e's belated ci

There are few and far between, but occasionally I have a day when I forget I am a procrastinator. Today I think I put off one thing... the same thing... twice. Other than that, everything that I needed to do got done as it came up.

Ta Da: water, walked to work, laundry, washed, hung up, rolded, put away (or in to iron pile), meds, made bed, made breakfast, emptied dishwasher, counters clean, sorted out pics for H, went through them, prepped 308, covered ref, at lunch with C, emailed Andrew, emailed John, emailed Dan, met with H, picked up C, cleaned up dinner, talked with K, counters, laundry, got A to wash floor.

I am dealing with a very rebelious 14 year old who is a MAJOR procrastinator and I am realizing I can't do anything about it, and my controlling nature is making me insane. So, I guess I can pray about it.

For tomorrow, support C in going through summer clothes, do geneology project, follow up with A on his tasks, laundry, sort out things for H by 10, book room for MOnday and Tuesday, call pathologist, shelf read.

more, more, more, but mostly, turn it over to HP so I can get on with things....

journey 3:20 update 5:00

Back from the park. It was nice.

I still need to:

  • Make dinner
  • Clean up the kitchen
  • go through the beginnings of a pile I have going on my desk
  • prep for tomorrow
  • more laundry
  • prepare vitamins/meds to take to work
  • feed the birds

Taking a 15 minute break to goof around on the computer, then laundry for half an hour.

Update 5 pm: birds are fed, vitamins are prepped, some laundry done, and dinner started.  Still need to: do dishes, more laundry, prep for tomorrow, pile.

MIT: Finish off, or at very least get half way through writing one day over due paper. Can't let it continue to accumulate deduction points against my grade!

kpoet CO

10:30 pm - Got half the paper done.

While I did get the minimal amount of work done, I believed I could have done better.  Those 4 hours of 'work avoidance' and 'time wasting' today would surely have enabled me to complete the paper. I can only look back and mark it down as a learning experience, and hopefully keep focus better tomorrow.

In rereading posts I missed I stumbled upon yours and you reminded me of how I used to beat myself up for not doing 'good enough'. I can only speak from my experience, but one thing that I have noticed is that my codependent, perfectionistic self procrastinates because I am both codependent and a perfectionist. The beating myself up is part of that. When I pat myself on the back for getting something done, even if I am "acting as if" I really felt good about my effort, I begin to feel good about the work I do accomplish.

In other words, congratulations on pushing through all that stuff and getting some work done!

c ci,9am, 12:20pm...9:50pm

yesterday was...mixed. (a curious euphemism). But i go back to moving's post on 12 step approaches here: http://procrastinators-anonymous.org/node/1432

Both of these passages ("When evening comes" and "When we retire") talk about reviewing what you did all day and honestly acknowledging your errors -- but not beating yourself up -- or falling into worry or morbid remorse. And remembering to see what you DID accomplish

And i do that. I didnt have a great day, but i did set some MITs and do them. I have had worse days. I feel better today, but not as good as i've felt most days in the last 2 months. I got some benefit yesterday from posting, some benefit from the 12 steps. Not as much as usual.

But, today is a new day. One day at a time.

Today: quick breakfast and eat while doing my work #1 MIT.

[edit 12:20pm]: i started my MIT, then got distracted. Some to almost-MITs, but some to web surfing. Trying to get back on track now. 1 hour at a time. I'll check in in 10 min.

[edit 12:30pm]: worked on MIT for 10 min. Check in in another 10. In 1/2 hr or 1hr i'll give myself a designated break.

[edit 12:40pm]: worked for 5, got distracted for 5. Trying again for 10.

[edit 1:05pm]: been working on MIT for all that 25 min, but forgot to check in. Check in in 20 min, at 1:25.

[edit 1:25pm]: all MIT got one step completed. check in in 10 min, then break. i feel a time binge coming on.

[edit 1:40pm]: 15 min rather than 20, and SO wants to talk, so that's my break.

[edit 1:50pm]: break over, back to MIT. Check in at 2:10.

