I've hit a "mushy" area this afternoon. So far things have been going okay, but I feel like taking a short nap, and fear it'll be a long one. Perhaps if I sit in a chair and doze for a while? Mostly, though, I just don't feel ike doing anything. How do you folks deal with that feeling?
Strong coffee :-) But usually I give in to it, lol. I think a 40min nap is best, because it leaves you feeling rested without making you groggy once you're up again. Set the alarm and place it far away from you so you're forced to get up to turn it off, and once up resist the urge to head back to any comfortable surface where you may doze off again. Also, once you're up it might help to put on some "active" music to get you awake. Good luck!

I can definitely relate to the mid-afternoon mushies, and to the danger of the expanding nap!
I don't have any magic answers (dang!) but sometimes I find it helpful to use that time to do low-energy stuff, like any online research/shopping/etc. that I need to do -- things that engage my mind a little while allowing me to sit still.
Sunday afternoon can be a good time to chat with friends on the phone while tidying the kitchen. And sometimes it helps to think about the week ahead and what I will need to function well (which leads me to the undone laundry, empty fridge, etc., and sometimes induces enough mild panic to get me moving.)
Of course, if there's nothing pressing that needs doing, sometimes a nice long nap can be an excellent use of time! Especially if you have a cat, who will probably be happy to aid & abet.
It's a dreary day here; I slept late. Although I needed the sleep, I feel like I've wasted half the morning already and I haven't even started. OK, I'm going to change that attitude. I feel refreshed from a good long sleep and I'll have a great day! There, that's better.
The kids are coming over for dinner at 6. Before that, I'll
- bathe the dogs
- clean up the bathroom after dog bath
- take a bath myself
- straighten, dust, vacuum living room
- same for bedroom if time; if not, shut the door
- sort laundry; wash, dry and fold one or two loads
- marinate chicken and ribs (hopefully dh will grill)
- make salad and baked potatoes
- clean up the kitchen
- sweep the dining room and wipe down the table
- straighten and wipe down guest bathroom
- make rolls
what I would like to do:
sleep
play computer games
read books
oh, well, if I'm productive and use the timer hack I will have break time for games and I can read after the kids go home tonight. I'm really looking forward to playing with my grandson. He's beginning to communicate. Babies are cute and all, but I really enjoy hanging out with 2 and 3 year olds, when they are constanting learning new and exciting stuff.
First item on the agenda:
straighten living room, dining room, bedroom.
Once the clutter is cleared away, the house will look better and my attitude will improve. Back 11:30-ish for a checkin and a break

As soon as all my children and then my grandchildren (4) got old enough to smile, I wore them out tickling! Then when they got old enough to talk, I made them all chatterboxes (according to their parents). They're a lot of fun, seeing the world through their eyes, it looks brand new and all good!
Sometimes my list goes out the window while I play with my grandchildren. Wish I'd had a granny like me!!
The living room, dining room, and guest bathroom are straightened and dusted. I've had a cup of coffee and a bagel, done a tutorial on the GIMP (learning how to make clothes in Second LIfe), and I'm in a much better mood. I'm taking a 15 min WoW break, then straighten/dust my bedroom and sort the laundry.

I did make progress on both these tasks, but didn't finish either.
Then I went to church+potluck, which was good, and now I'm back to do some focused work until 5, then do other stuff until 10:30, then another hour or so of work before bed

*Make error bars for graphs, post graphs
*Revise bio results section
*Look at results from MoD on new dataset
*Run flow program on new dataset
*Try flow program on transcription factors
*Finish reading paper
*Make slides for bio discussion
*Call C
Long list, but I know I can make a lot of progress if I focus.
Step by step:
1)Check the ID mapping
2)Look at MoD results
3)Finish reading paper
4)Outline slides for bio discussion/decide which figure I need to make for them
5)Check in again
So far this morning, with my PA list, I: went on a bike ride, started a load of clothes in the washer, straightened the lower level, had breakfast, taken high blood pressure meds, run the dishwasher, straightened the bathroom, had a spiritual moment, decided which method of payment for store, and put the reuseable Cloth Shopping bags by the door.
I'll see what else I can get done, and maybe have another 1 or 2 CI today :)
Continued CI: put clothes in dryer, took out trash, bought weekly provisions, put gas in car, put away groceries, got out summer shorts & tops.
Trying to work up nerve to prep 3 canvases for painting. I have put painting tarp on floor, unwrapped the canvases and lined them up. (Holographic images of my mom & Aunt Thelma appear, saying "you can't do it, it won't be perfect, you can't do it!" Recycler has to lay on bed to regather strength to overcome fears).
Will I be able to jesso them today? Only a later CI will tell for sure! ;)
How are the canvases coming? I'm sure your mom and Aunt Thelma have the best intentions, but if you want to you can tell their images that you get to decide what your priorities are, not them, and your priority is to get the canvases DONE, not to do them perfectly. And if there's a flaw or two, so what? The canvas will either still be usable, or it will be replacable, and either way the world won't come to an end. (And even if you end up with no usable canvasses, so what? The unprepped canvases weren't usable either, so it's still no loss!)
Thanks for your note :) Somehow I was able to "just do it" and jesso the canvases and clean the roller & tray. The canvases will probably be dry by tomorrow. Next weekend is probably when I'll be ready to try to paint them :)
Thanks for your encouragement! Procrastination can occur from a variety of thoughts/situations, and some of them can be tricky mental blocks lol! Anyway, I have been try to "get around to" these canvases since last fall, so I'm glad I was able to do it today :)
This afternoon I need to fold and put away some clothes. I have my work clothes in the gym back for tomorrow, and need to see if there is anything else I need to lay out for Monday/Tuesday. Also, I like to trade out purses every few weeks, so it is time for that.
If I don't remember to check back in later, have a great night, everyone! :)
One more check-in lol. We keep having thunderstorms here, so I keep having to shut off the computer. Then, after each storm goes by, I want to get back on the computer lolol
I fixed dinner, ran the dishwasher, straigthened the lower level. I also de-packaged new socks that I had bought last October and had procrastinated about opening lol. During the storms, I read my recovery literature chapters for the day.
Next, talk to my dad on the telephone, then that's it for me today!

