Convalaria at 9.30am Monday

THE BACKLOG and tax were untouched yesterday  Cry

Too much driving about and doing things for other people and other distractions
Today is a new day.   Onwards!
I want to:

  • do my morning routine
  • 15 minutes tax
  • 15 minutes sorting THE BACKLOG
  • 15 minutes wotking on THE BACKLOG
  • report back

Convalaria at 12.20pm Monday

A big morning routine and several mother related phonecals have slowed me down. I have been busy and productive but I have not tackled the 15 minutes working on the back log yet.
So now I want to:

  • do the 15 minute THE BACKLOG work
  • visit mother
  • do the chemist and other errands
  • another 15 minutes on THE BACKLOG
  • report back
  • and oh ......have lunch and a quick read here

kromer 7:20 CI

I was away Friday afternoon/Saturday (church retreat), then went to the museum of science today with a friend, then called home, and now have been goofing off for about an hour. Need to get moving, there's work to be done tonight!

I'm feeling totally scattered, so I'm going to start by getting out my work and today list. In about 10 min. I'll update with a plan for the evening.

UPDATE 7:30:

I mostly need to focus on work tasks:
*Test if number of shared connections in clusters is significant
*Write up a 1-pg report for my prof. on clustering findings
*Devise a principled clustering metric and see what I find
*Email my prof. and double check that we're meeting tomorrow
*Do 30 min background reading

I also want to get through a few non-work tasks
*Fold laundry
*Post new jobs sheet
*Check if water has leaked into kitchen

OK, I'm having a hard time focusing, but I'm going to do this! I'll start by emailing prof (a very easy task!). Then I'll do the sig. testing, which should take about 45 minutes, and update when done with a plan on how to procede.

Update 7:45--emailed prof and have a plan for sig. testing, back when that's done.

Update 8:45--have been very unfocused, but I'm getting better and am now *mostly* done with sig. testing. I'd like to control for # of connections, which should take about 15 min. Then I'll take a 5-min break and read through a few of the posts here. Then I'll spend 15 min working on my report, then do my 30 min. of background reading (since that sounds really interesting right now)

Update 9:15: Finished sig. testing, bookending my break and then I'll spend 15 *focused* min working on my report.

kromer mon checkback

Thanks for the encouragement c...but I actually fell down a bit last night, I didn't get through most of these tasks. (I did fold laundry, check water, test sig., and start report, but that's it). Oh well, today is a new day!

Well done!!

G - CI, 11.30 Mon

So tired. Urgh.

Should have slept on Sunday rather than keeping regular appointments. Reading Ask Metafilter, blogs etc.

I spent too much time in libraries as a child. My subconscious seems to think that reading about a problem will solve the problem - it especially doesn't when the problem is 'reading, when I should be working'.

Ok, preparing early lunch.

reading instead of doing....

There is a common theme among many of us: we are CURIOUS. This is not a curse, but it is a constant temptation to follow up on ideas instead of doing WORK

E, did you get to see last Thursday with surgery info?

Hi E!

Oh, I see we are on the board about the same time. Did you get to read last Thursday when I posted some surgery info? I hope everything goes well with you, and best of luck! Talk to you later! :)

Recycler

Thank you, gals & guys, for being here! :)

hi, Recycler!

whoops! double post.

hi, Recycler!

Yes, indeed! I thought I had posted a lengthy response to you: it was extremely helpful! I am currently scheduled to have the surgery on the 22nd, but am now having those second doubts. They think that I have a polyp, but the surgeon just said that it could just be a cluster of gall stones. Since I am not in much pain, I would rather try to flush any stones out instead of having surgery. When I move back home I won't have medical insurance until I have work, so it would be best to have it here, but I would rather wait for a year to see if I can treat it alternatively first. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, because if I get health insurance they may not cover the gall bladder surgery!

pro's CI - 6pm

I did laundry early this morning - good thing I did because some really intense thunderstorms moved through in the afternoon and it's been raining for hours.

After the laundry I took a nap (until a thunderclap woke me up), and since then I've been procrastinating - playing FreeCell and watching the Law & Order marathon on TV. I'm tired and not focusing too well.

pro - did a couple things...

I picked some stuff off the floor and put it away, and I admitted some new members to this site (and banned a spammer). Let's see, what next...

Recycler CI 6pm EST

Hi!

We are supposed to get a thunderstorm tonight, so I better post now before any storms start ;)

Today: helped Dad clean house, visited aunt, took items to dumpster, bought provisions, fixed and ate dinner.

Tonight: I need to use the shredder. I have kept putting that off, but today would be a great day to follow through! Brush & floss teeth, call dad, wash & moisturize face.

Have a great night, everyone! :)

Convalaria at 5.30am Monday trying to attend meeting

Chat is not cooperating and is loading v e ry , v e r y  s l o wly.

5.40am and chat has loaded. I can see movingalong and Edge as being present in Who is Chatting but I am the only one present in bot rooms. What is happening????

Convalaria - try deleting your cache

I just tried the chatbox and it's working fine, so the problem is on your end.

First - what browser are you using (program name, version)?

Second - try clearing your cache then closing and restarting your browser.

Convalaria - chatbox problem

Hi Convalaria! I'm sorry you couldn't make the meeting! I noticed you on the "Who's online" list, but your name never showed up on the chat room list.

Maybe you should try restarting your computer? Have you tried using the chat box before? If it worked for you before but didn't this time maybe there was something wrong with the connection?

I'm sure one of the more learned members can figure it out. It would be great having you join the meeting next week :-)

Hi convalaria

So sorry we missed you.  You got up so early in your time zone!

