1am Eastern, and this is as good a time as any to try to return to practicing mindfulness around what I'm doing. (It's been a bad stretch, last couple of days.)

Full to-do list in the morning. For now, I just want to state my intention to work in the chatbox and keep coming back to reality.

I always appreciate the effort others put into finding a good quote to start a check-in thread, so I'll try to reciprocate. Here's a sampling of the "Practice Everywhere" tidbits that Zen teacher Cheri Huber sends out each day — via twitter, Facebook, SMS. One just pops up every  few hours or so; I love getting 'em.

"Important notice: Any voice speaking to you unkindly is not worth listening to."

....

"Stop. Look up. What do you see?"

....

"Nothing to be, nothing to know, nothing to have, nothing to get. Just being here right now, breathing, accepting."

....

"Stop. Look down. What do you see?"

....

"Ever notice how your tongue just wants to keep rubbing over a sore tooth? What’s the equivalent in your mind?"

....

"You are the best friend you could ever have. Practice being that friend."

....

"Are you in your body, your senses, or in a story that is not here?"

....

"Breathe in YES. Breathe out THANK YOU. Repeat."

....

"Rub your tummy and pat your head. Does that make you smile?"

Have a great day!

Finding a way check in

1.10 pm Thursday

Thank you Ian for the thread and the great Zen quotes.

Was up very late last night and slept in this morning. While I know this is usually not good for me, and was not on paid work either, for once I think that there was a higher purpose. I found and was reading information that finally helped me start to make some sense of problems in my marriage and to understand my husband. Very hard emotionally, but gaining some understanding is a relief, and I am grateful.

But I am behind on paid work and still not started this morning. No urgent deadlines, but there will be if I get complacent and let things slide. Will make lunch, back at desk by 2 pm at latest, then work in chat box - must get back onto E report. Only other tasks before 5/5.30 pm are sending invoice/timesheet and doing exercises.

Thanks Ian for starting the thread today.
Really liked the one about not listening to someone who was speaking unkindly, {was just exactly what I needed to hear} and I really like the breathe in yes and out thank you!!

So, no way will we be ready to have guests this weekend, but just because it's not happening this weekend, doesn't mean I should abandon starting the clean-up and prep for next weekend. That, believe it of not, is a new thought for me, that I'm very thankful for.

Journey 11:30

a bit late checking in!   I'm working from home today and as usual for a work-from-homd day, getting a slow start.   I've been to the gym, had a shower, done email/calendar, then fell off the edge of the world for about an hour.   Back on track now, starting Instant Boss and working on Project V for the next hour.

Good day everyone,

Basics. Checking in. Will check in later.

Have a great day everyone

Reading for the day:

Instead of concentrating on why we can't
do a thing, we would be wise to change our "Yes, but . . ." attitude to a
more positive one. Saying "yes" means I really do want to change my
life for the better.

   —Liane Cordes

We
truly can do these things that are our "hearts' pure desires." However,
most of us look at the whole task and feel overwhelmed. We need,
instead, to look at the task's many parts. One part at a time, one day
at a time, we can accomplish any goal we set for ourselves. I know a
recovering woman who wrote a 300-page dissertation, the final
achievement to obtain her PhD. When asked at a meeting how she ever did
it, her reply was, "One word at a time." That's wonderful advice. No
matter how many goals were missed or plans dashed when we were still
using, now that we are recovering, each of us can do whatever is in our
hearts - if we do it little by little, not all at once, today.

Today, I will do one small task that will contribute toward the achievement of a life goal.

Feeling very anxious as this week I start working full time for the first time in years. Kiddo is going to an afterschool program and he's pretty anxious too.The additional money and chance for advancement is positive, but also leads to apprehension....which leads to avoidance...

I need to develop some self talk for getting through the next few weeks as I adjust my work mentality.  Feeling thankful for the 'virtual' support of this community.

Tasks to get started with:

-figure out and enter PR

-calculate L and distribute

-brainstorm q's for this afternoon's meeting

Show up (done). I "thought" I showed up at pa yesterday, and even though I forgot, I still had the reward of "showing up".

Thanks Ian for the starter, the one I am going to write down and use today is

"Breathe in YES. Breathe out THANK YOU. Repeat."  They are all good, I want to remember all of them, but for me it is more reliable  to keep it simple and just do one. Did so much home school work with my son, but was well worth it. Today looks like another one so I really need to keep positive because the other son, the teen, is so negative and keeps calling the younger one "mama's" boy because he is cooperating with me.oh well.

Thanks for being here.

Dreamweaver Check-in....1/5/2011

Thank you ian_wnc for starting today's thread.  I too needed -- yearned for -- a mindful state of mind.  I did not realize how much I was yearning for it, until I checked in yesterday morning.  Thank you for the wonderful quotes. I am sure I will turn to them throughout the day.

I am grateful for another day of being willing
to clear away the things that I do not need, to see and accept who I am, and to see and accept who others are.
