I can take one small step... I can start... I can be human.....

Have a good MONDAY !

I must take time to play... I can choose to start with a small step... I can value my effort

Recycler CI 10:10pm EST

Hi Pro Buddies!

I am getting in so late! I am so tired! This will be the quickest check-in ever!

Today: walked, stretched, got to work early. Filled in for our receptionist while she was out. Ordered some sale items. Type volunteer minutes during lunch. Did other projects during the day. Met with 1 boss. Re-edited project list. Did some projects, but partly spinning wheels. Walked home. Drove to support group. Sponsor was not there, so could not meet with sponsor. Emailed International friend and emailed sponsor when got home. So sleepy! Going to sleep now!

Have a great night, everyone! :)

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

corgi tush!

Awww, my family used to have a (very cranky) corgi.

Looks like you had a pretty good day.

The adrenaline you've been living on only leaves you wanting.

Journey 5:20

Worked on MIT #3 - although it took me a while to get into it, once I got started I made some progress.  Headed home now.  I need to stop by the grocery store, stop by the credit union, make a quick dinner and do the dishes.   I think that will be enough.  This has been a long day and I'm tired.

kromer 5:05 CI

Went to probability class, got through 3/4 of 1 S+H paper and 1/2 of the other (and met w/ JR to plan presentation on them). So I'm mostly done with my MITs

Now I'm going to do some logistical tasks, so I'll be able to finish up my MITs in the evening.
*Print probability notes
*Print new copies of Harambee contracts (I lost the old copies, so I need to kill some trees :-( )
*Take notes from mtg w/ PF
*Email PF
*Email DR
*Take notes from mtg w/ JR

Journey 11 am UPDATE 1 pm 1:50

I've done MITs #1 and #9.  Why did I do #9 instead of a higher priority item, you may ask?  A very good question my friends.    On to #2.

Update 1:09 Had a lunch meeting.  Before the meeting did #4, because it was a 30-min task and I had 30 minutes.   Now, take about 20 min. lunch break, then #3.  #3 is a 2 hour task, but when it is done, I will have finished my top 3 most important tasks for the day.

Update 1:50 ahhh, I do not want to do MIT #3.  I will allow myself to spend the next 7 minutes organizing my messy desk, then dive into #3.

Agnus checking in; and check-back 12:45 and 6:15

Great to see everybody this morning. I love recovery! So grateful today.  I have committed to God, myself and another human being that one day at a time, I will abstain from work bingeing. I did another all-nighter Thursday and was so exhausted Saturday that I forgot a MIT that will cost me serious money...so what did I profit by pulling the all-nighter? Doh.

I'm also opening my mind about my sabbath ideal. It's not my religion, just usually beneficial.  This weekend I had to surrender it, and it actually worked out very well. Instead of banning all work, I let myself sort of fritter around here and there, and actually got a LOT of stuff done around the house.

But that was yesterday, and this is today, and I've already had calls with sponsor and sponsees, a 12-step meeting, took stuff to the accountant and did the day's banking. Next MITs:

  • DONE - MIT #1 - Check through paper pile for MUTs and MITs
  • DONE - MIT #2 - AP project noon call
  • DONE - MIT #3 - AP project, 3pm dry run
  • DONE - MIT #4 - 5 pm allocate hours, plan tomorrow
  • DW project
  • on way - 7pm meeting - a personal favorite!

Not a bad day a-tall for a PAer...thanks HP and thanks everyone for being here.

Lark at 9:56am

Hi everyone. My electricity was off for 12 hours, and now it's back on for a few minutes, off for a bit. The fridge is getting cold, so the food should stay okay. It's just amazing motivated one can be when something like that happens. "If the power was on, I'd clean the house, laundry, get thus and such done..." Then back to old mode! I hope everyone else here hasn't been badly affected by the weather.
Today:
(X)morning things
spiritual time
rescue friend who broke down
meet with rep from supplier
clean off table (before the pile takes root)
work project A
go to bank
return movie
clean out car
laundry
hour or so on project B

glad to hear from lark

grateful that power-glitches are your worst outcome, lark. and LOL about how that triggers all the old ways of thinking. Good catch on yourself! :-)

Thanks Agnus

Yup, one way of stopping a behavior is telling someone about it. Today didn't turn out as I'd hoped (power went off, for one thing), but ALL the laundry is done, and I helped a couple of friends. I went to a meeting of my 12 step group this evening and someone I know showed up,I was able to help out. Hmmm, gratitude.

Journey 9:20

Morning . . .

Been to the gym, read email, set my MITs for the day.  Coffee break time!  When I come back, write up notes from Friday's meeting.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

kromer 8:55 CI

OK, today's going to be hard (and I'm not as prepared as I'd like), but I'll get through it, and do the best job I can with the preparation I have.

Scheduled tasks:
*Check pset with CE, 12-1
*Mtg w/ PF, 1-1:30
*Probability class, 2:30-4
*Harambee, leave 5:30 return 8:45

MITs:
*Deposit check
*Email JR about paper presentation
*Make schedule for week
*Email PT
*Spend 20 min taking notes for mtg w/PF
*Brainstorm reasons why STRING interactome didn't give great results
*Simple look at overrep. connections in NRIP1 res.