I am guessing that maybe you didn't see that there are two chatrooms?  Once the room is loaded, there are two rooms.  You go to top of chatbox and see two tabs.  Maybe you didn't realize that ... ?

The default when chat loads is the Check-In chatroom.   The check-in chatroom is for doing Mini-challenges of tasks you are working on.

The other tab you can click on (at top of chatbox) is the meetings chatbox ... thats where we were.

We have two rooms so that those who don't want to attend the meeting can continue doing mini-task-challenges in the check-ins chatbox.

Well, I know you made a valiant effort, so you were with us in person, I am sure!

Hugs,
movingalong

Convalaria and the chatbox

Hi edge and moving along and pro! Thank you for trying to help.....

moving along, I do know that there are two chatrooms. I was the only one listed in both of them. I am sorry that I missed you and send you a hug.

pro, the browser Iam usisng is internet explorer....don't know which  version. Can you please tell me what and where the cache is and how I can delete it?  :?  I do know how to restart my computer Wink

convalaria - chatbox

Sounds like you got into the chatbox fine, so you don't need to do anything. It sounded before like the chat was hanging for you.

There are two tabs. The second one is where you go when you first launch the chat - check-ins. Click the first one - meetings - to join the Sunday meeting.

The chatbox and Convalaria yet again

hi pro

chatbox was slow to load but eventually I got in. The problem was that while I could see moving along and Edge were listed as being in chat in the 'Who is chatting' box I could not see them in either chatroom. I could only see my own name in both chatrooms. I could also type in messages but since no one else was there  I recieved no responses. I hope that I have explained that clearly. I would love to participate in chat.
I have found out what the cache is and I have cleared it so perhaps that might make the difference.

Re: mysterious chatbox

Hmmm.

You were in the right place at the right time.

You knew about both the meeting chatbox and the checkin chatbox, and you tried both rooms -- but couldn't see us.

You could see us listed on the main website menu as being in the chatbox, but when you went into both chatboxes, we were not there.

We couldn't see you as logged into chat.  But we could see you as logged on to the website.

I know you were here at the right time, due to the timestamp of your post saying "It's 5:30 AM and am trying to get into chat meeting...It's 5:40 AM and chat has loaded" ... and the timestamp of my reply to you.  You really were there at the right time.

My only conclusion is that we were all in the same place, at the same time, but in a different dimension.  (cue science fiction theme music). Surprised

Hugs!

9:08 CI for Lark

Good morning folks. It looks rainy outside here, and I have grass to mow. If it rains, I won't be distraught, though. A while back I got a copy of The Procrastinators Handbook, and it's a wonderful book. Does anyone else have it? I'd be really willing to start an ongoing discussion as I go through it. I'm backlogged with work, but non-work is going to be the focus for today. Gee, I need some successes.
To do:
morning things
spiritual time
another coat on kitchen walls
wash windows in house
fill one bag with stuff to donate
fill one bag with stuff to discard
sit on porch and read one chapter of book
clean out car
try to arrange a helper for this week
hook up phone jacks in kitchen

Journey 8 am

Happy Sunday everyone!  I have already planned my day, and I'm finding that this new habit is really helping (getting started immediately and working for 20 minutes before doing anything else).

The effect wore off about 4:00 yesterday afternoon though lol!  Up til then I was pretty productive.

First thing on the agenda today is laundry.  See you guys later!

Way to Go Journey

Hi Journey!

It seems to me that if you were productive from whenever you started in the morning untill 4pm that you ought to congratulate yourself.

Consider that it is possible  effect wore off not because you were procrastinating but because you were tired from a full and productive day of work!

Thanks Convalaria!

Actually, now that you mention it, I WAS tired!  I'm not used to working hard all day long lol!

movingalong's Sunday goals

Hello all!

I haven't been here much lately, as I have been focusing on another 12-Step issue for me.

I have some projects I've been procrastinating on so ....  I need to be here, want to be here, choose to be here!

Sunday choices:

  • Wash dishes
  • Empty trash
  • Spiritual Time
  • Work on Intimidating Project X in 15-minute bursts.

GO moving along GO

Thank you movingalong for your encouragement.  BACKLOGS and intimidating projects have a way of building up and sneaking up on us .......
I begun to realise the size of the BACKLOG about 3 weeks ago and was paralysed by the thought of it......I know that there is no magic bullet or potion but I do not always believe in what I know.

In my case I think that procrastination is the root cause of everything else that is problematic for me.

Weekly 12-Step Meeting in Meeting Chatbox

Meeting is held:

  • Sunday morning in Hawaii/Alaska
  • Sunday afternoon in the Americas
  • Late Sunday evening in Europe/Africa
  • Very early Monday morning in Asia/Australia/NZ

Exact time/Timezone details here:
http://procrastinators-anonymous.org/node/1398

This is a 12-Step meeting.

NOTE:

  • No obiligation to attend!
  • No need to mention if you are coming or not!
  • Just do what is right for you !
  • (This reminder is for informational purposes only).

NOTE: The chatbox was upgraded in April 2008. It no longer keeps a log of what was said. Whatever personal thoughts you say there, will not be readable after the meeting. If there is any chat scroll remaining on the screen, we usally type in one-word lines of chat until any remaining personal words from the meeting have scrolled out of view. The only thing left visible would be generic things like the closing statement, or a list of the P.A. Tools, or the Serenity Prayer. There is no permanent record of private thoughts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't want to create a feeling of "obligation". Many of us suffer from issues with "Demand Resistance", and obligation would just make things worse.
Also, I wanted to make it clear that we don't take attendance.
Each person should come or not come according to their own inner guidance -- i.e. the Higher Power of their understanding.
