The Positive/Inspiring Music Thread

I notice that I often get in a better mood and more productive when I play positive and/or inspiring & motivating music in the background. I have a couple of youtube playlists that I've created to assist me.

So I thought it would be a good idea for all of us to share our anti-procrastination musical finds here. Smile

  • if there's a full-length audio or video clip on the web, put the link here
  • if there isn't, at least list the artist and song name so we can find it and maybe buy a copy someday
  • if you have time, cut and paste the lyrics here
  • since we all like/hate different types of music Tongue out tell us it's "new age" or "rock" or "country" so we can sort through these easier

Rolling Stones : "Can't always get want you want"

I saw her today at a reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
And if you try sometime you find
You get what you need

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was her footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need

Oh yeah, hey hey hey, oh...

And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
Sing it to me now...

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
Oh baby, yeah, yeah!

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him

You can't always get what you want, no!
You can't always get what you want (tell ya baby)
You can't always get what you want (no)
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
Oh yes! Woo!

You get what you need--yeah, oh baby!
Oh yeah!

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

You can't always get what you want (no, no baby)
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need, ah yes...

Fred Small: "A Dream In the Light"

I can't send you to a YouTube or Playlist recording of this for the tune, but I love the song. I'd describe it as contemporary folk or light rock -- not unlike Harry Chapin, Jackson Browne, or Tom Paxton, if those are helpful references. This one has a nice, upbeat tempo.

A Dream In The Light

by Fred Small

Awake arise all you who slumber
Daylight is driving the stars from the sky
Every creature on earth one song is lifting
From the crab in the tide pool to the petrel in flight
The dew on the grass is a river of silver
The sun on the hills is a veil of gold
Every day is a lifetime of fresh beginnings
Twenty-four untouched hours poised to unfold

So lay down your disappointment and yearning
Everything will be all right
You can't stop this big world from turning
But a dream need not fade in the light

Along the highway neon jewels
Lure us away from our chosen course
Always and again one moment of decision
Do I love myself or my addiction more?
Do not mistake stark fear for failure
Nor the darkness for the night
Though we search for the end of the rainbow
All we seek stands within our sight

So lay down your disappointment and yearning
Everything will be all right
You can't stop this big world from turning
But a dream need not fade in the light

Who was it told you you didn't deserve love?
Who was it told you you were never good enough?
Voices of the dead just delay and defeat us
Turn your face to the light that is lifting you up

In our ears humanity's clamor
Some we name enemy some we call friend
In both we see our flawed reflection
Lonely and frightened we pose and pretend
May the walls of our hearts soften and open
To comfort the stranger in hunger and pain
Inside every story the seed of understanding
Every leaf is its own but the tree is the same

So lay down your disappointment and yearning
Everything will be all right
You can't stop this big world from turning
But a dream need not fade in the light

Shania Twain - "Up!"

Country/pop song. It comes in two versions. Very happy song. And she's nice to look at too! Kiss

"Green"(country) version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FMhUNSIxks

"Red" (pop) version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88cIzNmnZvI

It's 'bout as bad as it
could be
Seems everybody's buggin' me
Like nothing wants to go my
way--
yeah, it just ain't been my day
Nothin's comin' easily

Even my skin is acting weird
I wish
that I could grow a beard
Then I could cover up my spots
not play
connect the dots
I just wanna disappear

[Chorus:]
Up--up--up--
Can
only go up from here
Up--up--up--Up
where the clouds gonna clear
Up--up--up--
There's
no way but up from here

Even something as simple as
Forgettin'
to fill up on gas
There ain't no explanation why--
things like
that can make you cry
Just gotta learn to have a laugh

[Repeat Chorus]

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah...

When everything is goin'
wrong
Don't worry, it won't last for long
Yeah, it's all gonna
come around
Don't go let it get you down
You gotta keep on holding
on

It's 'bout as bad as it
could be
Seems everybody's buggin' me
Like nothing want to go my
way--
yeah, it just ain't been my day
Nothin's comin' easily

[Repeat Chorus]

Oh-- I'm going up [4x]
Oh
yeah, yeah, yeah...

Rob Thomas - "Someday"

It's a pop song from his 2009 CD "cradlesong". I swear one of us here could have written this song. The song "sounds" more positive than the lyrics indicate. Very inspiring to me - it gives me hope. Smile

You can go
You can start
all over again
You can try to find a way to make another day go by
You
can hide
Hold all your feelings inside
You can try to carry on
when all you wanna do is cry

And maybe someday we'll
figure all this out
Try to put an end to all our doubt
Try to find
a way to make things better now that
Maybe someday we'll live our
lives out loud
We'll be better off somehow, someday

Now we wait
And try to
find another mistake
If you throw it all away then maybe you can
change your mind
You can run
And when everything is over and done
You
can shine a little light on everything around you
Man it's good to
be someone

And maybe someday we'll
figure all this out
Try to put an end to all our doubt
Try to find
a way to make things better now that
Maybe someday we'll live our
lives out loud
We'll be better off somehow, someday

I don't wanna wait
I just
wanna know
I just wanna hear you tell me so
Give it to me
straight
Tell it to me slow

'Cuz maybe someday we'll
figure all this out
We'll put an end to all our doubt
Try to find a
way to just to feel better now
Maybe someday we'll live our lives
out loud
We'll be better off somehow, someday

'Cuz sometimes we don't
really notice
Just how good it can get
So maybe we should start
all over
Start all over, again

'Cuz sometimes we don't
really notice
Just how good it can get
So maybe we should start
all over
Start all over, again

This is just very calming New Age background music along with nature sounds. Great to use in your headphones while trying to concentrate and get in the zone. There are other related ones on this link too.

Welcome to my world

Hoping you can stay
You can change the place color

Doors are opened to ya
That's
all we can do yeah
Before than I knew ya
Rules are changing ooh
yeah

Wish I was the first
Was
the first to say
Welcome to this world
Get some love today
Welcome
to my world
It?s a better place
Welcome to the world
It?s your
birthday

Doors are opened to ya
That?s
all we can do yeah
Before than I knew ya
Play the games that suit
ya

Welcome to this world
It?s
a brand new day
Welcome to my world
It's a better place
Welcome
to the world
Hoping you can stay
You can change the place color
anyway

Doors are opened to ya
That's
all we can do yeah
Before than I knew ya
Rules are changing ooh
yeah

Welcome to the world
Welcome
to the world
Welcome to the world

Inspiring music

Inpsiring music:

 two I like are

Phil Ochs' song 'When I'm Gone' .".... ..... so I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here'

Here's a version on youtube that I find inspiring:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5KQvnkWfdQ.

And Willie Nelson's song 'One Day at a time'--lots of covers.

Yes, love the Phil Ochs song!

Thanks for that!
