Another Monday

Another New Start

ZZZZZZZZZZZ

Recycler CI 10pm EST

Hi Pro Buddies!

Some things about today seemed to be like a New Start, so that is good :)

Today: elliptical, stretched, work, bought groceries for work, walked at lunchtime, made phone call for support, did errand by e-mail, checked for confirmations on-line (no confirmation yet ;), had chiropractor appt, bought replacement cooking dish, Support Group meeting, meeting with sponsor afterward.

Tonight: read inspirational literature, go to bed almost on time ;)

Have a great night, everyone! :)

meeting nearly all day. When it was over, not too bad getting back on sched.

Now i feel resistance for the next MIT, so owning that here. Thankful that this site provides a vehicle to channel that resistance.

Here i go. Should be back at 6:30pm.

...back at 6:33. not bad for a chronic procrastinator! Now family time.

another dreaded MIT (family time 1 done). I got thru it by microbursts.

Rick's Monday Check In 12pm

I had had a good morning working without a break on my daily routines. Its easy to sluff on Mondays, but a good start should help my week.

Here are my MITs

- QSYFM Project
- TRIP BILLS - IN THE MAIL!
- S JOB LIST
- DESK/BOX
- WORKOUT
- CHECKOUT

It’s not the sentiments of men which make history but their actions. - Norman Mailer

Fighting Avoidance

I had such a great morning, all routines. But when I faced some old tasks, I could feel a emotional and even physical sense of dread. Its all about how I deal with the pain caused by little daily reminder of my shame. I felt physically ill. I avoided for a while, but then used a timer to dive in and get something done. I'm still feeling more stress than relief for now. I want so badly to escape my dark cave and burst into the sunlight, but the path is so cluttered with reminders of my failures and fears. For now I'll stab at some more tasks, and then take a break and try to get our for a walk before bed.

reminders of shame

i know what you mean. I had to dig thru some accumulated muck of my procrastination yesterday, and it put me in a down mood.

> escape my dark cave and burst into the sunlight

yeah. i love that accurate & vivid image.

re: shame

Yes, this is a great observation.  When I try to work on a task that I'm already late or behind on, the first thing that happens is feeling that overwhelming sense of shame, "I should have already finished this".   This feeling totally gets in the way of doing the actual work.

What works best for me is to just stop thinking about what didn't get done yesterday, or last week, or 10 years ago.  And just focus on what I need and want to get done TODAY.

One day at a time!

Wow, yes, the shame is a stopper

Thank you for sharing these observations!  I am working Step 4 on my procrastination and it has been difficult to identify this feeling and articulate just what makes me stop short of actually doing even the small tasks toward the backlog. Shame is definitely it, a cacophony of Authority voices, real or imagined, that constantly accuse me.

Here's what I'm thinking: I can choose to believe the shame, or I can choose to believe my Higher Power, who wants to help me become happy, joyous and free. Surrendering to shame is a form of idolatry that I no longer want in my life.  By working the 12 Steps and applying the PA Tools as best I can today, I act on the decision I made in Step 3.  It's like a bam!-kapowie! against the shame.

kromer 12:40 CI

OK, I'm doing OK, but not great.

Last night, I was freaking out about apts/work, so I just gave up and went to bed early. Not the best way of coping!

But this morning I got through some work (writing script to get up/down regulated genes). And I submitted an apartment application, and the landlord said she'd get back to me within 24 hours. Fingers crossed! I realized there was no possible way I could make the 1pm mtg with my advisor, so I emailed to postponed and he was OK with it..not the most responsible, but I think better than showing up without my tasks completed. Now my challenge for the afternoon is to concentrate on work and Harambee preparation despite apartment stress!

Realistically, I'm not going to be a productive as usual today. I'm just going to take my work step by step and try to at least get a little bit done.

My first goal is to fix source connections...there's some bug there. (DONE 1:25)

Then, I'm going to see if my code to write ampl files works. (STARTING)

I'll check back when those 2 tasks are done.

Update 2:00-I've done the first task. The second task involves debugging some fairly slow code, so I'm doing some other work in parallel. I've submitted timecards and made up a tentative schedule for the week.

