Making good on the snack

Making good on the snack promise.

For the next 3 hours, I'm gonna read the Big Book.

Ciao.

Made good on both

Made good on both promises.

My mom took the computer so I couldn't read for a while, but I'm back on track and that's all that matters. :3

So here are my next promises:

(1) Don't snack until I wake up tomorrow.

 (2) Finish reading The Big Book.

Ciao.

For the next three hours,

For the next three hours, I'm not going to snack. XD I'm kinda abusing this board, but this'll still help.

delighted i got so many things done
sad i procrastinated but think I know why (fear of criticism of my work). will work on that tomorrow. i procrastinated by goofing off. made excuse to go to bank, instead went to local book store and browsed for two hours, bought book on leadership (ironic) then went to coffee shop and wrote my journal while looking out to sea.

my procrastinating is due to fear of failure or criticism - has cost me my job, my financiial security and my fulfillment as a human.

thank you all for this site

respect
paul

welcome Zytex!

You'll find this a friendly place of healing for such fears. Most of us had them, many still do, and admitting so is key to pushing through in spite of them.  One microburst at a time!

Hang in there, prosick

Prosick -- Really relating to what you said about feeling bad when you can't finish the long list.  I'm trying really hard to create a shorter list so I can feel good about completing something, and letting that feeling carry me into the next thing.  (And having the "next thing" planned so the transition doesn't get me totally off track!)  Hang in there :)

Re: Hang in there, prosick

Kitty -- Thanks for relating! I've attempted to make short lists. They are nice to feel done but I get myself into trouble cuz I forget other important things that need to be done. I need like a big long list, but lately I've been trying to split it up according to days and what I think I can accomplish for each day. Kind of works. It at least keeps my stress down if I know I have something important planned to do on a certain day, seeing that time is set aside to deal with it then. Either way though, weekly to-do lists are still never enough cuz my master to-do list is pages upon pages long. It's horrible! So yeah, always feel like a constant failure there. If I could kick current problems, esp. procrastination then I'm sure I could chip away at it more productively. So far hasn't happened though. *sigh*

thank you

Thank you :)  Its not so bad, especially when I have nothing urgent to do.  So I can afford to take a nap or sleep early.  I have had trouble with sleep for about 8 months now, its much worse when I'm under alot of stress during the semester.  There have been times when I would fall asleep in class right in the middle of writing notes.  It still happens once in awhile when on break through.  So I'll have to call the doc and get my ambien script filled.

e's grateful plan for Monday, May 24th, 2010

REally tired from this weekend, but pretty happy. Went to the sleep study and do have some sort of sleep problem, most likely apnea. Now I understand why I feel so tired so much of the time. Found a great new food plan, called the Good Mood Diet, which I am liking very very much. I am in a good mood, which often has been a struggle for me. Self care is up and so is my willingness, although I must say that right now I would like to go back to sleep.

this morning: bed made, breakfast made, meds taken, living room straightened.
read email from boss, lots to think about there. Will need to be at work at 1:30 today, so between now and then I would like to shower (half an hour) , swish and wash 10 minutes, do the remaining dishes (half an hour) dress fully (20 minutes). I also would like to prep for an hour for work. I have a phone check in at 11:30, which should take 15 minutes. Total time needed 2.5 hours. I have an extra half hour of additional time: I am going to take a nap before everything else. bbl.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal

((e))

I love your idea about scheduling naps and the things needed to really take care of yourself.  Have a great day at work and at home recharging :)

e's checkback

Alas, it was going well until I checked my email from my boss who said not to come in because she was ill. My half hour nap turned into 3 hours and I woke feeling angry with myself for the lack of progress I made with my time. I then ate something I had not planned on ( nothing like a 50 year old throwing a tantrum), so I am not doubly disappointed with myself. I needed the sleep and not all is lost, but I do like to get farther along than I did. Worse, I slept through my phone checkin time and I really don't like breaking promises: it hurts me and others when I don't show up when I say I am going to. Amends are definitely in order.

My younger son has a new mantra which is working for him: Discipline is the difference between what you want now and what you want later. So, I pray for the willingness to get back on my food plan, which is definitely making me feel healthier.

So, to get me up and keep me up I am going to do something counter intuitive for me: treat myself extra well by getting out and having a walk. I am going to put on music to pep me up and spend until 2:30 checking email before I do my next task.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal

Monday, Monday

I did pretty well yesterday as far as beating up on procrastination. I checked off everything on my list.

I might not have done that except for two items, which would have taken more than three hours total,

getting canceled by other participants. But, hey, a win is a win. I'll take it. I already keep a daily

in Outlook, as well as ina planner I developed myself and call Lifeguide, so doing it all again here is, in

one sense, making the problem of having too much to do even worse.  But I have faith in the power

of these daily check-ins, having recently with their help given up drinking alcohol and playing computer

games, two maladaptive behaviors that have been very costly for me. So, here's today's plan:

PREWORK

- read paper, eat good breakfast

- water tomato plant

- clean up kitchen before Health Department gets wind of it (literally)

- take pills

- post on quitting forums (Three of them. I know, I know.)

WORKDAY

- plan day

- write letter to editor

- go to physical therapy

- send query

- Do article interview

- Lunch w/son

AFTERNOON

- two more interviews

- read JH book

- email recording guy

- draft 10 tips list

EVENING

- take pills

- Cut grass or move furniture

- watch Breaking Bad w/ME

- go to bed before midnight

That's about all I can think of. I'd better get to it if I want to do as well as yesterday. I can't count on

more cancellations.

