Today: walked + treadmill ;) stretching exercises, work. Did some projects. Kept project list updated. Met with boss.
Found out condo closing will be delayed at least one more week. ((sigh)). This slowed me down a bit at work (demotivated aftereffect). Rode train home, ate snack. Support group meeting. Meet with sponsor; talked about a different topic, a rejection experience this last week. Checked in with my online groups upon arriving home. Time to turn in now :)
That's what I'm doing: checking in anyway. Even tho it's after 7 pm and even though I've not been focused at all and even tho...you know the routine. I've even procrastinated eating...and I'm too spaced out on it all to even feel bad about (yet)...anyway just here checking in because I said I would, and I do want recovery...just maybe not very much today...
I wonder if I'll feel hungover tomorrow from all this procrastinating today.
At work early. Had to give son an unexpected ride to work. Morning routine not done, will have to catch up after work.
Last night had a chance to go have a rare treat. LIve theatre....
I've been very busy the past few days (too busy to procrastinate, wow!) but now I need to be back.
Tonight I'm going to:
*10 min Harambee prep+go to Harambee
*Read 2nd A+D paper
*Make gamma graph
*1 hr brainstorming about research project
*Move furniture back into room, organize school papers
attended a virtual meeting, then did my budget for the 15th . . . and although I should have done the budget over the weekend and didn't, it was still hard work! Taking 10 and then getting started (started!!) on MIT #1 for the day, which is to finish up product install on System 3 of 4. Boss added something to the project at the virtual meeting, but the install has to be finished before I can think about that part, so might as well proceed down the path I'm already on. I'll work until 5:30 instead of knocking off at 4 since I really spent an hour on non-work related personal business :)
I'm feeling very tired . . . partly due to staying up too late last night, and partly due to car breaking down stress . . .I WILL go to bed by 9:30 tonight. I may feel that I'm too keyed up to sleep at 9:30 but I betcha if I go to bed anyways I will fall asleep. I always do :)

morning squandered; need to be productive the rest of the day:
- fix new customer issues
- deal w/ 3 things from email re q
- layout issue analysed
- clock 8 hours
- comment thang in test
- research tooltip/popup
- exercise
- try out vpns (get switcher for monitors)
- cmp mayo/vcu used images count
- examine UP slow query log
- shower/shave
- pay cable bill
- clean off desk
- review bz items
- no Scrabble unless all of the above are completed
Well, the day started out nicely and then got a phone call from dd that her car stalled out in traffic twice this morning. It started back up ok, but dh recommended NOT driving it until it's checked out. So, she parked it, I went to the rescue and we had it towed to our friendly neighborhood mechanic. Oh, well, sh*t happens.
I emailed work and told them I'd work from home whenever I got here, and I took advantage of the situation by stopping by to get a long-overdue haircut. Now I'm home and going to start work at noon and work til about four. I'll need to take her to school tomorrow so I'll probably end up working two half days and taking a day of vacation. If the car is out of commission for a long time, I'll need to come up with a Plan B but at this point I'm hoping for a quick automobile recovery.
So, I get a 10 minute goofing around on the computer break, then start the day over.
Back by 12:30 or so with my MITs for the day, or what's left of it! Luckily this is not a busy time at work for me, as my current projects are non-deadline type things. Although the lack of deadlines is not conducive to procrastination avoidance, it is nice when things like this arise. (hehe I initially mispelled arise as "arse").
So turning on break timer.

I'm trying my new routine today (see the master lists forum for details). I used the first half hour this morning to catch up on some emails and sort others for response later.
Now I'm going to take 1.5 hours working on Project R and staying focused on that.
**UPDATE, 8:53 AM: I've made a big breakthrough on Project R, after weeks of struggling with it. I really do need to get a draft finished as much as possible today, so I can ship it to the editor by 9 a.m. tomorrow.
A key step was rereading an old favorite feature-writing book this past weekend and realizing a number of "pre-writing"--indeed, pre-reporting--steps I never took on this project. The book's approach to analyzing material and shaping stories has long been my "bible" for this kind of writing. But in recent years many of my assignments have been a bit more straightforward and to the extent this sort of analysis was needed I did it in my head.
I'm going to spend about 15 minutes on some inbox and housekeeping matters, then swing right back into this project. I'll check in at 9:15 before I resume Project R.
**UPDATE 9:20 AM: Well, the time slips a little but that's OK. I got a few "inbox" tasks done and now it's back to Project R. So far it's a good day.
Thank you everyone for all you do!
**UPDATE 12:30 PM: I've gotten some more work done on Project R, and interspersed that with my 'inbox winnowing' . I'm staying on task pretty well, although it could be better.
I'm resuming Project R again, with a 1-hour window. At 2 p.m. I have a phone appt., then back to Project R. I might not check in again until after the phoner.
**OOPS: 12:45 PM: OK, starting again. I spent last 15 minutes tweaking some tools rather than doing real work. So I'm starting again.
The phone interview went fine and then I jumped right back into Project R as I wanted to, and I've been slogging at that. But this time of day is always a vulnerable one for me. I start to get drowsy and distracted. Any of a number of diversions pulls at me.
I'm going to go upstairs check mail and get a breath of fresh air from outside. Then I'll come back down and spend 5 minutes in the inasket. Then back to work. I'll check in here again first.

I haven't managed to concentrate this evening...I prepped for/went to Harambee and moved furniture back into my room, but that's it so far.
So my revised goal is to read A+D and to organize papers, then go to bed. I'll start with A+D and check in every 15 min with progress report.
Update 10:40--after a bit of goofing off, managed to buckle down and have gotten through 1.5 pages
Update 11:20--continuting on, but have gotten bogged down in mathematical appendix, may take a while to get through

Aargh... I'm hitting a stall again; UPDATE: a little progress
** 3:23 PM I've really gotta finish this. I'm starting to panic. Taking some deep breaths and starting again.
** UPDATE 4:05 PM Some progress and keeping slogging through.
Dare I take any kind of a break?
If so, what's healthy? And what turns into a time sink?
** UPDATE 5:44 PM Things are crawling along. A little more progress. I'm feeling like Molasses.
But I really have to finish this tonight.
GeorgeSmiley, 8:23 PM
I've had a nice dinner and a couple-hour break.
I've got to keep working on this (ie, project R) no matter how late it takes tonight.
I'm trying to recapture the enthusiasm with which I began the day when I felt I'd gotten a big breakthrough on this project.
I don't know if I've been exactly procrastinating, but I have been just moving so slowly on writing this.