My other tasks to get done this afternoon are:
*Make an overview graphic for multicommodity flow
*Finish processing easy datasets (could also get done this evening)
*Prep Harambee curriculum on 'finding your passion'
*Try running AMPL on files created by my code.

In parallel with debuggint my code, I'm going to  make an overview graphic for multicommodity flow...this is a task that will be fairly easy to do even though my focus isn't great.

kromer 9 CI freaking out again

potential landlord hasn't called any of my references yet so I'm quite worried.

I did prep Harambee curriculum and go to harambee, but none of the girls showed up (not a huge surprise, as the boys' group was on a field trip and we suspect they tagged along, but still annoying. Teenagers! )

I fixed the source connectings and worked on AMPL code, but haven't finished that yet. And I have a meeting with my advisor tomorrow. This is so frustrating that I'm having such a hard time concentrating!

My priorities for tonight are to prep AMPL files and try running AMPL on them. Anything else is gravy. I'll work in the chatbox and check in frequently here.

hugs to Kromer!

Hi Kromer!

Good luck with everything! Talk to you later! :)

Rita ci 11:25 am

Started with prayer, meeting. I blew off my original plan to work 9-5 today because the sponsee wanted to talk so we went to bank and breakfast. Skipped exercise; need to watch that as I have skipped it now for more than a week. Came home and instead of getting right to work in my office, I dawdled around doing housework, pet care. Finally settling into my office (which is at home, a real challenge), with these MITs:

  • Computer clean-up
  • Order J's power cord
  • DWS job-prep course
  • Spend 30 minutes on debit-receipts backlog
  • Send thank-you notes to last week's facilitators

R 6:45pm

well so much for this day....I got the computer clean-up done. No other MITs yet. Friend called with a genuine crisis and will come here for the night, so I did some needed housecleaning. Sis called and Dad is in the emergency room, maybe bad, or maybe an Alzheimer's panic attack. Storms knocked out our a/c but after multiple phone calls I found a serviceman who would tell me how to reset it without charging me a service call. My truck tags are expired, J is gone with the car, and the dog is sick. But enough about me. How was your day? :-)

Life on Life's Terms. I am powerless.  And there are still a few hours left ... I am bookending: vaccuum the LR and bdrm. Back in 20.

R 7:20 pm

Vaccuuming done. Bookending next task: make up guest bed. Back in 10.

go rita

my day was pretty good, tx for asking. Of course i didnt have 3 crises like you did. I always feel like when the crises hit, my procrastination hurts, because i'm behind on everything and now there's NO time to work on them.

You are helping your friend. That lasts. Glad you still have a good attitude. It lightens my spirit.

Take care rita.

pro's CI - 10am

I'm showered and (mostly) dressed. Just getting things together to leave for work.

Journey 9:45

I have a todo list but haven't "officially" set my MITs yet . . . got a call from today's Toastmaster asking me to do table topics so I had to come up with an idea on short notice.  Anyway, that's done!  I went to the gym this morning, first time I've worked out since last Wednesday.   When we had a houseguest last week, I got out of the habit of getting up early and heading to the gym.  Figured it was time to reconfigure the alarm clock situation again!  I've been turning off the alarm in my sleep again, so I changed the tone and moved it to a different place.

Maybe I need a clocky.

Coffee time . . .will check back at 10:30 with MITs set and email read.

Journey 2 pm

I'm feeling a bit scattered today, but I reviewed my todo list and I have actually completed my top 3 MITs.   Not too shabby.  Next I'm going to straighten my messy desk, and move on to MIT #4.  I'm planning to leave by 5 pm at  the latest today, as I'm still tired from working the weekend.

pro's CI - 9am

I got up early - not as early as planned (6am versus 5am), but pretty early. I didn't get done what I'd hoped to get done, but I'm going to keep trying. The problem was that I didn't get to bed that early last night - wasn't used to getting up this early - so I was tired. Tonight I'll go to bed earlier and tomorrow will be better.

I just came back from the gym, and now I need to quick get showered, dressed, and off to work. I often dawdle when I come back from the gym because I'm tired, and then I get to work too late.
