Procrastination Books

TV show: _Intervention_ on A&E

Intervention is not a book, but a TV show on A&E, but this is a review, and so "Procrastination Books" seemed the closest forum fit.

I've seen two episodes of this show. They are about serious drug addicts. The family hires the show to guide the intervention, ending in the person choosing or not to go to a detox facility.

It's an interesting show, but i mention it because i see myself, and in some sense, us, in these addicts.

Managing Thought: How Do Your Thoughts Rule Your World? by Mary J. Lore

I read about this book on a blog and based on that one entry I went on and ordered it:

http://www.amazon.com/Managing-Thought-Your-Thoughts-World/dp/1933916265...

Monkey mind has been SERIOUSLY messing with me lately...and since the IRS was bery bery good to me this year I thought I'd spring for a copy. Has anyone read this book? If so, what are your thoughts? (pun unintended)

Procrastination: Ten Things To Know

I couldn't figure out how to post this to the "Articles" section - I hope it's OK to include here.  I thought the article had some interesting and insightful information, especially about health effects. It is from Psychology Today, 23 August 2003.

There are many ways to avoid success in life, but the most
sure-fire just might be procrastination. Procrastinators sabotage
themselves. They put obstacles in their own path. They actually choose
paths that hurt their performance.

Put off Procrastination

Found this PDF article- 7 "modules" acutally to "put off procrastination" and thought I would share since I didn't notice it when I was looking through the book forum before. It references as sources many of the authors reviewed here.

Cute little web app.:

www.nowdothis.com

It's a web-based to-do list that you edit to show your own list.  It shows you one task at a time, and when you complete it it moves on to the next task.  At the end is a reassuring "all done".  Really simple and deceptively effective.  I'm going to try it at work next.

Best wishes,

A good write-up on the "One Day at a Time" task list

This guy doesn't use the term MITs but it's the same concept.

"Do It Tomorrow - and other secrets of time management" by Mark Forster

This book was discussed in another thread (I'm move it over here). I ordered the book from amazon in the UK, and it just arrived today. Will report back after I've had a chance to read it!

Cute new productivity tool

OK, you guys know that I'm a sucker for time-wasting new productivity tools (is that an oxymoron?), but check this out - from Leo at Zen Habits.  On a designated break of course, not NOW lol.

Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life: Henry Cloud, John Townsend

This book was highly recommended to me and I'm finding it very enlightening.  It's not specifically about procrastination, but it addresses a lot of resistance issues that many of us struggle with.   It is written from a Christian standpoint with lots of Bible quotes and whatnot, so if you're not into that, this book might not be for you.  But if you're ok with the religion part, it's an excellent book.
