Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action - Walter Anderson

Pyrotecher CI Sat 13Feb2010

Late Check-In 8:00 pm
Today's been a chore-oriented Saturday. Official time-off was lunch out with wife but plenty of little time-wasters between chores. My main goal is to finish weekend chores (shopping, laundry) tonight so as to have time free tomorrow. Gonna be a challenge to finish what I want tonight and get reasonable sleep.
.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. My wife says she does not expect big gestures. Just card (which I have but haven't signed yet!) and dinner (got reservations thanks to her thinking in advance!). The other thing I can give her is my presence - taking as much time from the busywork treadmill to give her actual attention - at least as much as she can stand to have me around Smiling.
.
I decided on Friday to get her flowers as well. I rightly realized that it would be more difficult to buy them on the weekend so actually bought them 2 days early (but true to my nature, I waited until a few minutes before the store closed to show up). She appreciated the flowers, but now I'm feeling a bit empty handed going into Valentine's Day itself armed with nothing new to give her that day but the card and the pre-reserved dinner. It almost seems like I'm so used to doing everything last minute that i(in my mind) things I do ahead of schedule "don't count." I'm not very good at knowing what the "romantic rules" in such matters, but from the procrastination perspective it's an interesting statement on my state of mind.

Followup CI 4:30 am Sunday 2/14
As I suspected, chores have gone long into the wee hours of the morning. Luckily we didn't have morning plans, but not a good way to go into the day. Oh well, going to get some shuteye and take it from there.

Lovely sentiment about "V" day. Something I just heard someone share really reminds me of your share. She said when she was growing up, her Mom went back to work so she could give her more "things." This little girl had the ability at that time to realize that she didn't want "things" she wanted her Mom to be with her and was able to tell her that. You're not empty handed, because you have you!!!!

Hope you had a great day!!

Thanks, Hope!

Hope4meandu:

Thank you - what a nice thought!

I'll take people over "things" any day!

Hi all!

Today is my work day for the weekend, then I'm going to spend this evening and most of tomorrow relaxing and hanging out with a friend.

So far, I've worked on a couple of experiments. 10:45-11:30, I need to go to poster session w/ prospective students.

Other than that, here's what I need to get done:
*Finish IHC
*revise and email pset
*order EdU
*Email PB

If at all possible, I'd also like to redo genotyping and spend a little time organizing computational lab notebook.

OK, I have a little more expt. work to do before poster session...I'm going to order EdU, then do that expt work, then go to poster session, then come back and finish IHC/email PB, then revise and email pset and re-start genotyping.

It's not morning on this side of the planet, but if it is still is on yours then a happy good morning to you Smiling

I haven't been on for a while. Haven't really been keeping up with to-do lists and such, but I've been alright. Stopped taking my anti-anxiety pills and I've discovered that I can live without them after all. Also been working at improving my time management at work, and it's kind working, even if I still have a good way to go. I passed all my first semester's university exams (by some miracle, since I didn't study properly for any of them), and am starting my new semester today. I've also made the first post in ages on my online journal and will be getting back in touch with close online friends that I've neglected for far too long embarrassed I got a bonus at work, which I'm spending on a nice weekend with the family, and I'm going to be taking new language classes starting next week, which is something I've been wanting to do for a long, long time.

Of course, I still have a serious issue when getting things done on time, or at all, but I'm working on it. Right now I'm feeling semi-motivated, and am going to try to power through and get my life on track. I just need to keep pushing myself out of my negative daily routines.

At any rate, today I:
x Withdrew cash and paid back mom
x went to Las appointment
x FH: EB

When I get back from uni I want to:
- clean my side of the room
- finish work article
- post sjg ch 83 and 84
- BH: AP