Journey 9 am

Happy Monday!  I am grateful for this fellowship.   I'm really happy to see the friendships blooming among the newer folks.  It's wonderful to meet people who understand!

I barely got to work on time because I spent 30 minutes deciding whether or not to go to the gym, but in the end I did go and had a short bike ride.  The foot feels fine.  I'm not up to running yet, or even a lot of walking, but I can swim and ride the bike now yay!  I spent a lot of time with my grandson Saturday and since we couldn't play as actively as he wanted we did some rock hunting and had a nice chat.  He's 3, almost 4, and it's amazing the stuff he thinks about now.   He can discuss abstract thoughts and memories that he couldn't handle even 3 months ago.  He's at that questioning stage.  These are just a few of the questions he asked me:

  • What does 'moist' mean?
  • What does it mean to do something 'on purpose'?
  • Where do rocks come from?
  • What's a gun battle?

He not only gives me a physical workout but now he gives me a mental workout too!

Well, anyway speaking of work, I guess I better get to it!  drinking coffee while I make my todo list for the day.

Have a great Monday and a great week!

Jo

Jo's brilliant grandson

Oh, this made me smile today.  What does it mean to do something on purpose?  Your grandson is a little philosopher/guru-in-training!

(My mom loves to remind me that when we were growing up, SHE was Google. It is good to know that kids still need answers to some questions that the internet can't answer.  Hehe!)

on Mom = Google

I'm going to giggle about that all morning!   Thanks, Kitty. Thanks, Jo, for sharing your brilliant grandson with us today!

what does it mean to do something on purpose

wow. profound indeed, for anyone, much less a three year old, Jo! Being on purpose is my goal at PA. Purposely doing things: not something a procrastinator like me has had much experience with. But as I go into recovery, it seems more and more feasible.

Glad to hear you are getting better and able to rock find with the best of them!

Agnus 9am check-in

Good morning!  After a wonderful weekend I am nursing a sunburn and looking forward to a productive week - hope you have one also! The following list is for today up through dinner; after that I'm thinking the home/family tasks might stretch over a few days based on reality (whatever THAT is!).

  • clear desk - if I find any action items I will schedule them, not impulsively do them the minute I see them (based on new realization that I get backed into a corner on MITs because I impulsively do the next thing without weighing its relative importance)
  • thank you notes
  • file expenses for dc trip, tech supt, vr mtng
  • send anncmt to all ap's on wf3 resources
  • planning: rm budget
  • fwd kt email to ap's
  • break1
  • process/post ppts when client sends
  • working agenda for dry run
  • read backlogged emails and schedule action items
  • review last Monday's list
  • review yellow notepad
  • lunch
  • primer text
  • break2
  • have the hard talk with 3f
  • request refund on vaca reserv
  • buy ofc supplies
  • 20 minute microburst on the bills pile
  • dinner
  • find out where to recycle telephone books
  • check for avails on new vaca plans
  • inventory paint supplies
  • commit to a beginner's sewing lesson
  • call J2 for help with bookcase assembly
  • call MIL and SIL (surg 6/16?)
  • decide what to do about new self-appointed bff
  • Schedule 20-minute meliorism-microbursts for these backlogged projects: rest of the bills pile - medicare pile - 2008 corp taxes

  • Agnus progress report 1pm

Got the thank-you notes DONE! YAY.  That was hanging heavy since 5/12; whew!  on to the desk cleaning, and I'm noticing the usual inflow of emails demanding my attention and it looks at first glance like some of them may take precedence over my listed tasks for today. God please help me stay flexible, responsive and responsible for my time today...um, sorry, YOUR time today. Thank you, Amen.

  • clear desk - if I find any action items I will schedule them, not impulsively do them the minute I see them (based on new realization that I get backed into a corner on MITs because I impulsively do the next thing without weighing its relative importance)DONE!

  • Yay Agnus!

Wow, you always are so positive about attacking the things ahead!  Thank you for reminding me that life is an adventure...learning, reaching out, making decisions, and risking sunburn by getting out there.  I'm now inspired to get moving for the day.  Have a great Monday.

    thanks Kitty

Sunburn should be considered only ONE option for living enthusiastically...there may be others that cause slightly less pain!  Have fun seeking yours today.;-)

    Vic 5/24

Show up (done) So grateful for this site, was on phone meeting but could not talk. Feeling very, very disconnected, shame, etc. Came so close to shutting down yesterday. It was like picking up a drink, (same ole excues, this is long enough, it will be ok, I can handle it, I will start tommorrow, I'm not that bad, so what, everyone does, who wouldn't etc. etc. and the big "tommorrow I will start and will feel like it") etc. and it was by the grace of God I didn't which of course means I felt/am feeling  all the emothional pain of what is happening. I wonder if Newton's first law applies to emotional pain.

But I am here, and not alone showed up, a miracle, keep praying for the next right action. Sorted stuff until midnight last nite . 1. spent am trying to pull up ebook that I istened to before need to stop now. 1. graditudes/meditation/prayer buddy email 2. dishes3. math lessons 4. walk 5. check in. Thanks for being here my cyber friends.

    Showing up ((Vic))

Vic, Big hugs to you today as you struggle.  So happy you took the biggest step and posted--awareness of time slipping away is the first step.  I hope you can forgive yourself and feel proud that you are here and aware of what is happening.

(I've come to believe that everyone procrastinates a little bit now and then, but the difference between them and compulsive procrastinators is that they can get back on track again by pushing through the regret that drives us back into more procrastination...anyway, that's what I'm thinking these days!)

We're all rooting for you :)
