iwant2workharder - For the check-ins, it's best to make the first post a generic welcome message, then all the check-ins are comments added to this message. Whoever gets here first creates the day thread. I created a thread for October 14th, and moved your message over.

When you check in, please put your username and the time in the subject.

So I have worked 30 minutes to do step10.
What for sure is it is going ahead  .
Very slowly though. I wish I was quicker without mistakes.
But may be what I am doing is just what is humanly possible.

Too slowly ? .
May be I really didn't realise how long this work
would be.

The most important is to be making progress and getting there.
A real shame I didn't discover this site earlier, otherwise
I could have divided the work over many days instead of having
to apologize this week to the customer.

The most important : going ahead. So here I go

This should be my last check-in, except that I've been surfing the Web instead of doing my bedtime routine. Starting bedtime routine now...

slider's last CI--8:45 pm

Home again, home again, jigetty-jig! :) Stayed 45 minutes late and still didn't get to hear much of the band. :( I was curious about them because I've been talking with several of them a great deal lately (they've played two weddings, and the lead singer sang at a funeral). Had to stay till the Grand March and the Bride-Daddy dance were over so I could say a proper goodbye to the bride and groom. 8) All done with that now. Decided to get ready for bed, get settled down, and go over tomorrow's stuff tomorrow morning. Good night! (Dang! I can't get "Fraulein" out of my head. Guess I'll be humming it all night!) :P (There! that has to be the most emoticons I've ever used.)

Still to do:
--use rinse and floss before bed
--rest of bedtime routine
--dh take allergy pill at 9 pm
--dh go to bed by 10 pm
--me in bed by 10:30
--set alarm for 6:30

I'm done "doing" for today. I'm tired and my chest feels congested. I'm going to go to bed early tonight. Maybe I should make the futon back into a bed now before I get even more tired.

slider's 5:30 pm CI

Wedding done, photos done, DH in shower to go to reception. DD doesn't want to come--that's ok. And DS is at band event till midnight. It will be nice to have company and be just the grownups. Only a few things left for today! I didn't get to write, though. I started getting phone calls for people and nobody else would answer the phone, so I'd answer here in the parsonage and then have to go over and tell somebody they had a call. So I gave up and stayed over there. Right now I have some time, but I'm going to put my feet up for awhile--they hurt! :(

Ta Da:
--Got up at 6:30 (target 8:45, but DS woke me up and said I need to take him to band at 7:30).
--got decent for taking DS to school
--looked up school band website for info on trip, printed trip sheet for DS while he was in shower
--loo
--drove DS to band
--checked oil, added a quart of oil additive
--threw away trash from adding additive, cleaned gunk off my hands
--made coffee
--scolded DH when he came in to kitchen (Hmm--I guess it shouldn't be a Ta Da, but it felt pretty righteous at the time! )
--skimmed book DD left in kitchen & found great quote on procrastination
--posted quotation
--small amount of cuop
--check in
--eat breakfast/lunch (brunch!)
--feed cats and chickens (took extra time to clean up pen)
--feed and play with kitten
--select clothes for wedding
--iron if needed (it was)
--unlock church by 10:00, check on how A/C is doing (wasn't doing too well last night)
--shower, dress, makeup
--fielded phone call from dmil and walked her through how to use her vcr (dh is at Scout event w/DD)
--remind dh of wedding time
--put license remnder in Outlook and cell phone and planner
--copy or type scripture passages for wedding
--outline sermon
--brush teeth
--check on bridal party (arriving 1:30 pm)
--double check church and turn on sound system
--answer tons of phone calls
--wedding (4:00 pm)
--put up extra chairs with ushers
--figured out solutions from things available at church for broken corsage of best man and broken bow on flower girl's dress
--turned A/C temp higher
--turned off lights and locked doors

I want to get done:
--rest achin' dogs for a little while
--have a cool drink
--leave house by 6:10 (may require strong measures with dh)
--take certificate to reception
--come home by 8 pm
--review lessons for tomorrow, review SS lesson
--use rinse and floss before bed
--rest of bedtime routine
--dh take allergy pill at 9 pm
--dh go to bed by 10 pm
--me in bed by 10:30
--set alarm for 6:30

you married a couple today?