[edit 2:10pm]: did work on MIT. Now lunch is cooked, but i'm really anxious to get next step done at work. Will give it 10 more min to 2:20pm.

[edit 2:25pm]: i have a STRONG urge to do just a few more minutes. but can't i just get my lunch and continue working? yes. See you at 3pm.

[edit 2:45pm]: early check-in because i have to face the next step in my task, and i'm feeling anxious. Shrink the self. There.

[edit 9:50pm]: I did face that step. It went well. Then home stuff MITs happened. This went ok. Now set MITs for eve.

Journey 9 am

Good morning!  I have the day off work today, my reward for working the weekend.  I watched a movie with dd last night and slept in this morning.  I feel rested.  Now, let's try not to waste this beautiful day.

I have a dr. appt. at 10, should be quick.  Then I'm going to Mal-wart.  As much as I hate shopping at that place, there are a couple of things I need that can only be found there.  And stopping by the library to drop off books and pick up one I have on hold.  I'll try to resist checking out any books as I have a whole stack of books to read already.  I'm reading Water for Elephants right now.  It's great.  I resisted reading it for a while because of the circus theme, I didn't think I would enjoy that.  I was wrong.  :)

So, I have 1/2 hour before I leave for the doc.  In that half hour I need to: get dressed, medicate the itchy dog, and put a load of clothes in.  Here we go!

Journey 1:15

My errands are done.  Now I need to get some junk out of the car, fold one load of laundry, make the bed, and see if I can get dd and the doggies to go to the park with me for an hour.

kromer 7:10 CI

I have an econ exam at 9, so I'm going to do some more studying until 8:30, then leave for the exam.

Specific next tasks:
*Send email about rush muffins
*Study chpt. 15
*Study chpt 16
*Study chpt 17
*Check back by 8:30

kromer 8:05 CI

OK, did all the above, now I need to quickly look over chpt. 21 and practice exam, then leave for the exam by 8:35

kromer 10:55 CI

OK, finished my last final! Just hope I did all right...And I made flyers for my house

I'd like to focus on my work this afternoon, so I can take this evening off.

MIT for research project:
Compute mapping from coregulators to categories and from connected genes to categories

Other tasks for research project:(research project should be my focus for the rest of the day, since I have a bigg-ish presentation of Friday)
*Look at categories in detail
*Get list of coregulators without annotated enzymatic function
*Find out how many citations there are for each of these coregulators
*Finish reading about biochemistry of regulation
*Email PF
*Very rough outline for lab meeting

Other tasks:
*Deal with receipts
*Deal with cooking hours
*Grocery shopping
*Check on, feed, freeze cells
*Prep for, figure out schedule for tomorrow's experiment
*Clean up my stuff in house library
*Email SS about rooming MIT MIT
*Email LR
*Take notes from lab meeting
*Spend 15 min tidying room
*Go over flashcards

I'm stuck here waiting for someone for the next hour. To use that time efficiently, I will:
1)Email SS and LR
2)Figure out how to get GO categories

kromer 3:05 CI totally fried

I have a whole bunch of work with deadlines (mostly lab stuff), and I just can't concentrate...lab is driving me nuts! I'm going to accomplish a small task (donwloading GO data file), then quickly go to the grocery store to clear my head, then come back and get mapping to categories, then finish up the lab stuff.

For after finishing finals,

For after finishing finals, I think I've done pretty well today :)

Done:
*MIT for research project
*Grocery shopping
*Check on, feed, freeze cells
*Prep for, figure out schedule for tomorrow's experiment
*Email SS about rooming MIT MIT
*Email LR
*Rush for living group
*Progress on other research project tasks

Tasks for the rest of the evening:
*Look at categories in detail
*Get list of coregulators without annotated enzymatic function
*Get list of steroid-associated coregulators
*Sign receipts that are in my mailbox
*Move mess from library up to my room (that way at least it only bothers me and my roommate)
*Spend 15 min tidying room
*Cut up oranges, start making banana bread
*Take a break, call my friend

This will be hard since I'm tired, but I think it's doable. I'm going to put on some peppy music and look over the first 70 coregulators.

for Kromer, Edge, and all you folks in finals!
