CL daily overcoming

i am grateful today that when i started to balk at a task, that my higher self recognized that and came here to work on it over loud objections from my lower self.

mind you, i dont know the solution, i just "remember" this is where i used to come to get such problems solved in the past. Ie i'm here on faith.

no schedule at this point. just focusing on the blockage on this one particular task.

thank you god that there's a place like this!

OCz 06JAN2010

Hello everyone!

I got work really late today after having a rough nigth with mi child on high fever... this has led me to a very slow start.

At least I managed to open my agenda today and fill in appointments for today. That's a good start, late, but good.

Started to look back at all my pending tasks from before going on vacations... OMG, it is so much, but I wont' let it get to me and become anxious about it. I will tackle one at a time!

kromer 9:40 CI

In late again today...trying to not beat myself up about it and remember that to be successful in recovery I need to focus on changing one thing at a time, but still really frustrated with myself, how hard is it to be in by nine?

OK, after a very active day yesterday, today is a day to regroup, organize and finish things up. Since I'm feeling slow, I'll try to break things down into little steps: that makes my list look long, but I think it's actually pretty reasonable

Scheduled: seminar 10-11, small paying job 6-7

High priority:
*Mail gifts
*Harambee planning (will do after I get home)
*Call AG (left a message: will talk if he calls back)
*On big scary microscope, figure out how to
1)Take a blue fluorescent image (doesn't have to look perfect, I'll work on details of imaging later)
2)Measure intensity at a particular point
*Take care of mice and cells
*Read for about an hour about good ways to organize computational experiments, microburst coming up with a workable system, microburst organizing VAD experiment in accordance with this system.

Medium prioirty:
*Clean slides w/ windex
*Proofread half of existing WM doc (will maybe do after I get home, but I don't have to)
*On big scary microscope, figure out how to turn live cell imaging chamber on and off, and monitor conditions in the chamber (need to postpone this until tomorrow)

Lower priority
*Wedding present and card for Z and G (will maybe do after I get home, but I don't have to)
*On big scary microscope, figure out how to  take a brightfield image (fooled around with this a little, with the help of a postdoc, but couldn't get it to work. this isn't essential, but I might ask around the lab tomorrow)
*Finish reading article on meiotic and mitotic cohesins
*condolence note

OK, I'm going to head to the seminar now. After seminar, I'll read about how to organize a computational experiment, and take care of mice and cells. Then I'll have lunch, mail gifts and work on learning microscopy.

kromer 9 CI

OK, have had a decently productive day. However, there's still a bit more to get done before bed, and I don't wanna do it! I also really want to talk to AG, but can't control when he calls me back, and I know it would be annoying to just keep calling until he picks up (though I considered it :P )

So, I'll take some prayer/Bible reading time to center myself (about 20 min). Then, I'll do the Harambee planning...this is important (and actually very late, but late is much better than never!)--should take about 40 min, I think, though I'm not really sure. Once I've finished that, I'll work on proofreading WM doc, while taking frequent breaks to do something I enjoy (maybe watch a movie in short increments :) ) If AG calls, we'll talk. If he doesn't, then we won't :)

OK, back after prayer time.

Yeah, I'm with George today.   The New Year's inspiration has worn off lol and I woke up feeling like this:

Journey P.S.

That's just a joke, btw, in reality I find that on days like this I need to be extra gentle to myself not extra mean!  I get more done if I'm good to myself than if I mentally berate myself!

Hi Jo

I really needed to hear that you are extra gentle when you're not "inspired." Usually I am extra mean to myself, but this helps me turn that around. THANKS!

@hope

Yep, I think that's the biggest lesson I've learned here.   People like "us" have a hard time learning to be good to ourselves and enjoy our successes again.  Beating yourself up is not only wasted time but tends to send you in to a downward spiral of procrastination, beating yourself up, and procrastinating again.   You gotta let it go . . .

hope4meandu check-in 8:30AM

Called in sick, I know I might get in big trouble, hope not, but I'm happy to be home.

I'm borrowing (if I may) from Agnus, I believe, when I clean I will do 20 minutes of something and stop, rather than saying what I will do, dreading it and putting it off the whole day. I'll see if that helps.

To do:
-resumes
-website
-all p.t. cancel today and pay UGH
-check if gift card is working
-call Aunt
-find a R for Aunt
-call Jake

Cleaning:
-laundry
-Yoffee bath
-clean bathroom
-order food?
-kitchen floors
-kitchen cabinets

Procrastinating:
-gather mine & Yoffee insurance claims
-find new credit card

"Preventive sick day"

I'd bet that many of us have taken a "sick" day from work when we needed time for ourselves - to get needed rest/stress relief or to take care of some part of our lives.

In many work places, a "sick day" is the only way to take unscheduled time off. . . and it can be better to use that time preventively than to wait until stress gets us ill or leads to a nervous breakdown!

This is a good place to be able to post about that without fear of being judged.

Unless, of course, one's boss is reading this site!  Surprised  (Though come to think of it, then the boss would likely be a fellow procrastinator!)

Falcon

Very well put, Falcon!

Very well put, Falcon!

Thanks S, Falcon & Lucky - ((BIG HUGS))