on my way out after an extended sleep. I did some eft this morning and feel much better. My son broke his toe last night and is delighted to avoid going to a family friend's place for luncheon. (what he will do to get out of family obligations!) Happy Easter to Orthodox Christians!
Hope he gets well soon :D (Might as well make a list of all the stuff he'll be doing to make up for missed chores and social obligations after his toe is somewhat healed *evil cackle*)
Have a great Easter, E!

hmmmm, i like the way you think, Edge! He seems much better for having missed the social obligation and seeing as though my other son informed us on our way back home that he felt as if he had done so much penanc at that one dinner he feels no obligation to attend any work-related function with us for the next ten years - including our funerals - it is just as well broken-toe missed it.
The food was glorious, though, and now I am contemplating a nap. I understand that studies say that people who sleep on average 7 hours a day live longer than those who sleep longer, but I am going to quality, not quantity!
There is more paperowk to do before I leave tomorrow, and some cooking must also be done, but otherwise things are fairly in order. The mending pile is outgrowing its bag, but I don't feel much obligation to it other than to hide it instead of displaying it in my room.

. . . or maybe that critter on the bike is a hamster. Anyway, what better way to start the day than with a cycling rodent?
I haven't checked in for a while -- been too busy to procrastinate! -- thought I've been skimming everyone's CIs. I'm impressed, as always, you productive people, you!
I have a truckload of stuff to do tomorrow, and not a lot of time to do it in, so I'm thinking ahead:
CALL J.! Remember to do this!
Decide which stuff to take back to store Mon., and put in car
Do laundry for the week
Call bookstore
Review paperwork & pay anything that needs paying
Send the &^$#( insurance form in!
Figure out what I need to take on trip
Vacuum the grody living room rug
Get groceries
Make lunch for Mon.
Run through music
Not sure how I'm going to get all that done between class and going out in the evening! But somehow I will. See you in the morning. . .
I called J. and reached her, so that's good. And I tried on & sorted the clothes. Next: Put a load of laundry in, then take trash out and take it to the curb. Check back in here in 20 minutes or so.
I'm moving at the speed of molasses today. And I wasted a little time fooling around on the internet, but then got myself going again.
Next up: Make lunch for tomorrow, review paperwork & put in bag to take with me, put clothes in car, pack up containers, get dressed to go out. Oh -- and somewhere in there put laundry in dryer, maybe.
i can so relate to that. i have done... one thing today that was productive. no, better than that, two things. I went to the 12 step meeting here and also loaded the dishwasher. I did not cook. I did not clean. I did not do paperwork. I don't remember taking medication. I did... speak to a friend on the phone at length. Do some eft work, which made me feel well. I drank belated water. For today, I am thankful for this forum, because I both need it and want it. Good luck with the grody rug, falcon!
Jeez, I'm a slowpoke. But I'm finally up and have done my exercises, and have an hour before class. I'm ravenous, so I need to eat breakfast first. I can start writing a packing list for my trip while I eat.
Going to have to do some triage today! I think I can get through the rest of the week without grocery shopping if I have to. I may have to email J. because I think I have her old number & address. It would be good to call L & A, but that may have to be an email, too, in the interests of time.
O.k., next up: Eat breakfast, check the weather for this week, sort laundry (but don't put it in yet) try on those clothes, go to class
O.k., rule for the rest of the day. . . no reading! I just spent 30 minutes reading, which would be fine if I had the time, but today I need to give priority to other things. I'm taking a plane trip soon, and can read to my heart's content, but today I need to focus on DOING things.
So. . . no reading today! Unless I want to reward myself for getting things DONE with a little (brief! timed!) reading time.
pro's last check-in - 11pm
I'm ready for bed now (dishes washed, teeth brushed, jammies on). I'm still sitting at the computer, however. Standing up now...

Next up: Make lunch for tomorrow, review paperwork & put in bag to take with me, put clothes in car, pack up containers, get dressed to go out. Oh -- and somewhere in there put laundry in dryer, maybe.

e at the speed of tar
i can so relate to that. i have done... one thing today that was productive. no, better than that, two things.
Falcon slowpoke CI

Falcon CI No more reading!
Off to class, will check in later.
