helps me to know that I am not alone in my struggles.

"Recovery from procrastination means doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it."

amen!

Ag hugs ((convalaria ))

Thanks for the warm encouragement. It really helps on days like this. I'm glad we do that for each other here.  At last, after going to Chatbox to work my way through a bunch of icky feelings, I got back to work and managed to complete one more MIT:

  • DONE!! \o/ draft LOAs for VA, IA - now urgent
  • yay!       /\

GeorgeSmiley, 8:37 AM

Working outside my home office today, at the offices of Client M. This morning will be a bit less structured in some ways. My MIT#1 is to do spadework on Project P12. But I also brought along my overflowing reading pile, and will use some of the time to winnow that considerably.

I'll be home mid afternoon. Unless I get into a jam I probably won't check in until then....

The Hero's Code:

Show up. Pay Attention. Speak the Truth. Let Go of the Outcome.

Lark at 8:51am ,3:07pm, 11:53pm

Hi everyone. There's rain and generally foul weather approaching, so it's outside stuff for today. A client- friend has an urgent task for me, and I also need to get an important task done for finances' sake. It'll be a busy morning.
Today:
(X)morning
(X)spiritual time
(X)call client A with bill
(X)finish project for friend
(X)finish important project
(sort of), clean kitchen table
(X)mow grass (haven't for days)
(X)check in later

kromer 7:50 CI

I've been less succesful than I would like the last couple days, I think partly because my list of MITs has been huge and I haven't been able to get them all done. Today I'm going to try writing a more focused list of MITs.

Scheduled: Probability class 2:30-4, SLP mtg 6-7:30

MITs:
*Write up stem cell growth problem and email PT
*Finish problem set
*Email EA
*Take notes from mtg with PT!!

Other tasks (this is just a brain dump for now, I can worry about prioritizing when I finish my MITs:
*Read 1st miRNA paper
*Read 2nd miRNA paper
*Take notes on how PP idea worked
*Take cans for deposit
*Balance checkbook
*email TH
*brainstorm why STRING didn't work
*Pay credit card bill
*Call home

I'm going to start with the problem set. Updates every problem, check in again when it's done.

Update 8:15--one problem done.

kromer 10:20 CI

Finished problem set! Now I'm going to take care of my 2 short MITs (taking notes from mtg w/ PT, then emailing EA). Then I'll do a couple of short non-MITs that can only be done while I'm at home (deposit cans, balance checkbook, pay credit card bill--I'll allow 45 min max for all these tasks). Then I'll head to campus and check back in.

Update 11--finished the short MITs, now I'm going to take care of the non-MITs, back at 11:45 whether I'm done or not!

kromer 11:45 CI

Did my short MITs and all the above non-MITs (I hope...my bank's new credit card payment system shows money disappearing from your account but not showing up as a payment, which is a bit disturbing, so I need to keep an eye on it for the next few days...). Now I'm going to bike to campus, and go to lab to work on my last MIT for the day (writing up stem cell growth problem). Update when I get to lab, frequent updates on my progress with that MIT.

Update 12:25--in lab now, am going to write up clear statement of assumptions and make example table.

Update 1:20--Wrote up asssumptions and made example table. Now I'm going to take a 5 -min break, then take the following next steps on this MIT:
*Check that simple example agrees with my more general equations
*choose reasonable numerical values for parameters in example, and write up explanations of why I chose them
*Make a graph of simple example.

Update 2:30--chose parameters and made a graph of simple example
Unfortunately simple example does not agree with my more general equations, so after class I'll have to figure out why that is.

kromer 5:50 CI

After class, I was exhausted, so I took at 30 min nap, a 30-min dinner break, and a 15 min walk (a reasonable use of time), then read junk online for 30 min (*not* a good use of time). Now it's time for SLP mtg. I'm going to leave by 7:30, bike home. When I get home I commit to spending 30 min working on stem cell growth project before I take a break.

kromer 7:30 CI

Actually got out of the meeting on time, yay!

I realize if I go home there's no way I'll avoid the temptation to take a break, so I'm going to do my 30 min work on my MIT *now*, while I'll still on campus, then bike home and take a break.

I'm going to try and figure out why my previous general equations don't give the right answer for my simple example. Then I'm going to start working out equations for when symmetric and assymetric division happen at different rates.

Update 8:05--OK, figured out that my previous general equations were wrong, fixed them. Started thinking about diff. rates issue but haven't gotten far. Going to go home now, take a break/have a snack, then hopefully finish this up.

kromer 11 CI

I did again what I've done the previous few days...get home, take my break and then end up spending 1+ hr on the phone (part of the was phone call with my parents, which at least was semi-planned), and then be too fried to complete anything hard.

Not a totally wasted day...I got through 3/4 of my MITs and made really good progress on the 4th, and had good focus 8-4 and 6-8...that said, the 4th MIT has to be done by tomorrow at 2:30, so it's a bit of a problem. But there's just no way I can get it done when I'm this tired. I'm going to spend 15 min now reading papers, then I'm going to shower, go to bed and get up 6:30 tomorrow to finish 4th MIT.

keeping going!

Kromer, your lists always look long to me and I find it inspiring to see you you fit in both big and small things and keep at it.
