"I want to believe that life isn't full of darkness,
n
o matter how painful and hard the rain may beat down on me.
Even if storms come to pass, the sun will shine again."

-- Paraphrasing a quote from the character "Yuki Sohma"
(the original wording was written by author Natsuki Takaya)

  • "When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark.
  • At the end of a storm, there's a golden sky, and the sweet silver song of a lark.
  • Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown.
  • Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart, and you'll never walk alone."

-- Originally from the 1945 Broadway musical "Carousel", written by Rodgers and Hammerstein

I have been having a hard time getting to the starting line lately. I want to believe that today can be different. I will stay away (abstain) from the things that I use for compulsive avoidance, namely IGC. I will take the time to plan the next action. I will try to observe myself when I feel like escaping the task at hand.

I feel like I've been having trouble making progress. Today is mostly a computer/bioinformatics day, which will be fun work I hope:
*Go to church service
*Mail taxes
*Go through Cell looking at section titles and supplementary info options, share with Mu (MIT)
*Email Helen about UROP
*Email GBS (MIT)
*Come up with list of 30 biotechs
*Ask Mu for blocks
*Finish processing microarray data
*Reminder email about MU public safety
*Send out intro to 2 people
For CLIP data:
->Eliminate SNPs (MIT) (actually, I talked to some people and they agree that this step is unnecessary)
->Graph mutations by position (made really good progress on this)
->Count mutation pileups in each position (have started this)
->Make permutation files (have started this)

Thanks movinagalong for the starter, I have to say starters are getting to be a real creative/expressive opportunity here and I appreciate the effort people like you are making!!!

Once more, have an assignment to get done, it's already nearly 2pm and I've only got as far as opening a document... And this is when I already KNOW that my time is limited by a commitment I have this evening, which is going to swallow everything up between 4pm and 8pm. What's wrong with me??!!???!!!??!!

one: assignment, get something written, and fast!!!

two: walk dogs, again...

three: get to my job on time

four: get back to work on my assignment, but I can predict that I'll be tired and grumpy and 'won't feel like doing it'. I also know that the fact that the deadline is tomorrow won't really have much effect on me, because I know I'm generally well-thought of (lucky me!) and they'll cut me some slack...

five: decide what I'm doing this weekend!!!! The weather here in the UK is really wintry still, and much as I'd like to get out of London I do still need to make sure where I'm going to (planning to go to) is accessible to a 3 ton van...

and this long check-in is yet more procrastinating..

clement ci - day 137 attempting abstinence, 57 from self

Abstinence from unplanned time.

  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do impulsively is write something on my todo list.
  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do off plan is recovery, something to maintain my sobriety, when tempted. I have come to believe that it is more important to maintain sobriety than to get things done.

Abstinence from relying on self.

We reviewed our fears thoroughly. We put them on paper, even though we had no resentment in connection with them. We asked ourselves why we had them. Wasn't it because self-reliance failed us? Self-reliance was good as far as it went, but it didn't go far enough. Some of us once had great self-confidence, but it didn't fully solve the fear problem, or any other. When it made us cocky, it was worse.

Perhaps there is a better way - we think so. For we are now on a different basis; the basis of trusting and relying upon God. We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves. We are in the world to play the role He assigns. Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity.

We never apologize to anyone for depending upon our Creator. We can laugh at those who think spirituality the way of weakness. Paradoxically, it is the way of strength. The verdict of the ages is that faith means courage. All men of faith have courage. They trust their God. We never apologize for God. Instead we let Him demonstrate, through us, what He can do. We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear. p68 AA Big Book.

These may not be the right durations. i'll think about them again on a designated break.