You married a couple today? That must be so much fun! I'd think marrying people would be the most fun part of being a minister. Do you like doing it?

Eh, not really

I enjoy the couple's enjoyment. But I'm pretty jaded about weddings. They're all about getting to be celebrities for a day, dressing like a princess, romantic lunacy, pagan fertility rituals (only most people don't even recognize them)...and spending lots and lots of money. Here in this German part of Texas, it means a big BBQ afterwards with too much beer, country-western music mixed with polkas, and lots of redneck humor (crude and raunchy--and dumb). Parts I like--it's kinda fun seeing the whole crowd do a Grand March, for instance. But, seriously, I much prefer doing funerals.

LOL - slider, you crack me up!

You know, when you put it that way, I can understand why you like funerals more than weddings. Too funny. :D

On second thought

They are a lot more fun than the stuffy, snotty, stilted kind of society weddings I see on TV!

pro's CI - 6:10pm

I'm too tired to go out again, so I'm rolling over the rest of my to-do list (except for the laundry, which I have to finish since I started it).

My energy is pretty low now. My "doing" is about done for today.

A restaurant across the street from me is having an anniversary party with a live band and free hotdogs and beer. The band is good when you are standing there in front of it, but annoying when heard from my apartment with the windows closed when I don't want to be hearing it.

tired

I'm feeling more and more tired - a nap seems very appealing. Oh well - first day fever-free, I can expect to still be mending. I'm not sure I'll get through all my errands today, but I've already done the important stuff. What I don't do today I can do tomorrow.

I am feeling tired as well.
I am going to sleep.
:smile:I am happy as I have advanced at least the 4st steps the website1.
I could have finished the day without doing anything!

I just regret I didn't start earlier as it means I could have divided all the stuff to do... may be next time.

you seem to be doing well

You seem to be doing well.
It is really nice to see that you are getting there.
Just one question : why did you put laundry at the end
rather than finishing by the nice note: pick flowers?

priorities

I don't always take the trouble to put my to-do list in order - I just write down the stuff as I think of it, and put it in order as I do it. Not sure that's the best way - it's just what I do.

thinking about it some more...

Now that I think of it... The reason I don't take the time to put the list in priority order is the extra time it would take. I don't want my list-making to take up so much time that it cuts into what I can accomplish.

Going for a well deserved break now.

Still 119 steps + 30 left but that's life. Now it seems more about how much efforts I am going to put rather than how hard it's going to be.

Subject changed by pro to indicate it's a check-in.

that's good - here's another suggestion

I suggest you post the first 5-10 items on your to-do list (first 5-10 steps) and move them from your "to do" list to a "ta da" list as they are completed. It feels good to be able to look back at the end of the day and see all the things that you've done.

iwant2workharder's check-in - 19:44 (baby steps)

19:44

Instead of getting off the computer, I have broken down website1 and website2. website1 involves 120 steps to get all done and website2 30 steps :O :-O . May be some steps will be quicker than 15 minutes. I guess that may be I knew it would be hard work and was avoiding starting as I had no idea when I would finish. 120 steps that's 30 hours in total! and 7.5 hours. funny that intuitively I was more keen on starting website2.
So it is 19:50 and I am starting step1! :) :-)

----------------------------
Subject changed by pro to indicate it's a check-in.

dear iwant2workharder,

Please, please, pretty please put your username and the check-in time in the subject of your message so people know it's a check-in. You can add other stuff if you want - for example:

iw2wh's CI - 19:44 (baby steps)

I fixed the subject of this one.

>I have broken down website1 and website2. website1 involves 120 steps to get all done and website2 30 steps.

Wow - that's a lot of steps! Now don't start using anticrastination tools as a way to procrastinate! (We know all the tricks here, since we've all done them. ;) ) If you're pricing a job, you need to break down the whole job in this much detail. But for getting started, you just need the next 5 steps or so.

>I guess that may be I knew it would be hard work and was avoiding starting as I had no idea when I would finish.

It's likely that you were having trouble starting because you hadn't thought out what your first action step should be. In one of the articles I posted on the site, I talk about visualization as a very effective anticrastination technique. At some point (and not in the midst of your work day!), you might want to take a look at that.