Other tasks:
*Clean bathroom
*Read 1st S+H paper
*Read 2nd S+H paper
*Spend 30 min organizing papers in room
*Email PR and CY
*Find Harambee contracts
*Brg1 job with randomization runs

I'm going to start by emailing JR about paper presentation (MIT), then I'll start some calcs for Brg1 job (not an MIT, so I'll limit this to 30 min), then I'll look at overrp. connections in NRIP1 res.

kromer 10:55 CI

Haven't done so well this evening...came home from Harambee, then ended up spending time on the phone with parents and AG, and hanging out with roommates, rather than working on my MITs. So I'm not going to finish my MITs tonight...I'm going to make up the schedule tonight, and then shower and go to bed.

kromer 1:30 CI

OK, I've done 2 scheduled tasks (check pset+mtg), 4 mits (deposit check, email JR, take notes for mtg, simple look at overrep. connections). Mtg went OK, and I'm relieved that it's over.

Now unfortunately I'm going to have to focus on MUTs rather than on MITs...I'm going to take a quick lunch break and take notes from the mtg, then I urgently need to read the S+H papers.

kromer 10 CI

OK, hard time keeping focus on MITs: I emailed JR, but then got caught up working on Brg1 analysis...I've made some progress on that, now I'm going to push myself to work on MITs (simple analysis of NRIP1 data, then go deposit check)

Good luck Kromer

We really admire what you're doing, though most of us find it difficult to understand. My college years dealt mainly with pencils and paper. There was one incident with some ferocious lab rats, but I prefer not to go there. I, for one, am inspired by your efficiency on this site. Thanks for being here, and good luck.

Kromer meets with prof at 1300

Good luck!  I know you are always anxious about these meetings, but they usually turn out ok :)

GeorgeSmiley 7:41 AM; 9:36 AM; 11 AM; 2 PM; 2:30 PM; 6:16 PM

Good morning, all...

Lots of MIT's today and too little time to do them all. Important to set priorities.

MIT#1: Complete Project R rewrite by noon.

MIT#2: Work on Project T -- even if just 30 minutes or less

MIT#3: Work on Project D -- even if just 30 minutes or less

MIT#4: Work on Project U -- even if just 30 minutes or less

MIT#5: Work on Project P-11

This is my second week of experimenting with the new time routine I outlined a little more than a week ago. I'm starting late, but I can still adjust and catch up.

Update, 9:36 AM:  One thing that continues to eat up time: various work-related housekeeping tasks (managing email, my in-basket, etc. But I'm continuing to strive to keep those tasks contained within short windows of time allotted under my new routine...

Continuing to work on Project R.

Update, 11 AM:  Making progress on the Project R rewrite, but again I start getting very distracted and find myself wanting to indulge in old escapes. So far I'm staying on task.

But I also get hungry a lot, and need to do something about that, both immediately and on a regular basis.

I have a phone call to make, and then I'll get some lunch and do some more in-basket tasks until 11:30.

Update, 2 PM: Not much progress but lots of stuff "done" that wasn't on the list.

~ate lunch

~Took older son to work

~mostly cleaned out an overflowing in-basket.

~Composed and sent a long co-parenting note to my ex-wife. [Not to be confused with Mrs. GS.]

Now I've pretty much got no option but to resume work on Project R!

But Projects T, D, U, and P-11 will all get pushed over until tomorrow, because I need to leave in about 90-120 minutes...

Update, 2:30 PM:  As soon as I signed off I stopped to check personal email and found I'd received an online gift certificate from a relative, so instead of going about my work I drifted over to the site and began lookingat products to buy. I've now shaken that off so it's back to work where I was 30 minutes ago.

Last update for the day: 6:15 PM: I had to leave for a part-time job at 3:45 and didn't come back here before that.

Today was a pretty good day, but the way that these house-keeping tasks cut into my toughest projects is, I'm sure, no accident, and something I'm still struggling with.

See you all tomorrow...

I have a meeting with prof today at 1, for which I'm not prepared at all. So I need to make my bed, pack a lunch, pack up my stuff and get my butt to lab. Check in from lab with a plan.

Convalaria said "I surf, I watch television, I fall asleep on the couch, I do not even brush my teeth and the BACKLOG grows.....

Ah, I'm the same way, when I get home from work I just want to relax BUT there are chores to be done!  I have had some success with doing chores for 30 minutes as soon as I get home, before I let myself sit down in front of the tv or computer screen.   It's important to know that you do have free time to look forward to, though.  If I tell myself I'm going to work, work, work, from the time I get home until time to get ready for bed, I'm sure to resist and end up not getting any chores done.

Good luck!

Jo

Convalaria, 14pm Tuesday

Thank you Jo!
The trouble is that I really do not want to......
I want the income, the interaction with colleagues but I am really tired of the incesant nature of the job.
I guess tha attitiude needs to change.
Scheduling my priorities would help.
I know that my morning routne works well....
I use most of my time at school quite well.
The weekends and afternoons and evenings at home need to change drastically!!!
The term breaks also need to have a component of structure as well

Where do I start???

Now and after school I choose to:

  • continue marking
  • 15 minutes sorting
  • leave by 3.30
  • petrol
  • bones
  • shoemaker
  • walk doggy
  • call Y
  • call G
  • Check in

chickadee followup

Okay, today (Tues.) I started with the things that I avoided yesterday.

First thing. Not so bad :D :

way to grow chick!

PA has really improved my ability to be rigorously honest about my procras addiction...and that factor was essential for me to get better. You can do it, too!  Keep going, chickadee. :-)

thanks agnus

It's inspiring to hear that from you Agnus--thank you!

Well, I have to admit to myself that the way I posted that list was so telegraphic that it wasn't completely honest because I can't go back and check things off since I don't remember what they all were...

On the plus side, today I have made starts on a lot of things I wanted to avoid, following the advice that just getting out the folder and taking one step is better than nothing. I hope it's part of moving away from all-or-nothing thinking.