Have you decided at what time you will end for today? Don't work straight until bedtime - or worse, stay up half the night. Try to develop morning and bedtime routines to get some structure into your day. Do you have a regular job, or do you work at home?

iwant2workharder-CI 20:45

I am going for step1, 2,3 and 4 with 5 minutes break after each step.

I work in my own business: this work should have been done by the employee who has left  but work still need to be done so I am doing it.

let us know how it goes, and...

thanks for putting your username and the time in your subject!

One last thing... It's best to post your check-ins by clicking "Add new comment" to the thread starter, versus replying to a post. That way the check-ins are in chronological order, and people will see your most recent check-in because it's right on top. You're more likely to get responses that way.

I'm going out for a while now. Good luck with your work.

pro's CI - 1:40pm

My impatience to go out is turning into a desire for a nap. :( I really do want to do my laundry today, go to the store, etc. Since I live on the 5th floor of a walk-up, the hardest part about doing my laundry is going up and down the stairs. Maybe I'll just stay downstairs while it's in progress.

slider's 12:30 CI

Some good, some sidetracking. When I went to feed cats (chore DD usually does), the kennel was a DISASTER! The cats had been pooping in the corner istead of in the box, there was trash all around, all kinds of problems. So I cleaned it all up and laid down fresh cedar shavings everywhere. I also got a phone call, but I managed to keep it fairly short. Now I need to mark those bible passages and make the outline! (It's already in my head, I just don't want to ramble).

I want to get done:
--copy or type scripture passages for wedding
--outline sermon
--brush teeth, use rinse and floss (after I finish drinking Dr. Pepper)
--check on bridal party (arriving 1:30 pm)
--double check church and turn on sound system
--wedding (4:00 pm)
--take certificate to reception
--come home by 8 pm
--review lessons for tomorrow, review SS lesson

Woo-hoo!

No time to revise list, but I am finished with the lessons and sermon prep--good to go! Now I'll go check on the bride.

Gosh, I'm all done--now what?

And therein is a whole other procrastination factor for me. I don't like being all caught up and prepared to go--and not be able to go yet. This is a dumb problem, but it does factor in. It contributes to my being late and always trying to fit in one more thing before I leave the house, because I hate to leave early enough to arrive early. I dunno why that bugs me so, it just does. (A few things just popped into mind: sometimes being somewhere erly is boring, and oftentimes--this is the real bugaboo--it means i have to stand around feeling socially awkward. Despite the skills I've developed in being outgoing as a pastor, I still don't LIKE it--I'm a real introvert. I hate not knowing what to do with myself in social situations.)

Well, I can certainly find things that need doing, or things that I'd like to do for the next 2 hours or so. The real question is, will I do something useful or meaningful, or just time-binge on something useless? ;)

introverted pastor

An introverted pastor - that's a new one. I'm introverted, too, and I could never be a pastor. If you're half as introverted as I am, I can't imagine how you do it.

You have two whole hours before you have to leave? What are some of the big items on your list that you've been putting off? Is your tax thing all set? Is your house all decluttered and shining? Dishes all washed? Toilet gleaming? Just some ideas. }:)

Boo!

So mean! This is another reason why I hate getting finished with things! ;)

of course...

You also could do some reward activities...

How about two hours of WRITING?? You always talk about how much you want to write. Or work in your garden - you've said you like that, too.

Ah!

Gardening is out, I'm already dressed and it's too hot out. But writing--you're a genius!

glad I could help!

I'm heading out now. I hope no one is using the washing machine downstairs.

yay, slider!!

pro's CI - 1pm

I'm impatient to go outside, but have to admit that preparing to go outside is tiring me. I was pretty sick this week. I need to take it easy.

That said, it's delightful to see the futon back in couch form. This is only the second time it's been folded back into a couch since I bought the new mattress (because I got sick the day the mattress was delivered). I have to say... while this mattress is an infinite improvement, comfort-wise, the higher loft makes for some awkwardness when folded. I put my pillows, covered, by the arm rests, and now there isn't enough depth for them. But this is a small price to pay!

pro's CI - 12:40pm

I feel impatient to get outside after being cooped up in this one-room apartment for a week (sick). But before I go downstairs, I want to finish straightening up in here so I can bring the laundry down with me. I want to wash my jammies before I put them on again.
